    • Wyatt Langford plates two as Rangers top Royals
Wyatt Langford went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI on Friday evening as the Rangers triumphed over the Royals.

Advice: Langford got the Rangers on the board in the fourth inning with a game-tying RBI double off of Royals’ right-hander Brady Singer. He then tied the game again in the sixth inning with a run-scoring single. The 22-year-old phenom seems to be coming into his own a bit over the past few weeks and is now slashing .249/.309/.349 on the season to go with two long balls, 26 RBI and seven swipes. • Strikes out eight in win
Flaherty (5-4) earned the win against the White Sox on Friday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Flaherty threw four scoreless innings before surrendering a solo home run to Tommy Pham in the fifth. He then allowed a hit and a walk with two outs in the sixth before being pulled just shy of a quality start at 98 pitches. The home run was the first earned run Flaherty has allowed since May 23, and the pitch count was encouraging considering he was limited to 73 pitches in his last outing following a back injury. On the season, he owns a 2.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 108:13 K:BB over 83.1 innings and tentatively lines up to face the Phillies next week. Rotowire.com Today, 6:30 pm

    • Jack Flaherty strikes out eight in win on Friday
Jack Flaherty delivered an excellent performance in Friday night’s victory over the White Sox, racking up eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings of one-run baseball.

Advice: The right-hander scattered five hits on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. The lone tally against him came on a solo homer off the bat of Tommy Pham in the fifth inning. Aside from that though, he was in complete control. Flaherty got 14 swings and misses on 98 pitches in the ballgame — seven of those on his slider — while posting a strong CSW of 34 percent. Now 5-4 on the season, the increasingly popular trade candidate will carry a sublime 2.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 108/13 K/BB ratio (83 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s battle against the Phillies. • Returning to Arlington
Jung (wrist) was pulled from his rehab assignment Friday to be evaluated in Arlington before the Rangers decide whether or not to activate him this weekend, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Jung went 4-for-17 in four rehab games with Triple-A Round Rock and could be cleared to rejoin the Rangers' active roster this weekend. The third baseman hasn't played since fracturing his wrist on April 1 and was initially expected to receive roughly 30 at-bats in the minor leagues before being reinstated. Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran have been handling most of the third base work during Jung's absence. Rotowire.com Today, 2:33 pm

    • Max Scherzer not starting for Rangers on Saturday
Rangers’ manager Bruce Bochy announced Friday that Jon Gray will start on Saturday against the Royals.

Advice: There had been speculation that Max Scherzer would make his 2024 season debut on Saturday, but it’ll be Gray getting the ball instead. Bochy was quick to point out that Scherzer has not had any sort of setback and could still return to start Sunday’s series finale against the Royals. Stay tuned. Rotoworld Today, 2:33 pm

    • Return pushed back
Scherzer (back/thumb) won't start Saturday's game against the Royals, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Scherzer was initially reported to make his 2024 debut Saturday after spending early portions of the season recovering from offseason back surgery and dealing with thumb and forearm injuries more recently. Instead, Bruce Bochy will hand the ball to Jon Gray on Saturday, with starters for Sunday's series finale against Kansas City and Monday's series opener against Milwaukee to be determined. Scherzer and Dane Dunning figure to fill the two starting slots, though it's unclear in what order. Rotowire.com Today, 2:17 pm

    • David Fry absent from Guardians lineup on Friday
David Fry is not in the Guardians’ starting lineup for Friday night’s battle against the Blue Jays.

Advice: After lighting the world on fire for a couple of weeks at the plate, Fry has fallen on hard times since the calendar flipped to June — hitting just .208/.269/.292 with zero homers, three RBI and a 10/3 K/BB ratio over 52 plate appearances in his last 12 games. Austin Hedges will function as the Guardians’ catcher on Friday night and will bat ninth against Yariel Rodriguez and the Blue Jays. Rotoworld Today, 1:32 pm

    • Idle Friday
Fry is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Blue Jays.

Advice: After making three straight starts -- one at catcher, two at DH -- Fry will take a seat Friday. Steven Kwan will DH and lead off while Austin Hedges catches and bats ninth. After batting .383 with seven homers in May, Fry has cooled off significantly in June, batting .208 without a home run in 52 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 1:20 pm

    • Returns to lineup
Chisholm (hamstring) will start in center field and bat leadoff in Friday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Chisholm was a late scratch from Wednesday's lineup due to a tight right hamstring, but it will be just a one-game absence as he's feeling well enough to give it a go after Thursday's off day for the Marlins. He enters play Friday having slashed .394/.447/.636 over his last 10 games. Rotowire.com Today, 12:15 pm
