    • Slated to throw this week
Musgrove (elbow) is expected to play catch Wednesday or Thursday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: This will be the first time Musgrove has thrown since he went on the injured list June 1 due to a bone spur in his right elbow. The right-hander acknowledged that his new slider may have contributed to the issue and indicated Saturday that he is considering how to alter either the grip or his wrist action on the pitch. Musgrove also shared that he is working to change the landing on his delivery in order to reduce the stress on his arm, saying, "I do think that that delivery, like the release point and like how it's coming out of my hand right now, now that it's aggravated, I've got to try to make some kind of adjustment to not re-aggravate it without having months of rest time and let it calm down. I gotta find a way to adjust." There's still a possibility that the veteran hurler could need surgery to remove the bone spur, but even if he avoids that scenario, he probably won't be ready to rejoin the Padres until late July. • Sim game on tap Tuesday
Snell (groin) is scheduled to throw a three-inning simulated game Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: On the injured list once again due to a left groin strain after previously missing just over a month earlier in the season with a left adductor strain, Snell looks to be tracking toward an abbreviated stint on the shelf. He completed a bullpen session in San Francisco on Saturday and will now advance to the next phase of his rehab by facing hitters. If all goes well Tuesday, Snell could avoid a rehab assignment and return to the San Francisco rotation as soon as this Saturday or Sunday in St. Louis. Rotowire.com Today, 11:10 am

    • Battling stiff back
Luzardo said that he pitched through a stiff back in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Nationals, Bally Sports Florida reports.

Advice: The southpaw got the hook after gutting out five innings and 77 pitches, but Luzardo clearly didn't have his best stuff, and his velocity was down about two miles per hour. The Marlins haven't provided any indication that he will miss his next turn in the rotation, which lines up to come Saturday against the Mariners. A determination on Luzardo's status for that contest may not be made official until later in the week. Rotowire.com Today, 9:42 am

    • Cleared to start Monday
Hicks (illness) will start Monday's game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Giants manager Bob Melvin acknowledged after Hicks' most recent outing in Tuesday's loss to the Astros that the right-hander had been sick for several days leading up to the start. The illness might have played a factor in Hicks' lackluster numbers versus Houston (three runs allowed on five hits and one walk over 4.2 innings), but it won't cause him to miss his next turn through the rotation. With the ailment further in the rear-view mirror while he takes the hill Monday on five days' rest, Hicks will look to recapture the strong form he displayed earlier in the season. Even though he's failed to meet the threshold for a quality start in each of his last eight appearances, Hicks heads into Monday's game with a 3.01 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. • Gives up run in non-save situation
Hader allowed one earned run on two hits and no walks while striking out two in the ninth inning Sunday against the Tigers.

Advice: Hader entered the game with the Astros up 4-0 and allowed consecutive hits with one out to surrender the earned run. He's given up at least one earned run in three of his last 10 appearances, though he has maintained 14:1 K:BB across 9.2 innings in that span. Though not primarily his fault, Hader has not tallied a save since June 3. Rotowire.com Today, 6:52 am

    • Jordan Montgomery fans seven in win over White Sox
Jordan Montgomery looked sharp in Sunday’s victory over the White Sox, allowing just an unearned run on four hits over his five frames.

Advice: Montgomery piled up seven strikeouts on the afternoon while issuing a pair of free passes. The lone tally against him came on an RBI groundout off the bat of Andrew Vaughn in the third inning — after a throwing error by Montgomery had allowed him to advance earlier in the inning. The 31-year-old southpaw got a whopping 18 swings and misses on 84 pitches in the game — 10 of those on his changeup alone — while posting a strong CSW of 36 percent. Now 5-4 on the season, he’ll carry a 6.00 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and a 39/21 K/BB ratio (57 innings) into a tough matchup against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Saturday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:16 pm
    • Fans seven in win
Montgomery (5-4) picked up the win Sunday against the White Sox, allowing one unearned run on four hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: Sunday's start was Montgomery's best as a Diamondback, as he tied his season high in strikeouts while yielding no earned runs for the first time this year. The lone run scored while Montgomery was on the mound came in the third inning, when Danny Mendick came around to score after reaching on a throwing error by Montgomery. Montgomery has had a rollercoaster 2024 season, surrendering three or fewer runs in seven of his 11 appearances but giving up six or more runs three times. Overall, the 31-year-old owns a 6.00 ERA with a 39:21 K:BB across 57.0 innings. He's on track to face the Phillies next weekend. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:43 pm
    • Luis Arraez with two more hits Sunday
Luis Arraez went 2-for-5 with a double on Sunday against the Mets.

Advice: Arraez was on point in this one. All five of his balls in play were hit at least 95 MPH and he continues to be an engine atop the Padres’ order. His batting average is up to .326 which is best in the National League among qualified players. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:14 pm

    • Fans two in defeat
Luzardo (3-6) took the loss Sunday against Washington, allowing two earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two in five innings pitched.

Advice: The two runs charged to Luzardo were both solo home runs -- a first-inning shot by Lane Thomas followed by a fifth-inning blast courtesy of Jacob Young. While he yielded only two earned runs, Luzardo allowed baserunners in all five innings and mustered just two strikeouts. The hard-throwing southpaw has seen a steep drop-off in his strikeout rate compared to last year, his numbers plummeting from 10.48 K/9 to 7.83 K/9 this season. Overall, Luzardo has compiled a disappointing 5.00 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP and a 58:22 K:BB across 66.2 innings. He will look to bounce back in his next start, currently scheduled for next weekend versus Seattle. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:48 pm
