    Athletics’ manager Mark Kotsay told reporters after Wednesday’s game that Zack Gelof was diagnosed with a left oblique strain and will likely head to the injured list.

    Advice: That’s a tough break for the Athletics and for fantasy managers who were relying on the dynamic 24-year-old second baseman. No word yet on how much time he may miss, but oblique injuries usually take at least a couple of weeks to recover and could be even longer depending on the severity. He sparked Miami’s ninth-inning rally against Braves stopper Raisel Iglesias with a leadoff single to cap off a three-hit effort.   • Curtis Mead powers Rays past Tigers on Wednesday
    Curtis Mead clubbed a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning on Wednesday, powering the Rays to a 7-5 victory over the Tigers.

    Advice: After the Tigers rallied to take the lead in the top half of the sixth inning, the Rays tied it up on a two-out RBI single by Ben Rortvedt. Mead then followed by lining a 327-foot (87.3 mph EV) two-run homer off of Will Vest to put the Rays ahead for good. It snuck just over the cut out in left field and would only have been a home run in one of 30 MLB ballparks, fortunately for the Rays it’s the one they played in on Wednesday.     LeMahieu is still dealing with swelling in his right foot and will be shut down from baseball activity for a week, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

    Advice: LeMahieu had to make an early exit from his first rehab game at Double-A Somerset on Tuesday after his fractured right foot began bothering him in the first inning. After getting checked out by team doctors Wednesday, he will officially be pulled off his rehab assignment and shut down from all activity for the next seven days.
