• Optioned to Iowa
The Cubs optioned Mastrobuoni to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Mastrobuoni was able to crack the Opening Day roster with Patrick Wisdom on the injured list before the season began. He appeared in just eight games and only reached base once on a walk across 13 plate appearances. In a corresponding move, Patrick Wisdom was activated from the 10-day injured list. • Back from IL
The Cubs activated Wisdom (back) from the 10-day injured list Thursday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Wisdom went to the injured list just before Opening Day and was able to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa on April 6. During the assignment, the 32-year-old appeared in nine games and went 11-for-27 with three home runs across 36 plate appearances. Miles Mastrobuoni was optioned to Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago

  • Cubs activate Patrick Wisdom for Friday return
Cubs activated INF Patrick Wisdom from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Wisdom rejoins Chicago’s crowded infield mix ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Marlins after missing the first three weeks of the season recovering from a back strain that he suffered during spring training. He figures to split time at the hot corner with Christopher Morel since Michael Busch has gotten off to such a strong start over at first base. Rotoworld 33 minutes ago

  • Cubs option Miles Mastrobuoni to Triple-A
Cubs optioned INF/OF Miles Mastrobuoni to Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Mastrobuoni has been shipped back to the minors with Patrick Wisdom returning from the injured list to take his spot on Chicago’s bench. The 28-year-old’s defensive versatility is a nice feature for the Cubs, but he’s gone 0-for-12 at the dish this season, and is a career .217 hitter in the majors. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago

  • Lourdes Gurriel Jr. getting night off on Thursday
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is not in the lineup for Thursday’s series opener against the Giants.

Advice: It appears to be a routine off day for Gurriel with Jake McCarthy getting the nod in left field to face Giants ace Logan Webb. The 30-year-old slugger is batting .263 (20-for-76) with five homers, 20 RBI and two steals across 84 plate appearances through 18 games. Rotoworld Today, 2:47 pm
  • Tyler O’Neill (concussion) targets Tuesday return
Tyler O’Neill (concussion) is hoping to return for next Tuesday’s series opener against the Guardians.

Advice: O’Neill confirmed Thursday to reporters that he’s been diagnosed with a concussion and has been dealing with some dizziness and lightheadedness. He added that he was feeling a bit better on Thursday a few days after a brutal on-field collision with teammate Rafael Devers. He’ll travel with the team this weekend, despite being on the 7-day concussion injured list, and is hoping to be ready to return when first eligible next week. There should be some clarity on his status at some point this weekend or early next week. Rotoworld Today, 2:25 pm

  • Hopes to return when eligible
O'Neill (concussion) will travel with the Red Sox to Pittsburgh this weekend and hopes to be activated when first eligible Tuesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: O'Neill confirmed that he has a concussion as a result of his collision with Rafael Devers on Monday, but he's feeling better and is aiming for a minimum absence. It's too soon to count on that, of course, given the uncertain nature of concussions. O'Neill is third in baseball with seven home runs this season. Rotowire.com Today, 2:03 pm

  • Adolis García swats fifth homer of year vs. Tigers
Adolis García went 2-for-5 while homering in a victory over the Tigers on Thursday.

Advice: García swatted a solo homer in the third inning of Kenta Maeda to give the Rangers a 5-4 lead. The 31-year-old has had no trouble depositing baseballs over the fence in 2024, as he’s up to five homers with the roundtripper and is now slugging .568 over 74 at-bats. Those betting on regression from García have been sorely mistaken over the first month of the year. Rotoworld Today, 1:21 pm

  • Jarren Duran triples, steals base against CLE
Jarren Duran went 1-for-2 with a two-run triple and a stolen base against the Guardians on Thursday.

Advice: Duran showed off his speed in a couple different ways Thursday. The 27-year-old plated two with his first triple of the season, and the steal already gives the outfielder seven on the young campaign. Duran has gone through some lulls in his short MLB career, but the highs have been awfully exciting. It’s certainly possible 2024 is the year he puts it all together. Rotoworld Today, 1:20 pm
