    • Homers again in win
Cowser went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 2-1 win over the Rangers on Friday.

Advice: Cowser opened the scoring with a solo home run off Max Scherzer in the fourth inning. While the young outfielder is hitting just .203 in June, he has now homered in his past three starts and has five total in the month. On the season, Cowser is hitting .231 with 12 home runs, 34 RBI, 32 runs scored and five steals in 257 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:22 pm

    • Exits after HBP
Springer was removed from Friday's game against the Yankees due to a left hand contusion.

Advice: Springer took a 93-mph fastball off his hand/wrist during the fifth inning. He remained in the game to run the bases and play defense, but he was eventually pinch hit for by Davis Schneider in the seventh frame. Precautionary imaging on Springer's hand came back negative for a fracture, and his ability to remain in the game immediately following the incident is a good sign he'll remain available for Saturday's contest. • Colton Cowser homers for Orioles
Colton Cowser went 1-for-4 with a solo home run on Friday against the Rangers.

Advice: Cowser’s home run was smoked at 110 MPH and he hit fifth in this game, the highest he’s hit in Baltimore’s lineup since May 29th. His playing time was thought to be in danger with Heston Kjerstad’s promotion earlier this week. He and Kjerstad started three times in five games this week making this platoon a headache for managers in weekly leagues. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:43 pm

    • George Springer (hand) exits after hit by pitch
George Springer was removed from Friday night’s battle against the Yankees after being hit on the left hand by a pitch thrown by Michael Tonkin.

Advice: The Blue Jays announced that Springer underwent precautionary imaging on his hand that came back negative for any fractures. That doesn’t mean he’s completely out of the woods, but it’s a very encouraging sign. For now, he’s being considered day-to-day with a left hand contusion. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:39 pm

    • Resumes throwing program
Schmidt (lat) has resumed his throwing program, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The right-hander took the first step in his throwing program Monday when he started playing catch, per Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. Schmidt has been out with a right lat strain and was transferred to the 60-day injured list June 18. Before the injury he had gone 5-3 over 11 starts with a 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67:20 K:BB over 60.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:26 pm

    • Clarke Schmidt (lat) resumed playing catch
Clarke Schmidt (lat) began playing catch on Monday as he continues to work his way back from a right lat strain.

Advice: He’s still a long way away from being ready for game action, but it’s nice to see the 28-year-old hurler take a small step in the right direction after being shut down from throwing altogether for nearly a month. Even in the most optimistic of scenarios, it’s unlikely that we see Schmidt back with the Yankees before the start of August. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:24 pm

    • Absent from Baltimore lineup
Westburg is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Rangers.

Advice: Westburg had started each of the previous eight contests, but he'll begin this one on the bench as the Orioles face right-hander Max Scherzer. Baltimore will go with Jorge Mateo at second base and Ramon Urias at third. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:24 pm

    • Orioles place Corbin Burnes on paternity list
Orioles placed RHP Corbin Burnes on the paternity list.

Advice: All this meant is that the Orioles will benefit from having an extra reliever for the next two or three days. Burnes defeated the Rangers last night and isn’t slated to make his next start until Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:20 am

    • Placed on paternity leave list
The Orioles placed Burnes on the paternity leave list Friday.

Advice: Burnes will likely be away for the remainder of the series against the Rangers as he welcomes a new addition to the family. The righty started Thursday's series opener and should be back in time for his next turn, which is tentatively lined up to come next week in Seattle. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:15 am
