• Sharp in win
King (5-4) allowed four hits and one walk while striking out five over five scoreless innings to earn the win Friday over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: King wasn't all that efficient, needing 98 pitches (63 strikes) to get through five games, but that's the only knock on his performance. He's been excellent over his last three starts, allowing just two runs on 11 hits and four walks with 16 strikeouts over his last 17 innings. King is at a 3.58 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 83:32 K:BB through 78 innings across 14 appearances (13 starts). The right-hander will look to keep it rolling in his next start, tentatively projected to come at home versus the Athletics. Rotowire.com 48 minutes ago

  • Continuing rehab assignment
Bachman (shoulder) started a game for the Angels' Arizona Complex League team June 3 and is slated to throw three innings for the club Saturday, per MLB.com.

Advice: Bachman removed himself from a rehab outing May 30 due to neck stiffness, but he said he felt better the next day and was able to toss two innings June 3. That outing went well, as the right-hander didn't allow any runs or hits and struck out four batters. Bachman will look to increase his workload by an inning in his next appearance as he continues to build up following offseason shoulder surgery. Rotowire.com 55 minutes ago

  • Turns in quality start
Canning (2-6) allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two over 6.1 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Astros.

Advice: Canning picked up his second quality start in a row, but he's lost both of those starts due to a lack of run support. The right-hander has allowed four runs over his last 13 innings, though he hasn't exactly been dominant with a 6:3 K:BB in that span. He's now at a 4.65 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 47:26 K:BB through 69.2 innings over 13 starts. Canning is projected for a road start versus the Diamondbacks his next time out. • Yields four runs in no-decision
Gomber did not factor into the decision in Friday's 8-5 loss to St. Louis, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out four.

Advice: The former Cardinal Gomber was unsteady out the gate in his first outing at Busch Stadium since Aug. 18, 2022. The Colorado southpaw allowed three runs on four hits in the first inning and never recovered. Despite the four-run evening, Gomber has been surprisingly solid this year and now sports a 3.38 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 47:21 K:BB over 66.2 innings. He is slated to face the Twins on the road in his next start. Rotowire.com Today, 10:06 pm

  • Framber Valdez turns in complete game in 7-1 win
Framber Valdez went the distance against the Angels tonight, striking out eight in the Astros’ 7-1 victory.

Advice: This was the same team he gave up eight runs to on May 20. Valdez pitched a four-hitter in his seventh career complete game and first of 2024. He’s now 5-3 with a 3.53 ERA, and he’ll have a chance to keep it going against the Giants on Wednesday. Rotoworld Today, 10:06 pm

  • Griffin Canning takes loss after quality start
Griffin Canning surrendered three runs over 6 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Astros.

Advice: Canning’s velocity has been creeping back up after some April struggles, but his 16% strikeout rate is still way down from his career mark of 25%. If he’s traded to a team that has a better idea about how to get the most from its pitchers, he could be interesting down the stretch this year. If’s not likely to happen for him in Anaheim. • Secures 21st save
Helsley picked up the save in Friday's 8-5 victory over Colorado. He pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Advice: Helsley handily retired all three batters faced in his third consecutive scoreless outing to gather his league-leading 21st save. The Cardinals closer has been stellar, suffering just one blown save in his 28 total appearances. Overall, the 29-year-old flamethrower sports a 2.25 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 31:6 K:BB in 28 innings this season. Rotowire.com Today, 10:02 pm

  • Goes distance in win
Valdez tossed a complete game to earn the win Friday over the Angels, allowing one run on four hits and a walk while striking out eight over nine innings.

Advice: The Astros' bullpen was fairly fresh, but Valdez took care of business himself in his seventh career complete game. The lone mistake on his line was a Kevin Pillar solo home run in the second inning. Valdez has quality starts in four of his last five outings, and his strong performance Friday lowered his ERA to 3.53 with a 1.15 WHIP and 50:18 K:BB over 63.2 innings through 10 starts this season. The southpaw is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Giants. Rotowire.com Today, 9:44 pm

  • Ryan Helsley picks up 21st save vs. Rockies
Ryan Helsley converted a save while not allowing a run during Friday’s game against the Rockies.

Advice: Helsley breezed through his inning with a pair of strikeouts and needed just 11 pitches to pick up his 21st save of the season. The right-hander has had a couple scuffles in the first two-plus months of the campaign, but overall there haven’t been many stoppers better in 2024. Rotoworld Today, 8:27 pm
