    • Struggles with control in loss
Lopez (5-6) took the loss against the Yankees on Thursday, allowing seven runs on four hits and six walks while striking out four batters over four innings.

Advice: Lopez threw just 54 of 96 pitches for strikes and issued a season-high six walks -- more than he had handed out over his previous seven starts combined. Three of the free passes came to consecutive batters leading off the third frame, and all three of the recipients came around to score. The wildness was probably an aberration for Lopez considering his overall track record, but even when he's finding the strike zone, he's been struggling to get batters out. Over his past four starts, Lopez has allowed 21 earned runs over 20.2 innings, pushing his season ERA to a disappointing 5.45. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:15 pm
    • Manny Machado grounds out as pinch-hitter
After being held out of the starting lineup due to a hip flexor, Manny Machado grounded out as a pinch-hitter Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The Padres said after the game that Machado would have been run for if he hadn’t gotten on base and that it’s unlikely that he’ll start Friday, even at DH. Tyler Wade played third base tonight and probably will do the same Friday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:11 pm

    • Appears as pinch hitter
Machado (hip) entered Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks as a pinch hitter and grounded out to the pitcher, AJ Cassavell of MLB.comreports.

Advice: Machado was held out of Thursday's lineup after suffering a hip flexor strain Wednesday. He is considered day-to-day and was expected to be unavailable Thursday. The fact that he was able to pinch hit is a positive sign, though it's still unclear when he'll be able to rejoin the lineup. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:35 pm

    • Correa belts fifth home run Thursday
Carlos Correa went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI against the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: The home run was Correa’s fifth of the season. He later added a sacrifice fly and a single. Correa is hitting .263 with a .765 OPS and 24 RBI on the year. His .190 ISO would be his highest since his .205 ISO in 2021, his last year in Houston. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:33 pm

    • Lopez allows seven runs in loss Thursday
Pablo Lopez allowed seven runs in four innings and took the loss against the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Lopez gave up four hits, walked six and struck out four. It was a tough matchup against the Yankees, but Lopez was shaky in this one. He hit Austin Wells in the second inning and he scored on a home run by Trent Gresham. In the third inning, Lopez walked the bases loaded and all three of the runners ended up scoring. In the fourth inning, he walked Aaron Judge, who also ended up scoring. Lopez’ ERA is up to 5.45 on the season, but his xFIP is significantly lower at 3.42. The 28-year-old right-hander is set up for a bounce back matchup against the Rockies at home next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:20 pm
    • Manny Machado out Thursday with hip flexor strain
Manny Machado (hip) is absent from the lineup for Thursday’s series opener against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: No surprise here after Machado suffered a mild right hip flexor strain during Wednesday’s series finale against the Angels. The 31-year-old third baseman will presumably require a couple days off to rest and recover, but fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. It’ll be journeyman Tyler Wade filling in at the hot corner on Thursday night in his absence. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:31 pm

    • Willson Contreras continues making rapid progress
Willson Contreras (forearm) progressed to throwing and catching on Thursday at Busch Stadium.

Advice: Contreras is making rapid progress in his recovery from surgery to repair a fractured left forearm and there’s optimism that he’ll be ready to return earlier than originally anticipated. The 32-year-old backstop wasn’t expected back until sometime around the All-Star break, but it’s looking like he could return before the end of the month, barring any setbacks. There should be some clarity on his timeline once he undergoes a CT scan on Friday to determine whether he’ll be cleared to resume hitting. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:15 pm

    • Remains out of lineup
Machado (hip) is not in the Padres' lineup versus the Diamondbacks on Thursday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Machado suffered the hip flexor strain during the fourth inning of Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Angels as he hustled to first base in an effort to beat out a double play. The 31-year-old is considered day-to-day, and it seems he has avoided any significant damage. Tyler Wade will start in his place at third base and bat eighth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:49 pm

    • Doing field work
Contreras (forearm) was throwing, catching and running on the field prior to Thursday's game against the Rockies, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Contreras has been participating in all three activities since the Cardinals' last stretch of road games. It's an encouraging sign that the 32-year-old backstop is recovering well from his fractured left forearm, but he still is not expected back until closer to the All-Star break. Until then, Ivan Herrera will continue to serve as St. Louis' primary catcher. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:38 pm
