• Racks up two homers, six RBI
Higashioka went 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI in Wednesday's 8-5 win against the Nationals.

Advice: Higashioka drove in all but two of San Diego's eight runs. He swatted a two-run homer to kick off the scoring in the second inning and capped his offensive outburst with a grand slam in the eighth. The grand slam was the first of Higashioka's career, while the multi-homer effort was his fifth as a big leaguer. He's hitting only .207 on the season but has otherwise provided good production with eight homers and 20 RBI in 32 games. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:11 pm
  • Higashioka homers twice, plates six to lead Padres
Kyle Higashioka had a monster day at the dish in Wednesday’s 8-5 victory over the Nationals, going 3-for-6 with a pair of homers, three runs scored and six RBI.

Advice: The 34-year-old backstop got the scoring started in the ballgame with a 386-foot (107.2 mph EV) two-run blast off of Nationals’ southpaw DJ Herz in the second inning. He then singled and scored on an RBI knock by Jurickson Profar in the fourth. Higashioka then capped off the afternoon with a 390-foot (104.2 mph EV) grand slam off of Tanner Rainey in the eighth that made it 8-0 put the game out of reach. He’s now slashing .207/.240/.522 with eight homers and 20 RBI on the season. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:47 pm
  • Connor Wong (paternity) expected back on Friday
Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that Connor Wong is expected to return from the paternity list on Friday.

Advice: The hard-hitting backstop missed the first half of the week to attend the birth of his child, but expect him to be right back behind the dish for Friday’s series opener against the Padres. The 28-year-old backstop has been a force at the plate this season, slashing .330/.390/.480 with seven homers, 29 RBI and three stolen bases in 223 plate appearances. • Heading to bench Wednesday
Fry is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Advice: After leaving Sunday's 6-5 win over the Blue Jays earlier due to elbow inflammation, Fry returned to the lineup as a designated hitter for both of the Guardians' first two games in Baltimore, going 2-for-8 with two doubles and an RBI. The Guardians haven't indicated that Fry is dealing with a setback with the elbow, so his absence from the lineup Wednesday is likely just a pre-planned maintenance day. • Sent outright to Triple-A
The Mets outrighted Hudson to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Hudson cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization. He didn't receive a plate appearance during his brief time with the Mets. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 12:17 pm

  • Getting day off Wednesday
O'Hoppe is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Athletics.

Advice: O'Hoppe had started each of the previous 11 games -- including 10 at catcher -- so the Angels determined it was time to give him a breather. Matt Thaiss will start behind the plate for the Halos in Wednesday's series finale. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:44 am
  • Catching bullpen session
Moreno (thumb) will catch Zac Gallen's (hamstring) bullpen session Thursday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: A sprained left thumb forced Moreno onto the injured list Saturday, and Wednesday's bullpen session will allow him to get a feel for how his thumb feels in his glove after a few days of recovery. Assuming all goes well, there is a strong possibility that the 24-year-old backstop will be able to return from the injured list when eligible next Tuesday. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 4:00 pm

  • Hoping to swing bat Wednesday
Herrera (back) will play catch Tuesday and is hoping to hit off a tee and take flips Wednesday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Herrera is eligible for activation Saturday but could need a rehab assignment before returning. He could make it back by early July if all goes well. It wouldn't seem to be a given that Herrera rejoins the big-league roster at that point, however, since Willson Contreras is back from the injured list and Pedro Pages had been playing over Herrera prior to the latter's injury. • Taking seat Tuesday
Murphy is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: After catching back-to-back games, Murphy will yield to Travis d'Arnaud behind the plate Tuesday. Murphy owns a .618 OPS with a 27.4 percent strikeout rate across 73 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:37 pm
