    • Alex Bregman hits three-run homer in Astros’ win
      Alex Bregman went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and two walks Friday as the Astros edged the Twins 13-12.

      Advice: Bregman’s seemingly meaningless homer made it a 13-5 game in the ninth before the Twins almost came all of the way back in the bottom of the inning.       Bobby Witt Jr. went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a loss to the Rockies on Friday.

      Advice: Witt Jr. has doubled 25 times in 2024, and he came around to score after his two-bagger Friday on a single by Salvador Perez. He came up just short in the All-Star voting, but barring something completely unforeseeable he’ll definitely be involved in the game with a slash of .321/.371/.559 over his 90 games.     • Nestor Cortes strikes out eight against Red Sox
      Nestor Cortes held the Red Sox to one run in six innings and struck out eight in the Yankees’ 3-1 victory Friday.

      Advice: Cortes gave up 410-, 397- and 386-foot flyballs, but Yankee Stadium managed to hold two of them, with only Romy Gonzalez leaving the yard.       Suwinski went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk Friday against the Mets.

      Advice: Suwinski has had a disappointing season, but he's shown signs of turning things around in a very limited recent sample. Friday's long ball was his eighth of the season, and he now has three extra-base hits across his last four games. This marks the seventh season Bregman has reached double-digit homers in his nine-year career. Despite the recent power outage, the Houston third baseman has still been hitting well over his last 25 games, batting .295 (31-for-105) with 18 runs scored and 11 RBI.       Masataka Yoshida went 1-for-4 with a dramatic two-run home run in a 5-3 win for the Red Sox over the Yankees on Friday.

      Advice: This was a great moment for Yoshida in what’s been a disastrous season. Down to his final strike, he took Clay Holmes deep to push this game to extra innings where the Red Sox would eventually win it. It was Yoshida’s first homer since April 20th as a thumb strain kept him out for about six weeks.       Nestor Cortes allowed just one run in six innings against the Red Sox on Friday. He struck out eight and walked one in a no-decision.

      Advice: Cortes carved the Red Sox up in this one. His fastball and sweeper each induced six swings-and-misses as those two pitches along with his cutter rendered the Sox’s bats powerless.
