    • Max Scherzer (thumb) throws simulated game Tuesday
Max Scherzer (thumb) threw a two-inning simulated game on Tuesday at Globe Life Field.

Advice: Scherzer, who has been dealing with a thumb issue during his rehabilitation process from offseason back surgery, threw roughly 40 pitches in his latest throwing session. The 39-year-old righty told reporters afterwards that he hopes to head out soon on another minor league rehab assignment. There isn’t a definitive timetable for his return, but it’s not unrealistic to think he could return prior to the All-Star break. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:44 pm

    • Throws live batting practice
Scherzer (back/arm) threw a 40-pitch live batting practice session Tuesday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

Advice: It's the first time he's faced hitters since he had to be pulled off a rehab assignment in early May following a nerve problem with his throwing arm. Scherzer -- who initially went on the injured list as he recovered from offseason back surgery -- said after Tuesday's session that he's hoping his next step will be to make a rehab start. There remains no timetable for the 38-year-old return to the Rangers' rotation, but things are trending up. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:44 pm

    • Jacob Young back in lineup Tuesday against Mets
Jacob Young (hand) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Mets.

Advice: Young sat out Monday’s series opener due to right hand inflammation stemming from a hit by pitch over the weekend. The 24-year-old speedster is ready to go for Tuesday’s showdown at Nationals Park. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:06 pm

    • Returns to Washington lineup
Young (hand) will start in center field and bat ninth in Tuesday's game versus the Mets.

Advice: Young missed two starts with swelling in his right hand but is feeling well enough to give it a go Tuesday against left-hander David Peterson and the Mets. The speedy Young is tied for fourth in baseball this season with 17 stolen bases. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:33 pm

    • Roughed up in loss
Gore (4-5) took the loss Monday against the Mets, allowing six earned runs on seven hits and four walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Gore loaded the bases with one out in the fifth inning before departing, unfortunately reliever Dylan Floro allowed all three runners to score, adding three earned runs to Gore's stat line. Monday's outing was very uncharacteristic for the southpaw, who recorded a season-low two strikeouts and allowed more than two earned runs for the first time since April 19. After tonight's rough outing, the 25-year-old sports a 3.57 ERA, a 1.37 WHIP and 74 strikeouts in 63 innings pitched. Gore will look to rebound in his next start, tentatively scheduled for this weekend versus Atlanta. Rotowire.com Monday, 9:49 pm

    • Swipes 10th bag
Marte went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Monday's 8-7 win over Washington.

Advice: Marte has been on a heater, recording multiple hits four times in his past five games. During that span, the 35-year-old is batting .473 (9-for-19) with four RBI, two steals and three runs scored. Marte is now up to a .275 batting average on the season with six home runs, 23 RBI, 30 runs scored and 10 steals in 224 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:36 pm

    • Starling Marte posts three hits, steal in victory
Starling Marte went 3-for-5 with a stolen base on Monday in the Mets’ win over the Nationals.

Advice: Marte tallied three singles and also picked up his 10th theft of the season during Monday’s slugfest at Nationals Park. The 35-year-old veteran outfielder is in the midst of an unexpected late-career resurgence as he appears healthy and is really starting to hit his stride at the dish of late, slashing .357/.413/.571 with two homers and two steals over his last 15 games. • MacKenzie Gore allows six runs in loss to Mets
MacKenzie Gore was shelled for six runs over 4 1/3 innings on Monday in a loss to the Mets.

Advice: Gore struggled to find the strike zone, and also failed to generate swinging strikes in this one, which turned out to be a pretty toxic combination. He wound up handing out a season-high four free passes and also surrendered seven hits, including a towering 420-foot solo shot to Mets rookie slugger Mark Vientos. He finished with a season-low two strikeouts in arguably his worst outing of the season. He’ll aim for better results his next time out on Saturday against the division-rival Braves. • Held out of lineup again
Young (hand) remains out of the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Mets.

Advice: Young exited Saturday's game against the Guardians with swelling in his right hand and has now been out of the lineup for two straight tilts. He attempted to do some hitting Monday but was still sore, per Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post. Lane Thomas will again slide over from right field to cover center field while Young rests up.
