• Zach Neto in starting lineup after calf issue
Zach Neto is starting at shortstop Monday after leaving Saturday’s game with calf tightness.

Advice: The very rare Sunday off day for the Angels gave Neto some additional time to recover. He’s batting sixth tonight. Rotoworld Monday, 2:32 pm

  • Playing time trending upward
Espinal will start at third base and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: Espinal will occupy third base for the fifth time in six games, with three of those starts coming against right-handers. For the second time during that stretch, Espinal will take aim at Pirates lefty Bailey Falter, who takes the hill for the Pirates on Monday. Espinal will carry a five-game hitting streak into Monday's contest, and he could end up handling a near-everyday role in the Cincinnati infield until the team elects to reinstate Noelvi Marte (suspension) to the big-league roster. Marte's 80-game suspension comes to an end Thursday, but he's struggled during his rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville and could be optioned if the Reds prefer to hand Espinal regular playing time. • Maikel Garcia leads off, shifts to second base
Maikel Garcia is back in the leadoff spot and playing second base for the Royals on Monday.

Advice: It’s the first time Garcia has played anywhere other third this year, but the Royals just called up a third baseman in CJ Alexander and have Michael Massey apparently limited to DH at the moment. As a result, Garcia will get to show his versatility. The return to the leadoff spot is also good news; he had led off throughout the season before being dropped to seventh on Saturday and eighth on Sunday. Considering that he has a .291 OBP, there’s no blaming the Royals for making the switch. Still, he remains a better bet than the alternative options to bat ahead of Bobby Witt Jr. Rotoworld Monday, 2:07 pm

  • Activated, starting Monday
Arias (personal) was reinstated from the family medical emergency list and will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Monday's series opener in Baltimore.

Advice: Cleveland sent infielder Angel Martinez back to Triple-A Columbus to make room on the 26-man active roster for Arias, who rejoins the big club after missing the previous three games while tending to a personal matter. Though he'll immediately enter the lineup in his return to the Guardians as the Orioles send southpaw Cade Povich to the mound, the righty-hitting Arias is expected to serve as a bench player against right-handed pitching more often than not. • Settling in at third base
Barger will start at third base and bat sixth in Monday's game against the Red Sox.

Advice: Barger will stay in the lineup for the seventh time in nine games, with each of his last four starts coming at third base. He looks like he'll be a priority over Ernie Clement at the hot corner while Isiah Kiner-Falefa shifts over to shortstop as a replacement for Bo Bichette (calf), who remains on the injured list. Since getting recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on June 14, Barger has gone 7-for-20 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, three RBI and three runs. Rotowire.com Monday, 1:38 pm

  • Loses hold of leadoff gig
Garcia went 1-for-3 with a base hit in Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Rangers.

Advice: Garcia had made each of his first 74 starts of the season as the Royals' leadoff hitter, but he was dropped down to seventh and eighth in the batting order over the final two games of the weekend in Texas. His slide down the lineup comes while he's mustered a .152/.221/.177 slash line over 20 games thus far in June. The Royals haven't yet settled on a replacement for Garcia atop the lineup, as both Adam Frazier (thumb) and Nick Loftin received turns in the leadoff spot to close out the weekend. • Rough start in leadoff role
Schuemann hit leadoff in both of the Athletics' games against the Twins over the weekend after Abraham Toro's (hamstring) placement on the injured list, going 0-for-8 with four strikeouts.

Advice: Schuemann, who went into Saturday's game having reached safely in four straight, may not be long for the top of the order given the results, although manager Mark Kotsay might exhibit some patience. Toro has put together a .240 average and .613 OPS as the leadoff hitter this season, so the standard he's set isn't extraordinarily high by any means. Nevertheless, there are several other candidates Kotsay could turn to for the role, so Schuemann, who's most frequently hit in the No. 7 and No. 9 spots this season, could soon shift back down the order. • Reds recall infielder Livan Soto on Sunday
Reds recalled INF Livan Soto from Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Soto was claimed off waivers back in mid-April from the Orioles and will be making his Cincinnati debut when he gets into a contest. The 24-year-old infielder got into 22 games for the Angels from 2022 to 2023. He’s a non-factor for fantasy purposes, but represents a solid bench depth option in the big leagues.
