• Sent to Iowa
The Cubs optioned Wesneski to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Wesneski was recalled to the majors Wednesday, but his big-league stint will come to an abrupt end with Jameson Taillon (back) returning from the injured list. The 26-year-old pitched four innings and earned the win Wednesday and could work his way back into the majors if he continues finding success at Triple-A. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

  • Cubs activate Jameson Taillon for Friday start
Cubs activated RHP Jameson Taillon from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Taillon will make his season debut on Friday against the Marlins following Thursday’s rainout at Wrigley Field. The 32-year-old right-hander missed the first three weeks of the season working his way back from a back strain that sent him to the injured list at the conclusion of spring training. There’s definitely some streaming appeal in his season debut considering Miami’s dreadful start to the year. Rotoworld 8 minutes ago

  • Better despite loss
Canning (0-3) took the loss Thursday against Tampa Bay, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.

Advice: While Canning was ultimately charged with his third loss of the year, it was a step in the right direction after he'd allowed four runs or more in each of his first three starts. It looked like it could be another short outing for Canning on Thursday after he allowed two runs in the first inning, but the right-hander would settle in and hold the Rays scoreless over his final 4.1 frames. Canning still sports an ugly 8.05 ERA with a 1.58 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB through 19 innings this season. He's currently slated to face the Orioles at home in his next start. Rotowire.com 9 minutes ago
  • Back from IL
The Cubs activated Wisdom (back) from the 10-day injured list Thursday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Wisdom went to the injured list just before Opening Day and was able to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa on April 6. During the assignment, the 32-year-old appeared in nine games and went 11-for-27 with three home runs across 36 plate appearances. Miles Mastrobuoni was optioned to Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 9 minutes ago

  • Cubs activate Patrick Wisdom for Friday return
Cubs activated INF Patrick Wisdom from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Wisdom rejoins Chicago’s crowded infield mix ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Marlins after missing the first three weeks of the season recovering from a back strain that he suffered during spring training. He figures to split time at the hot corner with Christopher Morel since Michael Busch has gotten off to such a strong start over at first base. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago

  • Aroldis Chapman receives two-game suspension
Aroldis Chapman has received a two-game suspension for on-field actions that led to his ejection from Monday’s game against the Mets.

Advice: Chapman, who has also received an undisclosed fine, has the ability to appeal the league-issued two-game suspension. The 36-year-old lefty reliever was tossed from the eighth inning of Monday’s showdown against the Mets after recording just one out and allowing three runs. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago
