• Returning from two-game absence
Cruz (ankle) will start at shortstop and bat third in Sunday's game against the Rockies, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Cruz will check back into the lineup after a sore left ankle prevented him from playing in either of the first two games of the series. The fact that the Pirates are using him at shortstop Sunday rather than deploying him at designated hitter would seem to speak to confidence in Cruz's health heading into the team's upcoming six-game week. • Oneil Cruz (ankle) back in lineup Sunday vs. COL
Oneil Cruz (ankle) is back in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Rockies.

Advice: Cruz missed two games with his sore ankle, but he’s back in the lineup for the series finale against the Rockies. The 25-year-old will hit third and play shortstop against Dakota Hudson and the Colorado pitching staff. Rotoworld 50 minutes ago

  • Josh Smith (tightness) remains out Sunday vs. M’s
Josh Smith (tightness) remains out of the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Mariners.

Advice: Smith did appear as a pinch-hitter against the Mariners in the Rangers’ loss to Seattle on Saturday, but he’ll begin Sunday’s game on the bench with Ezequiel Duran getting the start at third base. Smith should still be considered day-to-day. Rotoworld 53 minutes ago

  • Battling illness
Walls isn't available for Sunday's game against Atlanta due to an illness, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: The switch-hitting Walls' bout with the illness might help explain why he's out of the lineup Sunday against a right-hander (Hurston Waldrep) for the second day in a row. Jose Caballero -- who had been battling an illness of his own lately -- was scheduled to start at shortstop Sunday in Walls' place, but he was scratched after experiencing left calf tightness leading up to opening pitch. Amed Rosario is now set to operate as the Rays' shortstop in the series finale in Atlanta. Rotowire.com Today, 10:12 am

  • Jose Caballero scratched due to calf tightness
Jose Caballero was scratched from Sunday’s lineup against Atlanta with calf tightness.

Advice: Caballero was out of the lineup for the last two days with illness, but the shortstop will miss a third straight game due to the calf injury. He is reportedly available off the bench, so consider him day-to-day. Amed Rosario gets the start at shortstop in his absence, as Taylor Walls is unavailable due to illness. • Sitting in second straight game
Walls is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: The switch-hitting Walls is sitting against a right-handed starting pitcher (Hurston Waldrep) for the second day in a row, perhaps hinting that he hasn't quite locked down an everyday role at shortstop since his return from the injured list June 7. Walls had started in six of the Rays' ensuing eight games following his reinstatement, but he went just 2-for-18 with three walks against 10 strikeouts during that stretch. Jose Caballero (calf) and Amed Rosario look to be Walls' main threats for playing time at shortstop. Rotowire.com Today, 9:35 am

  • Scratched with tight calf
Caballero was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta with left calf tightness, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: Amed Rosario was a late addition to the lineup as a replacement for Caballero and will hit ninth and start at shortstop. Caballero has served as the Rays' primary shortstop for most of the season, but he had moved into more of a utility infield role of late following Taylor Walls' return from the injured list June 7. • Monday return confirmed
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Turner (hamstring) will be reinstated from the 10-day injured list Monday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Turner has been on the shelf since May 4 with a left hamstring strain, but he'll rejoin the big club without requiring a minor-league rehab assignment beforehand after the Phillies came away from his recent workouts convinced enough that he's at or near full health. Once he's formally activated from the IL ahead of Monday's game against the Padres, Turner should settle back in as the Phillies' everyday shortstop, pushing Edmundo Sosa back into a utility role. Sosa performed well during Turner's extended absence, and Thomson recently floated the possibility of Sosa seeing some looks in the outfield once Turner is back in the fold. • Trea Turner (hamstring) to be activated Monday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters before Sunday’s game that Trea Turner (hamstring) will be activated off the injured list before Monday’s game against the Padres.

Advice: There was some talk that Turner could be back Sunday, but Philadelphia will get the 30-year-old one more day before he’s back in action. The star shortstop’s return is a big boost for both fantasy managers and the Phillies. The only question will be how much the speedy infielder will run after missing so much time with his hamstring injury. Rotoworld Today, 8:36 am
