      Phillips earned a save against the Rockies on Thursday, striking out two batters in a perfect ninth inning.

It was the fifth straight scoreless and hitless outing for the closer, who has allowed an earned run in only two of his 21 appearances this season.       Advice: Winker took Ryne Nelson deep in the sixth inning to cut the Diamondbacks’ lead to 4-2. The outfielder has homered in back-to-back games and now has eight roundtrippers on the year.       Volpe went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs Wednesday in an extra-inning loss to Baltimore.

      Advice: Volpe set the table well out of the leadoff spot, reaching base four times and notching his sixth effort of at least three hits this season. The second-year shortstop came up with a clutch hit in the ninth inning, doubling to left field and later coming home to score the game-tying run on a Giancarlo Stanton single.       Astros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that he's hopeful Tucker (shin) will be ready to begin baseball activities this weekend, Casey Drottar of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Tucker's recovery from a right shin contusion has come along more slowly than expected, but he seems to have made some progress in recent days.       Advice: He delivered what proved to be the game-winning hit in the sixth inning when he drove a Brandon Pfaadt splitter over the fence in left-center field. Winker snapped a 25-game homer drought with the blast, but he wasn't exactly slumping during that stretch, batting .333 (25-for-75) over that stretch.
