    • Exits game with right knee injury
Marte left Saturday's game against the Cubs due to a sore right knee, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Marte left after the first inning of Friday's game and was replaced by Tyrone Taylor in center field. It's the same knee that has been sore for Marte over the last few weeks, and the Mets should provide some clarity on the severity of the injury following Saturday's game. • Starling Marte leaves game with knee soreness
Starling Marte was removed from Saturday’s game against the Cubs with right knee soreness.

Advice: MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo adds that Marte has been battling a right knee issue for the past couple weeks. There should be an update on his status at some point in the near future, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get a few days off moving forward in an effort to hopefully put the ongoing issue to bed. • Next start will be with Padres
Darvish (groin) is expected to come off the injured list to make his next start with San Diego, per MLB.com.

Advice: Darvish struggled in a minor-league rehab start with High-A Fort Wayne on Wednesday, allowing six runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three batters over 3.1 innings. He threw only 49 pitches in that outing, but the Padres nonetheless appear intent on moving him back into the rotation for his next appearance. It hasn't yet been announced when Darvish will make that start, but given the typical time between outings, it's logical to expect Monday or Tuesday versus Washington to be the target date. • Red Sox activate Wilyer Abreu for Saturday return
Red Sox activated OF Wilyer Abreu from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Abreu returns to Boston’s lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Reds after missing a couple weeks recovering from a right ankle sprain. The 24-year-old corner outfielder has been excellent defensively this season and also holds an .829 OPS with six homers and seven steals in 189 plate appearances over 53 games. • Activated from IL, back in lineup
The Red Sox reinstated Abreu (ankle) from the 10-day injured list Saturday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Abreu will start in right field and bat second against the Reds on Saturday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Abreu landed on the injured list June 4 after twisting his right ankle in the dugout against the Tigers on June 2. He began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday and went 3-for-12 with two solo home runs across his three outings. Prior to his injury, Abreu was slashing .272/.344/.485 with six home runs and 22 RBI while sporting an .829 OPS. To make room for Abreu, utility man Bobby Dalbec was optioned to Triple-A Worcester. • Strong outing wasted Friday
Kirby came away with a no-decision in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Marlins, allowing two runs on five hits over seven innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.

Advice: The 26-year-old right-hander reeled off his third straight quality start and ninth of the season on an efficient 85 pitches (60 strikes), but Kirby was denied his seventh win of the year when the Seattle offense went cold after the second inning. He'll take a 3.47 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and dazzling 89:9 K:BB through 93.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week in Tampa Bay. Rotowire.com Today, 7:01 am
    • George Kirby solid for seven in no-decision
George Kirby was left with a no-decision after seven innings of two-run ball Friday against the Marlins.

Advice: Kirby was undone by back-to-back solo homers in the sixth. The first of those, off the bat of Bryan De La Cruz, would have been a homer in three ballparks, according to Statcast. Apart from that sequence, Kirby was masterful. He’s allowed two runs or fewer in 11 of 16 starts. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:56 pm
    • Wilyer Abreu (ankle) will be activated on Saturday
Wilyer Abreu (ankle) will be activated from the injured list prior to Saturday’s game against the Reds.

Advice: The 24-year-old outfielder rejoined the team on Friday, but since he wasn’t going to start against left-hander Andrew Abbott anyways, the Red Sox are waiting an additional day to officially activate him from the injured list. He’ll return to a .272/.344/.485 slash line with six homers, 22 RBI and seven stolen bases through his first 53 games on the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:06 pm

    • Kerry Carpenter (back) to start baseball activity
Kerry Carpenter (back) told reporters on Friday that he has been cleared to start baseball activities on Monday.

Advice: The 26-year-old slugger will need at least a couple of weeks to ramp back up and will require a minor league rehab assignment before he’s ready to return to the Tigers’ lineup. If all goes well and he’s able to avoid any setbacks, we could see him back in the Olde English D right after the All-Star break. Before landing on the injured list, Carpenter was hitting .283/.342/.572 with eight homers and 29 RBI in his first 50 ballgames. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:36 pm
