      De La Cruz went 2-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Cardinals.

      Advice: De La Cruz hit an RBI double in the third inning and followed it up with his 40th steal of the season. He then tripled and scored in a six-run fifth frame for the Reds. After going eight games without a steal, the 22-year-old has now swiped a bag in three consecutive contests and continues to lead the league in the category. He did strike out three times to bring his league-leading season total to 110 but is still hitting a solid .255 with 14 home runs, 37 RBI and 55 runs scored over 355 plate appearances.     • Irvin allows one in six innings in win over Rays
      Jake Irvin allowed one run in six innings and got the win in the Nationals’ 8-1 victory over the Rays on Saturday.



      Advice: Irvin gave up one hit, walked three and struck out six. He allowed a solo home run to Brandon Lowe in the first inning, but was otherwise excellent. Irvin won four of his five starts in June and lowered his ERA to 3.03 on the year. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face the Mets at home next week.

    • Tobias Myers gets quality start, no-decision
      Tobias Myers went six innings while allowing three runs and not factoring into the decision Saturday against the Cubs.

      Advice: Myers dealt with quite a bit of traffic Saturday, as he allowed seven hits and also issued a pair of walks. He was able to work around that traffic for the most part, thanks largely to six strikeouts and a couple of double plays. The 25-year-old gave up a two-run homer to Michael Busch in the first, but it was (mostly) smooth sailing from that point on. Myers does see his ERA jump up to 3.26, but that’s still a very solid number for the right-handed hurler. He faces Colorado next, and it’s worth pointing out that start will take place in Denver.       Elly De La Cruz went 2-for-5 with a triple, double, a run scored, one RBI, and a steal in the Reds’ 9-4 win over the Cardinals on Saturday.

      Advice: De La Cruz brought a run in to score with a double in the third inning before stealing third base for his MLB-leading 40th steal of the season. He then tripled in the fifth and scored on a fielding error. The 22-year-old shortstop is slashing .255/.346/.474 with 14 homers, 55 runs scored, and 37 RBI across 355 plate appearances.       Manager Craig Counsell said Saturday that Brown (neck) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

      Advice: Brown was cleared to resume throwing last week, and Saturday will mark his first time working of a mound since landing on the injured list June 11 with a left neck strain.       Advice: Brown has resumed throwing just a couple weeks after landing on the shelf with a neck strain. The 24-year-old righty appeared to be putting it all together this season with a pristine 3.58 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 64/19 K/BB ratio across 55 1/3 innings (15 appearances, eight starts) before hitting the injured list.       Varsho is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.

      Advice: With the Yankees sending left-hander Nestor Cortes to the mound Saturday, Varsho will retreat to the bench. Varsho returned to the starting lineup Thursday after sitting the three games prior due to a back injury, and he's gone 0-for-8 with five strikeouts over his last two starts.       Doval (3-1) allowed a run on one hit and struck out one over over inning, blowing a save but earning the win Friday over the Dodgers.

      Advice: Doval allowed a triple to Andy Pages, who came home on a Jason Heyward sacrifice fly that tied the game at 3-3 in the ninth inning. The Giants then got a walk-off home run from Brett Wisely to make Doval the pitcher of record despite his poor outing. He's given up nine runs over nine innings in June, though a pair of four-run meltdowns account for much of that damage.       Advice: Knack was pulled at 76 pitches (49 strikes) after giving up a solo home run to Luis Matos and singles to Brett Wisely and Jorge Soler in the fifth inning. While Knack wouldn't have qualified for the win, it was still a positive showing despite it being tied for his shortest start of the season in the majors. The right-hander has maintained a 2.08 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 25:8 K:BB through 30.1 innings over six starts.
