    • Aaron Civale allows one run in no-decision
      Aaron Civale pitched 5 ⅓ innings on Friday against the Orioles and allowed one earned run. He struck out three and walked one.

      Advice: Civale has simplified his approach of late. This was his seventh consecutive start throwing his cutter at least 30% of the time and the third time in four starts where he’s thrown it 40% of the time. The final results were solid here against one of the best offenses in baseball, but Civale induced just six swings and misses while the Orioles hit 10 balls hard.     • Astros don’t provide update on Cristian Javier
      Astros’ manager Joe Espada did not give an update on right-handers Cristian Javier and Jose Urquidy on Friday, aside from saying that he’s giving both pitchers space while they are awaiting second opinions.

      Advice: If that’s not discouraging enough, Espada also refused to comment when asked if the pitchers’ UCL’s were intact. Lovely.     • Homers twice in extra-innings win
      Siri went 2-for-5 with a pair of solo home runs in Thursday's 6-5 win over the A's in 12 innings.

      Advice: Siri extended Tampa's lead to 3-0 in the second inning, blasting a 428-foot solo shot off Hogan Harris before tying the game at 4-4 with his second homer off Oakland closer Mason Miller in the ninth. The 28-year-old Siri had been losing out on playing time to Jonny DeLuca, though the former has now gone 5-for-11 in his last three games while DeLuca has just one hit in his last 15 at-bats. Still, with Josh Lowe (oblique) aiming for a return early next week, Siri may have to settle for a short-side platoon role.       Josh Hader struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning on Thursday against the Mariners.

      Advice: Hader got the call to protect a four-run advantage in a non-save situation and made things interesting by giving up singles to Julio Rodríguez and Ty France before striking out Dominic Canzone and getting Mitch Haniger to ground out to extinguish the threat. The 30-year-old lefty has allowed just two runs with a 20/4 K/BB ratio across 11 appearances since the start of May. Simply put, he remains one of the few elite closers in the fantasy landscape.       Geraldo Perdomo (knee) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Friday in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

    • Jose Siri blasts two homers to help Rays edge A’s
      Jose Siri went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs on Thursday in the Rays’ victory over the Athletics.

      Advice: Siri’s second home run was a game-tying blast off Athletics closer Mason Miller in the bottom of the ninth inning. The two-homer game gives him a total of just five on the season after hitting 25 in 101 games last year. Siri hit just .222 last season and is at .188 this year so he can’t be counted on for batting average.       Harvey gave up a hit and struck out three over 1.1 scoreless innings Wednesday to record his 16th hold of the season in a win over Atlanta.

      Advice: The 29-year-old righty is second in the majors in holds behind the Cardinals' JoJo Romero, who has 18. Harvey has stayed healthy so far in 2024 and produced dominant numbers with a 2.22 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 33:6 K:BB through 28.1 innings, but he has yet to pick up a save due to Kyle Finnegan also remaining sharp as the Nationals' closer.       Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners.

      Advice: Alvarez recorded a base hit in the top of the fourth before coming around to score Houston's only run of the contest on an RBI single from Jake Meyers. The outfielder would add another single in his next at-bat, giving him back-to-back multi-hit games, while also going on to swipe a bag for the second game in a row.     • Rosenthal: Luzardo “likely to be traded”
      According to Ken Rosenthal, Jesús Luzardo “is the single player most likely to be traded” this season.

      Advice: Luzardo was a popular name in trade rumors in the offseason but was ultimately not moved. He has two more arbitration years before he becomes a free agent, so the Marlins should be able to get a decent return for him. In a year where they are not contending, it makes sense to see what they could get for the lefty, especially with Sandy Alcantara, Max Meyer, Eury Perez, Edward Cabrera, Braxton Garrett, and Ryan Weathers all able to take on a full workload in the rotation next season.
