    • Provides lone run in loss
Duran went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Fresh off an MVP performance at the All-Star Game, Duran got off to a hot start in the second half. His fifth-inning homer was the Red Sox's lone run of the contest and his first long-ball in regular play since July 2. The outfielder is up to a .286/.344/.488 slash line with 11 homers, 42 RBI, 63 runs scored, 22 stolen bases, 11 doubles and a major-league-leading 10 triples through 96 games. • Quality start in loss
Castillo (8-10) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three over seven innings, taking the loss Friday versus the Astros.

Advice: All of the scoring came in the third inning, where Castillo allowed five straight batters (three hits, one walk, one hit-by-pitch) to reach base. While he was decent and efficient, needing just 90 pitches (58 strikes) to get through seven frames, the Mariners' offense once again came up cold. Castillo has logged three straight quality starts in July and now sits at a 3.55 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 119:35 K:BB through 124.1 innings over 21 starts this season. He's projected for a favorable home start versus the Angels in his next outing. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:32 pm
    • Juan Soto goes 4-for-4, scores three times in win
Juan Soto went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and three runs scored as the Yankees topped the Rays 6-1 on Friday.

Advice: The first double turned into a Little League homer after an error and some laziness from Randy Arozarena and a second error from José Caballero, who hit Soto with his relay to third. Soto has 12 hits in his last six games, putting him back up to .303/.433/.569 for the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:20 pm
    • Gerrit Cole strikes out eight in victory over Rays
Gerrit Cole turned in six innings of one-run ball and struck out eight in defeating the Rays on Friday.

Advice: It’s a match for his last start against the Orioles. Cole gave up just three hard-hit balls tonight, and the one homer he allowed would have been out of only 12 of the 30 ballparks, according to Statcast. He’s now 3-1 with a 4.60 ERA, and things are definitely looking up a few weeks ago. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:20 pm
    • Jarren Duran hits solo homer against Dodgers
Jarren Duran swatted a solo homer in a loss to the Dodgers on Friday.

Advice: Fresh off winning the All-Star game MVP, Duran gave Boston a 1-0 lead with a solo homer off Gavin Stone. It looked like that would be the game-winner, but the Boston bullpen wasn’t able to hold the lead while allowing a grand slam to Freddie Freeman. Duran also doubled to see his slash improve to 286/.344/.488 with 11 homers and 42 RBI. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:50 pm
    • Luis Castillo holds Astros to three, still gets loss
Luis Castillo struck out three over seven innings of three-run baseball in a loss to the Astros on Friday.

Advice: All three runs allowed by Castillo came in the the third inning. That’s three more runs than Seattle scored, so it’s the 10th loss of the season for the 31-year-old. He didn’t have his best swing-and-miss stuff with only six whiffs against the Astros, but he pitched well enough to win. His team just didn’t hit nearly enough for that to matter. Castillo takes a 3.55 ERA into a start next week against the Angels. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:30 pm
    • Knocks four base hits
Soto went 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and a walk in Friday's victory over the Rays.

Advice: The Yankees superstar was the offensive catalyst in the team's 6-1 win over Tampa Bay, reaching base in all five of his plate appearances. With this performance, Soto collected his second four-hit game in New York; the other happened against the White Sox on May 18. The free-agent-to-be is now slashing .303/.433/.569 with 23 homers, 78 runs scored and 66 RBI across 432 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:36 pm
    • Secures third win
Cole (3-1) earned the win Friday against Tampa Bay, allowing one run on six hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: The New York ace was in fine form, generating an impressive 16 whiffs en route to his eight punchouts, his third straight game with at least seven Ks. The lone blemish on his evening was 384-foot solo shot allowed to Brandon Lowe in the sixth. With this 103-pitch effort, Cole lowered his season ERA to 4.60 from 5.40. The 33-year-old is tentatively slated to make his next start against the Mets at home. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:26 pm
    • Justin Verlander to throw bullpen on Saturday
Justin Verlander (neck) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Saturday.

Advice: Once again the 41-year-old right-hander is expected to throw around 20-25 pitches in the session. If all goes well there, he could be cleared to face live hitters. Verlander has been shelved since mid-June due to soreness in his neck, but it sounds like he’s finally taking steps toward a return to the Astros’ rotation. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:15 pm
