    • Crushed four six runs
Eovaldi (6-4) yielded six runs on eight hits over five innings Friday, striking out two and taking a loss against the Orioles.

Advice: Eovaldi got off to a rocky start, coughing up a pair of two-run homers in the first inning. He kept Baltimore off the board for a few frames before Anthony Santander joined the party with a two-run shot in the fifth. Eovaldi had given up three homers over his previous four outings before Friday's unsightly outing. On the bright side, he has now gone four straight starts without issuing a free pass. Eovaldi will carry a 3.36 ERA into his next outing, which is line to be at home against the White Sox. Rotowire.com 36 minutes ago
    • Starting to play defense
Holliday (elbow) will begin playing partial games at second base for Triple-A Norfolk as part of his rehab progression, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports Friday.

Advice: Holliday has exclusively played DH since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list June 25 after experiencing right elbow inflammation earlier that month, so this is a good sign he's nearly 100 percent healthy. The Orioles' top prospect, Holliday has a .898 OPS at Norfolk through 312 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 2:42 pm
    • Nathan Eovaldi starting Friday versus Orioles
Nathan Eovaldi will start Friday’s second-half opener against the Orioles.

Advice: Eovaldi, whose name has surfaced in recent trade rumors as a possible target for the Red Sox in their quest to win the AL East, draws the starting assignment for Friday’s series opener against a star-studded Baltimore lineup to be followed over the weekend by veterans Max Scherzer and Andrew Heaney. • Astros tab Hunter Brown to start second half
Hunter Brown will start Friday’s second-half series opener against the division-rival Mariners.

Advice: It appeared almost certain that Brown would be demoted after a brutal nine-start stretch to open the year, but he managed to turn things around to finish the first half with an impressive 2.36 ERA over his final 10 outings since May 22. It’ll be Framber Valdez and Ronel Blanco to round out the first series of the second half for Houston on the road at T-Mobile Park. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:46 pm
    • Red Sox could reunite with Eovaldi
The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey mentions that the Red Sox could be interested in trading for Nathan Eovaldi if the Rangers drop out of the playoff race.

Advice: McCaffrey highlights that “Eovaldi wanted to return to Boston before he signed with Texas last year,” so he would likely be open to returning to the Red Sox. Boston is in the market for one starting pitcher to round out their rotation, so this is a story to monitor in the coming weeks. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:46 am
    • Dazzles in first rehab outing
Williams (back) struck out all three batters he faced in a perfect inning during his rehab appearance Sunday with High-A Wisconsin.

Advice: Williams has been on the shelf all season while recovering from a pair of stress fractures in his back, but he didn't exhibit any signs of rust in his first game action of 2024. He needed just 14 pitches to strike out the side and generated four swings-and-misses during his brief time on the mound. The Brewers may have Williams shift his rehab assignment to Double-A Biloxi or Triple-A Nashville for a tougher test following the All-Star break, but the right-hander may not require too many more tune-up outings in the minors if he continues to look as sharp as he did Sunday. Williams should eventually supplant Trevor Megill as the Brewers' preferred option to close games once he's reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:31 pm

    • Escapes with save
Fairbanks allowed two hits in a scoreless inning and earned a save against the Guardians on Sunday.

Advice: Fairbanks was tasked with protecting a 2-0 lead and found himself in danger after coughing up singles to the first two batters he faced. He managed to retire the next three to escape unscathed. Fairbanks has converted 17 of 19 save chances this season while producing a 3.21 ERA and a 32:15 K:BB. Since the start of June, he owns a 2.55 ERA with 12 saves in 17 appearances. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:29 pm
    • Earns 10th win
Bello (10-5) picked up the win Sunday, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk over 6.1 innings against the Royals. He struck out three.

Advice: Bello's day started by allowing a leadoff homer to Adam Frazier, but he was quickly staked to a 4-1 lead and scattered only two additional runs the rest of the way while working into the seventh inning for the second time in three starts and just the third time this season. Bello has alternated good and bad outings recently, with Sunday representing his third quality start in his last six while he has allowed 16 earned runs in the other three appearances while failing to complete five innings twice. Bello places 10th in the majors with 10 wins; however, an ERA of 5.32 with a 1.47 WHIP and 85 strikeouts over 89.2 innings represent disappointing figures for the talented 25-year-old righty. • Zac Gallen gets clobbered in first half finale
Zac Gallen was absolutely clobbered in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon, giving up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits in just 3 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: The right-hander walked one and struck out just one batter in the ballgame. The Blue Jays had scratched out just an unearned run against him through the first three frames, but the wheels fell off for Gallen in the fourth inning. There, the Jays’ scored on run-scoring singles by Daulton Varsho and Ernie Clement before they opened it up with a grand slam off the bat of Kevin Kiermaier. Gallen got just four swings and misses on 70 pitches in the game, registering a CSW of 26 percent. He finishes his first half with a 6-5 record, 3.87 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 76/21 K/BB ratio over 76 2/3 innings in his 15 starts. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:15 pm
