    • Edwin Díaz works scoreless ninth for save
      Edwin Díaz pitched a scoreless ninth with a one-run lead for his seventh save Tuesday against the Rangers.

      Advice: The ninth started with a bloop single that third baseman Mark Vientos probably should have caught in shallow left, but it appeared he got spooked by Brandon Nimmo’s arrival. Fortunately, the ball was hit by Johan Heim, who settled for a single when an average runner might have gotten a double. A double play followed, and Díaz then got a flyout to end the game.     • Castellanos has big game-winning hit
      Nick Castellanos went 4-for-5 with a game-winning double in a 4-3 win over the Padres on Tuesday.

      Advice: Castellanos came to the plate in a tie game in the ninth inning and blooped in a 78 mph double just beyond a sliding Fernando Tatis Jr. in right field. It was a much-needed big game for the veteran, who was hitting .203 in 14 games in June and is now hitting just .219 overall on the season. Castellanos is making more contact and striking out less this season, but he’s making less authoritative contact and really struggling to hit anything other than fastballs with a .134 AVG and .208 wOBA against off-speed pitches. He’ll continue to play regularly and hit in the middle of the Phillies’ lineup, but there aren’t many signs of a full-on bounceback here. Rotoworld Today, 7:54 pm
       
    • Alexis Díaz earns 16th save on Tuesday
      Alexis Díaz pitched a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a 2-1 win over the Pirates on Tuesday.

      Advice: The save was Díaz’s 16th of the season and 5th in the month of June. It was a nice rebound from his tough outing against the Brewers last time out and Díaz has now thrown a scoreless inning in eight of his last 11 appearances. The bigger key for the 27-year-old was that he didn’t walk a batter in this outing, only the second time in June he’s accomplished that.       Manager David Bell said Candelario was removed from Tuesday's win over the Pirates due to tendinitis, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

      Advice: Candelario appeared to be in a bit of pain while running the bases during Tuesday's game, eventually leading to his removal during the eighth inning. However, the Reds' skipper noted that the 30-year-old infielder is not at risk of spending time on the injured list, and he seemed confident that the injury will go away relatively quickly.     • Nick Lodolo tremendous in win over PIT
      Nick Lodolo allowed one run on four hits in seven innings in a win over the Pirates on Tuesday.

      Advice: The left-hander struck out eight and didn’t walk a single batter on the day. He got 18 whiffs on 50 swings for a 36 percent whiff rate and 32 percent CSW on the day. He did a good job keeping his fastball upstairs and the curve low in the zone, which led to a 57 percent whiff rate on the curve alone. Lodolo has always showcased high upside but injuries have gotten in his way; yet, he now has a 2.76 ERA on the year with a good start against these same Pirates next week.       Jeimer Candelario was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Pirates with general fatigue and tendinitis.

      Advice: Reds manager David Bell told reporters afterwards that Candelario isn’t in danger of requiring a trip to the injured list. It sounds like more of a day-to-day maintenance issue than anything else. Rotoworld Today, 6:28 pm

      Scherzer (back/thumb) will return from the injured list and start against the Royals on Saturday, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Scherzer has been on the injured list all season while recovering from offseason back surgery and battling thumb/forearm injuries throughout his rehab process. However, after experiencing no issues following his latest rehab start at Triple-A Round Rock, the 39-year-old veteran has officially been given the green light to return to the Rangers' rotation. He posted a 4.91 ERA and 1.18 WHIP alongside a 17:3 K:BB through 11 innings during his assignment, and it's unclear if the right-hander will be working under any restrictions during his return to a big-league mound.       Advice: It’s a soft landing spot for Scherzer, who is finally set to make his season debut after undergoing offseason back surgery and dealing with a nerve-related thumb issue during his rehabilitation process.
