      Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) touched 90 mph on the gun during a two-inning simulated game in California on Friday.

      Max Scherzer will make a rehab start for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

      Advice: It will be interesting to see how quickly the Rangers let Scherzer return from the minors. The 39-year-old has made a total of six minor league rehab starts during his 16-year career and never more than two during one IL stay. One would think a typical pitcher would get three or four in his situation (he missed the entire spring after back surgery and then made rehab start in April before injuring his thumb).       Scherzer (back/arm) will resume a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

      Advice: Scherzer had to be pulled off his initial rehab assignment in early May following a nerve problem with his throwing arm, but he's been trending in the right direction in recent weeks after receiving a cortisone injection. The 39-year-old was initially placed on the injured list due to his recovery from offseason back surgery. Scherzer threw 40 pitches in a live batting practice session earlier this week, so he should be ready for at least that many pitches Sunday.       Freeman went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 11-7 win over Pittsburgh.

      Advice: Freeman helped Los Angeles' offense get off to a fast start with his three-run blast in the first inning. The long ball extended his modest hitting streak to five games, during which he has slashed .389/.455/.889 with two homers, five RBI, five runs and two steals.       Marte went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Thursday's 4-3 win over San Diego.

      Advice: Marte delivered the go-ahead run in the seventh inning when his two-out single plated Corbin Carroll. Marte has rebounded nicely from an 0-for-22 skid in late May, going 11-for-28 (.393) with two home runs, two doubles, six RBI and five runs scored over the last eight contests. The Diamondbacks' offense could get a boost if the struggling Carroll can build off his three-hit performance Thursday, which would give Marte more run-producing opportunities.       Stroman allowed five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Minnesota on Thursday.

      Advice: Stroman was handed a 7-2 lead through four innings but couldn't go deep enough to qualify for the victory. He allowed two doubles and a walk while also hitting a batter in the fifth frame, retiring only two batters before he was pulled. This was a big letdown for Stroman after he notched four consecutive quality starts while posting a 1.01 ERA over his previous 26.2 innings coming into Thursday.       Advice: Abrams broke a scoreless tie in the sixth frame with his leadoff homer against Atlanta starter Reynaldo Lopez. The shortstop came into the contest having gone 1-for-21 over his previous seven games and recently missed time due to a shoulder issue, so the long ball was a much-needed positive development.       Advice: Doyle's only involvement Wednesday was as a pinch runner, and he was caught stealing. He checked back into the lineup and swiped two bags Thursday, giving him 16 thefts on 19 attempts this season with his first successful steals since May 26. The outfielder continues to put together a decent season with a .265/.339/.408 slash line, five home runs, 16 RBI, 37 runs scored, 11 doubles and two triples over 239 plate appearances.     • Stroman allows five in no-decision Thursday
      Marcus Stroman allowed five runs in 4 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Yankees’ 8-5 victory over the Twins on Thursday.

      Advice: Stroman gave up six hits, walked two and struck out two. He didn’t qualify for the win because he was unable to complete five innings. Stroman’s ERA is 3.16 on the season, but his xFIP is significantly higher at 4.48. He’s never been a big strikeout pitcher and has benefitted from an 82 percent left on base percentage this year.
