    • Jesse Winker leaves game with knee issue Friday
Jesse Winker was pulled from Friday night’s contest against the Rays

Advice: The 30-year-old outfielder injured his knee while making a terrific catch in the outfield to end the home half of the first inning. Fortunately, he avoided any structural damage and is hopeful that he’ll be able to return to the Nationals’ lineup on Saturday. For now, he should be considered day-to-day. • Tosses complete-game shutout
Sanchez (6-3) earned the win against the Marlins on Friday, allowing three hits and no walks over nine scoreless innings while striking out nine.

Advice: Sanchez was dominant, allowing only singles and generating 16 swinging strikes on 101 pitches in his first career complete-game shutout. Since June 17, the southpaw has won three straight contests and surrendered just one earned run over 23 innings with an 18:1 K:BB. The 27-year-old owns a 2.41 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 79:24 K:BB through 93.1 innings in 2024 and will look to stay hot against the Cubs next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:07 pm
    • Cristopher Sánchez records first career shutout
Cristopher Sánchez delivered a dazzling performance against the Marlins on Friday night, racking up nine strikeouts while recording his first career shutout.

Advice: The 27-year-old left-hander scattered just three hits on the night — all of them singles — and didn’t walk a batter. He needed just 101 pitches (73 strikes) to navigate his nine brilliant innings. Sánchez generated 16 swings and misses in the ballgame — eight of those on his changeup — while registering a strong CSW of 34 percent. Now 6-3 on the season, he’ll look to keep the good times rolling as he carries a pristine 2.41 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 79/24 K/BB ratio (93 1/3 innings) into Thursday’s showdown against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. • Early exit Friday
Winker was removed from Friday's game against the Rays with what appears to be a right ankle injury, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Winker sustained the injury running into the wall while tracking down a flyball in the first inning. Though he was able to walk off under his own power, he sported a noticeable limp. Ildemaro Vargas replaced Winker in left field. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:20 pm

    • Not in lineup Friday
Ortiz (neck) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Cubs.

Advice: Ortiz has been dealing with a neck injury since last week's series against the Angels, and he was removed in the sixth inning of Wednesday's game against the Rangers after going 0-for-2. Despite having a day off Thursday, Ortiz will be in the dugout for at least the series opener against Chicago. Andruw Monasterio will start at third base Friday and bat ninth against Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:37 pm

    • Resumes throwing program
Schmidt (lat) has resumed his throwing program, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The right-hander took the first step in his throwing program Monday when he started playing catch, per Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. Schmidt has been out with a right lat strain and was transferred to the 60-day injured list June 18. Before the injury, he had gone 5-3 over 11 starts with a 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67:20 K:BB over 60.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:26 pm

    • Clarke Schmidt (lat) resumed playing catch
Clarke Schmidt (lat) began playing catch on Monday as he continues to work his way back from a right lat strain.

Advice: He’s still a long way away from being ready for game action, but it’s nice to see the 28-year-old hurler take a small step in the right direction after being shut down from throwing altogether for nearly a month. Even in the most optimistic of scenarios, it’s unlikely that we see Schmidt back with the Yankees before the start of August. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:24 pm

    • Absent from Baltimore lineup
Westburg is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Rangers.

Advice: Westburg had started each of the previous eight contests, but he'll begin this one on the bench as the Orioles face right-hander Max Scherzer. Baltimore will go with Jorge Mateo at second base and Ramon Urias at third. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:24 pm

    • Homer, two hits in win
Rengifo went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Thursday's win over the Tigers.

Advice: Rengifo increased the Angels' lead to five runs with a two-out, two-run blast in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving the second baseman his first long ball since May 24. The performance marked his eighth multi-hit performance this month and the third in his four contests, raising his season batting average to .312. The home run was Rengifo's fifth of the campaign.
