      Advice: Smith got the start at shortstop with Corey Seager (wrist) day-to-day. Seager was hit by a pitch during Saturday's game and, although X-rays came back negative, took a seat for the series finale against the Orioles. The Rangers are off Monday, giving Seager another 24 hours of healing, before a three-game set against the Padres. Once Seager is deemed healthy enough to return to shortstop, Smith will head back to third base, where he will continue to fill in for the injured Josh Jung (wrist).     • Crushed by Giants
      Paxton (7-2) allowed nine runs on 12 hits and two walks over four innings Sunday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Giants.

      Advice: Paxton gave up four runs through three frames before the Giants piled on with a five-run fourth inning. The veteran southpaw had a very odd month of June; he gave up six earned runs in 1.2 innings against the Pirates on June 5 but allowed just two total runs over his next three outings before Sunday's unraveling. Overall, he posted a 6.46 ERA this month, raising his season mark to 4.28 through 15 starts. Paxton's next start is currently lined up to be at home against the Brewers.     • Paul Sewald lowers ERA to 0.54 on Sunday
      Paul Sewald struck out two in a perfect ninth inning on Sunday against the Athletics.

      Advice: It was a non-save situation, with Arizona leading by four runs entering the final frame, but Sewald remained locked-in nonetheless, needing just 13 pitches (11 strikes) to end the game. The 34-year-old righty has reeled off 17 consecutive scoreless appearances since giving up one run back on May 7 in his season debut. He’s converted all 11 of his save chances this season and boasts a microscopic 0.54 ERA, 0.48 WHIP and 15/3 K/BB ratio across 16 2/3 innings (18 appearances).     • Big Maple gets lit up Sunday in loss to Giants
      James Paxton was torched for nine runs on 12 hits over four innings on Sunday in a loss to the Giants.

      Advice: Paxton gave up a couple early runs before the metaphorical wheels came off completely in the fourth inning when he was obliterated for five runs on four hits, including a two-run homer by Matt Chapman, and one free pass. The dozen hits allowed were a career-high for Paxton, who struck out four and handed out a pair of walks as well. The 35-year-old southpaw had allowed just two runs combined across 16 innings of work over his previous three starts dating back to June 11.     • Rounding into form
      Cole (1-1) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on three hits, a walk and two hit batsmen over five innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out six.

      Advice: Cole continues to struggle with his command as he rounds into form following a two-plus month stint on the IL with a nerve irritation in his elbow, but Sunday's performance represented a major step in the right direction. After walking four and allowing four homers in his previous start, Cole allowed a single run in the third, then struck out three of the last six batters he faced as he sent the Blue Jays down in order in the fourth and fifth innings to close out his day. The five innings pitched, 90 pitches thrown, one run allowed and six strikeouts each represented a season-best total for Cole, who continues to inch his way back toward his normal workload.     • Gerrit Cole wins, rights ship against Blue Jays
      Gerrit Cole scattered three hits and a walk across five innings on Sunday in an 8-1 win over the Blue Jays. He allowed one run and struck out six.

      Advice: This was the first time this season Cole looked like himself. His fastball velocity was much more consistent than it had been in either of his first two starts and he showed no hesitation in challenging the Blue Jays hitters with it. He also showed better command of his secondaries and the Yankees let him work all the way up to 90 pitches. While not perfect, this was the kind of start we needed to see from Cole.       Reynolds went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Sunday's 4-2 win against Atlanta.

      Advice: Reynolds didn't get the ball out of the infield Sunday, recording a pair of groundouts to go with two strikeouts. His 25-game hitting streak is the longest in MLB this season and the fifth longest by a Pirates player since 1900. He entered June with a .249/.320/.402 slash line and finishes at .274/.341/.466.       Raleigh went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in a loss to the Twins on Saturday.

      Advice: Raleigh is much more renowned for his power than his speed, but he's now up to a career-high four stolen bases with Saturday's swipe. The slugging backstop has reached safely in seven straight games, a stretch during which he owns a .429 on-base percentage thanks in large part to a 25.0 percent walk rate.       Jones went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run Saturday against the White Sox.

      Advice: Jones entered Saturday's game having collected just one hit across his last 15 at-bats. He ended that short slump with a two-run homer in the fifth inning, his second long ball since returning from the injured list June 14. Jones is still working on finding his rhythm this season after missing around six weeks due to knee and back injuries, but he is now hitting .250 since being activated.
