• Riley Greene hits 11th homer in win over Rangers
Riley Greene went 1-for-4 with a home run in Tuesday’s win over the Rangers.

Advice: Greene smacked his 11th homer of the season off of Dane Dunning in the fifth inning to push the Tigers’ lead to 3-0. Greene has hit safely in six straight games and has two homers over that span. He continues to be a productive hitter at the top of the Tigers’ lineup and is fifth on the team with 24 RBI. • Masataka Yoshida starting rehab assignment this weekend
Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed Tuesday that Masataka Yoshida (thumb) is expected to start a minor league rehab assignment this weekend.

Advice: Yoshida has been on the shelf since the start of May due to a left thumb strain, but managed to avoid surgery. The 30-year-old is going to need some time to get back up to speed in the minors before returning to Boston’s lineup mix at designated hitter. Rotoworld Tuesday, 1:36 pm

  • Getting rest Monday
Vierling is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers.

Advice: Vierling will get a breather for the series opener, despite being one of the hottest hitters in the Detroit lineup at the moment. While starting each of the last seven games, Vierling recorded at least one hit and produced a .438/.455/.906 slash line overall. The 27-year-old should have a hold on a near-everyday role while he's sizzling at the plate, but his absence from the lineup Monday will open up a spot in the outfield for Akil Baddoo. • Yoshida (thumb) could start rehab assignment soon
Masataka Yoshida (thumb) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment near the end of this week.

Advice: Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora told reporters on Sunday that Yoshida has seen considerable improvement and will “hopefully” be ready to begin a minor league rehab assignment before the end of the week. The 30-year-old has been sidelined since the beginning of May due to a strained left thumb. Before landing on the injured list he was hitting .275/.348/.388 with just two homers, 11 RBI and zero stolen bases in 89 plate appearances. Rotoworld Monday, 8:14 am

  • Possible rehab assignment this week
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Sunday that he's hopeful Yoshida (thumb) could begin a minor-league rehab assignment later this week, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: Cora's comments came one day after Yoshida took live batting practice on the field and reported no issues with his strained left thumb, which has kept him out of action since April 28. Though the skipper didn't offer up a firm timeline for when Yoshida might be activated from the 10-day injured list, the 30-year-old may only need a handful of games in the minors this weekend before he's deemed ready to rejoin the Red Sox. Once activated, Yoshida should settle in as Boston's primary designated hitter, though he's likely to sit frequently against left-handed pitching. Rotowire.com Monday, 6:52 am

  • Reaches twice in loss
Greene went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Red Sox.

Advice: That's consecutive two-hit games for Greene, who has his batting average up to .244. While that's a dip from the .288 figure he recorded last season, he's sitting with an identical .796 OPS so far thanks to an early power surge. Greene has blasted 10 home runs across 57 games after going deep only 11 times in 99 games last year. The 23-year-old seems primed to set a new career high in long balls in 2024, and it could happen soon if he stays locked in at the plate. Rotowire.com Sunday, 6:00 am

  • Matt Vierling doubles twice against Red Sox
Matt Vierling went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored against the Red Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Vierling led the game off with a double off Cooper Criswell and scored on a single by Riley Greene. Vierling added another double to start the sixth, but was left stranded on the bases. The 27-year-old outfielder is slashing a solid .292/.324/.509 with seven homers and 28 RBI across 182 plate appearances. Rotoworld Saturday, 3:40 pm

  • Takes batting practice Saturday
Yoshida (thumb) took live batting practice in Boston on Saturday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Yoshida was able to take another step in his recovery from the strained left thumb that has sidelined him since May 1. The outfielder said Saturday that he is "over the injury and it's a matter of building up," according to Abraham. Yoshida will likely need to embark on a multi-start rehab assignment prior to being activated from the injured list. Rotowire.com Saturday, 11:37 am

  • Masataka Yoshida (thumb) takes BP on Saturday
Masataka Yoshida (thumb) progressed to taking batting practice on Saturday at Fenway Park.

Advice: Yoshida progressed to taking on-field batting practice for the first time since landing on the injured list back in early May with a left thumb issue. The 30-year-old slugger should be ready for a minor league rehab assignment at some point in the coming weeks, if not sooner. Rotoworld Saturday, 10:58 am
