    • Josh Smith returns to lineup Tuesday vs. Mets
Josh Smith is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Mets.

Advice: Smith is back at designated hitter for Tuesday’s contest against the Mets after missing four straight games due to general soreness. It could be a few additional days before he’s ready to get back onto the field defensively, but it’s an encouraging development that the Rangers are able to get his bat back into the lineup. The 26-year-old infielder has been excellent this year, batting .294/.384/.436 with four homers and four steals across 243 plate appearances. Rotoworld 14 minutes ago

    • Back in lineup
Smith (hamstring) is batting third as the designated hitter Tuesday against the Mets.

Advice: Smith missed four straight games with tightness in his upper hamstring but will rejoin the lineup Tuesday. While he's healthy enough to play, the Rangers are opting to ease Smith into action in a non-defensive capacity, giving him his first start at DH this season. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

    • Nolan Arenado out of lineup Tuesday vs. Marlins
Nolan Arenado is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Arenado has not been at his best lately, and after going 0-for-6 in Monday’s extra-innings win over the Marlins, the Cardinals will give their third baseman a day off. Brandon Crawford is getting his first ever start at third base while Arenado rests. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago

    • Taking seat Tuesday
Arenado is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Miami.

Advice: Arenado went 0-for-6 in Monday's extra-innings win over the Marlins and is just 3-for-20 over his last five games, so he's being given a day off to regroup. Brandon Crawford is making his first career start at third base. Rotowire.com 40 minutes ago

    • Progressing slowly
Astros manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Verlander's (neck) progress has been "slower than we expected," Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Verlander was scratched of his most recently scheduled start this past weekend against the Tigers because of neck discomfort. The club had been hoping he would be ready to start Thursday versus the White Sox, and while Espada didn't seem to officially rule Verlander out for the series finale in Chicago, he now appears likely to be pushed back again. Houston could have Spencer Arrighetti and Ronel Blanco both move up a day to start on Thursday and Friday, respectively, which would keep both pitchers on their typical four days' rest. The arrangement would also give Verlander a couple extra days to heal up if the team thinks he could take the ball Saturday versus the Orioles. A stint on the injured list for Verlander also can't be ruled out. Rotowire.com Today, 11:03 am

    • Verlander (neck) progress ‘slower than expected’
Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters Tuesday that Justin Verlander (neck) may not be ready to start Thursday against the White Sox.

Advice: Espada said that Verlander’s progress from his neck injury is going “slower than expected.” The right-hander was scratched from his start against the Tigers on Saturday because of that discomfort, and while there was hope he could make his next scheduled trip to the mound, that’s very much in doubt. Fantasy managers who roster Verlander will want to pay attention to the situation. Rotoworld Today, 10:49 am

    • On base four times in rout
Alonso went 3-for-5 with a walk, a run scored and two RBI in Monday's win over the Rangers.

Advice: The first baseman kept the line moving for the Mets in a 14-2 rout. Alonso still isn't supplying his usual power, but he's picked up the pace a bit in June, slashing .259/.348/.483 through 14 games with four doubles, three homers, nine runs and 12 RBI. • Rengifo comes off bench day after wrist injury
Luis Rengifo came off the bench and struck out as a pinch-hitter Monday against the Brewers.

Advice: He then remained in to play two innings at third base. Rengifo didn’t start because of a wrist injury suffered Sunday, but it seems like he’ll be fine. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:01 pm

    • Picks up fourth win
Sanchez (4-3) went seven innings and allowed two runs (one earned) to earn the win Monday against the Padres. He gave up six hits, one walk, and struck out five.

Advice: Sanchez was impressive Monday against San Diego, as he allowed only one extra-base hit. It was the eighth start this season in which he's allowed one earned run or fewer. The lefty matched his season high for innings pitched and lowered his ERA to 2.91 in the process. The 27-year-old is tentatively scheduled to pitch again this weekend versus the Diamondbacks.
