      Hicks allowed four hits and four walks while striking out four batters over five scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Monday.

      Advice: Hicks recently battled an illness but was able to take his regular turn in the rotation Monday. He threw only 48 of 87 pitches for strikes and tied a season high in issuing four free passes, but he was able to work around constant traffic on the basepaths to finish with five scoreless frames. It was the first time Hicks has held an opponent scoreless since his season debut against San Diego on March 30, though he's been quite reliable in yielding three or fewer earned runs in all but one of his 15 outings.       Advice: Happ’s home run was his eighth of the season. The three-run blast gave the Cubs a 6-3 lead in the seventh inning. It was Happ’s second home run in his last three games and third consecutive game with at least two hits. Happ’s wRC+ on the season is up to 115, which is the same as his career wRC+.     • Hicks throws five shutout innings against Cubs
      Jordan Hicks threw five shutout innings and got a no-decision against the Cubs on Monday.



      Advice: Hicks gave up four hits, walked four and struck out four. It was a solid start for Hicks, who lowered his ERA to 2.82 on the season with the effort. The converted reliever hasn’t completed six innings in a start since April, but he continues to pitch well while he’s out there. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face his former team the Cardinals on the road this weekend.

      Kikuchi (4-6) allowed five runs on seven hits over four innings Monday, striking out seven and taking a loss against Boston.

      Advice: Kikuchi was cursed by the long ball Monday, coughing up four solo shots in the first three innings. Tyler O'Neill accounted for two of them, including in the first inning when he went back-to-back with Rafael Devers. Kikuchi had allowed just four home runs over his previous six starts entering Monday and had not given up multiple long balls in any start this season.       Yusei Kikuchi allowed five runs in four innings and took the loss against the Red Sox on Monday.



      Advice: Kikuchi gave up seven hits, walked none and struck out seven. He had won his last two starts. Kikuchi was hit hard in this one as he allowed four home runs to the Red Sox. He’s now allowed 11 home runs on the season (1.22 HR/9). It was the second time in four June starts that Kikuchi allowed five runs. The 33-year-old left-hander is set to face the Guardians on the road this weekend.

      Hudson earned a hold against Kansas City on Sunday, striking out two batters in a perfect eighth inning.

      Advice: Tyler Glasnow gave Los Angeles seven shutout frames, and manager Dave Roberts then turned to Hudson to protect a three-run lead. The veteran reliever did so without any trouble, retiring all three batters he faced on 10 pitches. Hudson has been excellent for the Dodgers this season, posting a 1.93 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 31:3 K:BB over 28 innings while recording 10 holds, three saves and three wins.       Hicks (illness) will start Monday's game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.

      Advice: Giants manager Bob Melvin acknowledged after Hicks' most recent outing in Tuesday's loss to the Astros that the right-hander had been sick for several days leading up to the start. The illness might have played a factor in Hicks' lackluster numbers versus Houston (three runs allowed on five hits and one walk over 4.2 innings), but it won't cause him to miss his next turn through the rotation. With the ailment further in the rear-view mirror while he takes the hill Monday on five days' rest, Hicks will look to recapture the strong form he displayed earlier in the season.
