• Does alright in no-decision
Cecconi allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk and struck out three batters over 4.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Thursday.

Advice: Cecconi was again fine but not great in his second start since being recalled from Triple-A Reno to take Zac Gallen's (hamstring) place in the rotation. Cecconi has allowed four runs over nine innings across those two starts, and he's at a 5.66 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB through 41.1 innings over eight appearances (seven starts) this year. Gallen resumed throwing earlier in the week, but he's not eligible to return until next Friday, so Cecconi should be in line for a home start versus the Angels next week. • Struggles against Red Sox
Woodford (0-2) allowed seven runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings to take the loss Thursday versus the Red Sox.

Advice: Woodford has failed to pitch past the fifth inning in both of his starts for the White Sox so far. The Red Sox jumped on him right away Thursday, with Jarren Duran leading off the game with a solo home run. Enmanuel Valdez added a three-run shot in the fourth inning. Woodford doesn't have a great track record as a starter in the majors, but he's likely to remain in the rotation for another turn, as Mike Clevinger (elbow) will require a rehab start before returning. Woodford is lined up for a road start in Seattle next week if the White Sox give him another outing. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:30 pm

  • Grabs fifth win
Quantrill (5-4) allowed three hits and four walks while striking out one over five scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday over the Cardinals.

Advice: Quantrill was fortunate not to give up any runs after a less-than-sharp outing. He's walked multiple batters in five of his last six starts and nine of his 13 outings overall, including three starts with four or more walks. The right-hander is now at a 3.58 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP and 51:29 K:BB over 73 innings this season. Quantrill is projected to make his next start on the road in Minnesota. • Quantrill throws five shutout innings in win
Cal Quantrill threw five shutout innings and got the win in the Rockies’ 3-2 victory over the Cardinals on Thursday.

Advice: Quantrill gave up three hits, walked four and struck out one. The win was his fifth in 13 starts this year. Quantrill’s ERA is down to 3.58, but he doesn’t miss many bats as his 16 percent strikeout percentage is in the bottom 15 among qualified starters. His 4.42 xFIP is more indicative of the pitcher he’s been this season. The 29-year-old right-hander is set to face the Twins on the road next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:52 pm
  • Jake Woodford hit hard in loss to Red Sox
Jake Woodford was obliterated for seven runs over four innings on Thursday in a loss to the Red Sox.

Advice: The Red Sox had no trouble solving Woodford in this one as he surrender a whopping 10 hits, including a leadoff blast to Jarren Duran and a three-run homer to Enmanuel Valdez. He struck out three and also issued three walks. The White Sox don’t have a ton of alternatives to plug into their starting rotation at the moment, but it’s difficult to imagine Woodford getting another turn here. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:52 pm

  • Parker goes seven innings in no-decison Thursday
Mitchell Parker allowed two runs in seven innings and got a no-decision against the Braves on Thursday.

Advice: Parker gave up three hits, walked none and struck out two. He had a 2-0 lead in the seventh inning, but Adam Duvall got him for a game-tying two-run home run. Parker’s ERA is 3.47 in 10 starts this year, though he’s won just one of his last eight starts. The 24-year-old left-hander is set to face the Tigers on the road next week.

  • Schumaker: Max Meyer returning to majors ‘soon’
Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said this week in an interview with Fish on First that he expects Max Meyer to return to the majors soon.

Advice: Schumaker added that Meyer’s recent starts for Triple-A Jacksonville have been “outstanding” and added that he’ll be back up soon. The 25-year-old top prospect opened the year in Miami’s starting rotation due to injuries, delivering a phenomenal three-start run in early April before being demoted to the minors in an effort to manage his workload. He struck out seven batters and allowed three runs over four innings last Friday in his most recent outing for Triple-A Jacksonville and it’s not unthinkable that he could be back in the majors at some point in the coming days, especially now that Edward Cabrera (shoulder) is back on the injured list. • D-backs put Blake Walston (elbow) on 15-day IL
Diamondbacks placed LHP Blake Walston on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation.

Advice: Walston ascended to the majors earlier this year and has pitched well for Arizona with a 2.84 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 11/9 K/BB ratio across 12 2/3 innings (three appearances, two starts). No word yet on how long the 22-year-old lefty will be sidelined, but he figures to miss at least a couple weeks, even in a best-case scenario. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:00 pm
  • Heads to 15-day IL
Walston was placed on the 15-day injured list due to left elbow inflammation, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Advice: Walston was called up to make his first MLB start May 27 and made an additional start Tuesday. He was not part of the decision in either start, but he gave up just two eared runs in 9.0 innings. However, he will be unable to make a third start soon with the apparent injury that came of Tuesday's game. The Diamondbacks selected Humberto Castellanos from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move.
