  • Pitches well before weather delay
    Lynn allowed one unearned run on two hits and struck out five without walking a batter over six innings versus the Orioles on Tuesday before the game was suspended due to inclement weather in the sixth inning.

    Advice: The game will be completed prior to Wednesday's regularly-scheduled contest, though Lynn's involvement is almost certainly done. This was arguably his best outing of the season, and it's impressive he did it against an offense as strong as Baltimore. Through 51.1 innings over 10 starts, Lynn has a 3.68 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 48:20 K:BB. The veteran right-hander's next start is projected to be on the road versus the Reds.   • Cristian Javier struggles in no-decision
    Cristian Javier was removed after giving up four runs and eight hits in four innings Tuesday against the Angels.

    Advice: Javier’s stuff was well off tonight; he averaged just 90.4 mph with his fastball, which was down 1.5 mph from his previous average this season. He wound up with just one strikeout and three walks. All things considered, he was lucky to give up just the four runs. Javier said afterwards that the decline in velocity was due to poor mechanics and not anything injury-related, so that’s probably good. He’ll face the Mariners next.   • Griffin Canning solid for five against Astros
    Griffin Canning allowed two runs in five innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Astros.

    Advice: The runs came on back-to-back homers from Kyle Tucker and Yordan Alvarez in the first inning. Canning was effective afterwards, though he ended the day with two strikeouts and three walks. His velocity has started to creep up a little after being down two mph from last year initially, but his 16% strikeout rate isn’t impressive at all. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:02 pm
     
  • Solid showing in loss
    Schmidt (5-2) took the loss Tuesday against Seattle, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out six.

    Advice: Although Schmidt's scoreless inning streak ended at 17.0 innings, he didn't allow more than three runs -- something he's yet to do this season. Dylan Moore inflicted all the damage on Schmidt, launching a two-run homer in the third inning. On the year, Schmidt boasts a 2.59 ERA with a 61:17 K:BB over 55.2 innings and owns his best strikeout rate since becoming a full-time big-leaguer in 2022.   • Walks four in no-decision
    Morton allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and four walks while striking out eight over five innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Tuesday.

    Advice: Morton's last two starts have been against the Cubs, and they've managed to give him some control issues -- he walked seven batters over eight innings in those games. Tuesday's road outing was better than his start last Wednesday in Atlanta, but it still doesn't inspire a ton of confidence. The veteran right-hander is now at a 3.35 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 52:21 K:BB over 51 innings through nine starts this season. Morton's next start is projected to be at home versus the Nationals.   • Javier Assad walks five, gets lifted in fifth
    Javier Assad yielded three runs — two earned — in 4 2/3 innings Tuesday against the Braves.

    Advice: This really should have been worse, considering that Assad gave up two homers and walked five batters. Still, his ERA remained intact at 1.70, and though he left with the Cubs down by a run, he avoided taking what would have been his first loss in 10 starts this year.   • Charlie Morton fans eight in no-decision
    Charlie Morton was uninvolved in the decision against the Cubs on Tuesday after allowing two runs — one earned — in five innings against the Cubs.

    Advice: Morton matched his season high with eight strikeouts. In the entire history of MLB, only Nolan Ryan (five times), Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens and Orlando Hernández have managed to strike out at least a batter an inning at age 40 or over (min. 130 innings).   • Takes step back Tuesday
    Assad allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and five walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus Atlanta on Tuesday.

    Advice: Assad gave up a two-run home run to Orlando Arcia in the second inning and a solo shot to Michael Harris in the fourth. The five walks were also a season high, and it was the fourth time this season Assad has issued three or more free passes. For the season, he's at a 1.70 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 46:20 K:BB through 53 innings across 10 starts. He's had little trouble with the long ball this year, so it's safe to assume he'll continue to find success in run prevention if he can keep the ball down.     Tuesday’s game between the Orioles and Cardinals was suspended due to rain with the score tied at 1-1 in the sixth inning.

    Advice: It’ll be picked back up at 11:15 a.m. CDT on Wednesday. Lance Lynn allowed only an unearned run over six innings before the game was delayed. He still could finish with the win if the Cardinals score in the bottom of the sixth and hold the lead from there. Otherwise, he’ll end up with his seventh no-decision in 10 starts this year.
