• Takes modest step toward return
Lowe (oblique) has started swinging and taking ground balls, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Lowe landed on the injured list April 12 but doesn't appear all that close to a return. On Tuesday, manager Kevin Cash described Lowe's progress as "nothing huge yet." Curtis Mead and Amed Rosario will likely continue to form a platoon at second base in Lowe's absence. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:21 pm

  • Smacks second homer
Caballero went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Monday against the Tigers.

Advice: Caballero has made his mark with seven stolen bases across his first 22 games this season. However, he swatted his second homer of the campaign against Shelby Miller in the eighth inning, and he now has an extra-base hit in each of his last three games. Caballero has a clear path to playing time for the foreseeable future, as Taylor Walls (hip) has been shut down from baseball activities and is ineligible to return from the injured list until late May. • Swipes two bags Monday
Mateo went 0-for-3 with a walk, a run and two stolen bases in Monday's 4-2 win against the Angels.

Advice: Mateo made his second start in three games and used his legs to help the Orioles score their second run, following a third-inning walk with a pair of thefts before coming home on an Adley Rutschman single. The performance was indicative of what Mateo brings to Baltimore -- he's an elite base stealer when he's able to reach, but with a career .224 batting average and .271 OBP, that doesn't happen enough to keep him in the lineup consistently. From a fantasy perspective, Mateo is most useful as a base-stealing specialist in leagues that allow daily lineup changes. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:07 pm

  • Struggling of late
McMahon went 0-for-3 with an RBI on Monday against the Padres.

Advice: McMahon recorded four hits April 12, but he has only five hits across 38 plate appearances since. He's also struck out at 39.5 percent clip in that span while tallying two RBI and two runs scored. Even with that stretch, McMahon has a .314 average across 100 plate appearances. • Jose Caballero scores lone run in loss to Tigers
Jose Caballero went 1-for-4 with a home run in Monday’s loss against the Tigers.

Advice: Caballero got off to a hot start this season with a .353 AVG in his first 10 games. He’s since cooled down, but is still slashing .284/.297/.459 on the season. He was the only offense that Tampa Bay had on Monday when he hit a solo shot in the eighth inning. From a fantasy perspective, the 27-year-old shortstop has been a plus in the stolen base department with seven of them so far this season. But for the Rays, he’s been a huge asset given the situation surrounding Wander Franco and could be a sneaky shortstop option for fantasy managers this season if he keeps up this type of production. • Nolan Gorman drills walk-off homer to sink D-backs
Nolan Gorman slugged a game-winning two-run homer on Monday, leading the Cardinals to a 5-3 walk-off victory over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Gorman came off the bench to wallop a 425-foot walk-off shot to right field off Diamondbacks lefty reliever Kyle Nelson. It wss his fourth round-tripper of the season and first time taking a southpaw deep in the opening month of the year. The 23-year-old slugging second baseman has gotten off to an excruatingly-slow start this season, batting .179 (14-for-78) with six runs scored, four homers and 10 RBI through 21 contests. It feels like only a matter of time before he gets going, but he’s struck out a staggering 32 times already in just 84 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:38 pm

  • Issued release
Peterson was released by the Diamondbacks on Monday, per MLB's transaction log.

Advice: Peterson was designated for assignment Friday, and he'll hit the open market after failing to draw interest elsewhere. He went 1-for-22 with one RBI and two runs over 14 appearances prior to being released. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:32 pm

  • Diamondbacks release INF Jace Peterson
    Diamondbacks released INF Jace Peterson.

Advice: Peterson was designated for assignment by Arizona on Friday, and rather than report back to Triple-A after going unclaimed, the infielder is now on the free agent market. The 33-year-old scuffled with a .045 average in 22 at-bats, but his versatility should see him get a look with another team; likely on a minor-league deal. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:30 pm

  • Belts fifth homer
Julien went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and two RBI in Monday's win over the White Sox.

Advice: Julien doubled in a run during the fourth inning before capping off the 7-0 victory with a solo shot in the seventh. He was stuck in a 3-for-24 skid over his previous seven games since his last long ball April 13. Julien continues to flash his power potential with five home runs and eight extra-base hits through 81 plate appearances. However, his inconsistency has led to a .211/.300/.465 slash line.
