• Looks good in rehab outing
Francis (forearm) struck out four batters and allowed only one hit over two scoreless innings Tuesday in a rehab appearance for Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: The right-hander was shut down in late April due to forearm tendinitis, but Francis' sharp rehab outing suggests he's just about ready to rejoin the big-league staff. Alek Manoah is coming off a strong start as the fifth starter, so Francis will likely be ticketed for long relief when he returns. After a couple rough outings in the rotation to begin the season, Francis has 2.84 ERA and 5:3 K:BB in 6.1 relief innings for the Blue Jays. Rotowire.com 56 minutes ago
  • Summoned to majors
The Mets recalled Hartwig from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Advice: Hartwig has yielded two runs over three innings covering two relief appearances with the Mets this season. He'll provide the bullpen with a fresh arm. Rotowire.com Today, 9:06 am
  • Loses 40-man roster spot
The Mets designated Ramirez for assignment Wednesday.

Advice: Ramirez has now been designated for assignment on three occasions this season, with the Mets making the move two of those times. He had thrown three scoreless innings in his most recent stint with the Mets but will nonetheless go through the waiver process again. Rotowire.com Today, 9:05 am
  • Takes first loss Tuesday
Kelly (2-1) took the extra-inning loss against the Astros on Tuesday, allowing an unearned run on one hit over one-third of an inning.

Advice: With closer Mason Miller having worked both the eighth and ninth innings, Kelly was tasked with preserving the 1-1 tie in the 10th inning. Jake Meyers immediately moved over inning-opening runner Trey Cabbage to third with a flyout before Kelly surrendered a walk-off single to Victor Caratini, putting a quick end to the right-hander's unsuccessful high-leverage scenario. Kelly has now allowed a total of four runs (three earned) in two of his last four outings, but he's otherwise been a fairly reliable option for manager Mark Kotsay with a 3.00 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a pair of holds in addition to his two wins. • Gets PRP injection for shoulder
Twins athletic trainer Nick Paparesta said Tuesday that Stewart didn't resume throwing this past weekend as anticipated and has since received a platelet-rich plasma injection for his right shoulder, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. "We have to get his arm strength where it needs to be," Paparesta said of Stewart. "We have to get his range of motion where it needs to be...But we hope to see him throwing here in the short term."

Advice: Paparesta admitted that he might have initially been overzealous with his prediction that Stewart would start throwing again last weekend, but the right-hander doesn't seem to have suffered any major setback in his recovery from tendinitis. Once the injection takes full effect within the next few days, Stewart could start playing catch before gradually advancing to throwing off a mound and facing hitters. When he returns from the 15-day injured list, Stewart will be a key part of the bridge to closer Jhoan Duran. Rotowire.com Today, 8:03 am

  • Decision coming on role
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Tuesday that the team would like to declare a set role for Liberatore in the coming days, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: Liberatore began the season in the bullpen and pitched well, collecting a 2.76 ERA and 10:8 K:BB over 16.1 innings. Two of his last three appearances have been starts as he fills in for the injured Steven Matz (back) and the results have been mixed. Matz looks to be several weeks away from a return, so the Cards could either commit to Liberatore filling that role or shifting him back to the bullpen where he's had success. • Brock Stewart receives injection for shoulder
Brock Stewart received a PRP injection to help deal with the tendinitis in his shoulder.

Advice: Stewart hasn’t resumed throwing since going on the IL on May 3, so it looks like he’ll be sidelined for at least another couple of weeks. Rotoworld Today, 7:51 am

  • Nearing live batting practice
Devenski (knee) is expected to face hitters in live batting practice in the near future, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Devenski has been throwing regular bullpen sessions and recovered well from each. He was placed on the injured list in late April and will likely be back before the close of May. Rotowire.com Today, 7:38 am

  • Pitches well in return
Fairbanks struck out two and didn't allow a baserunner across a scoreless inning Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Fairbanks was briefly sidelined due to a cut on his throwing hand, but he returned to pitch the ninth inning of a tied game Tuesday. He showed no ill effects from the injury and has turned in two scoreless outings since returning from a nerve issue in his arm. Rotowire.com Today, 7:26 am
