  • Casali getting 'strong interest' from teams
Free agent Curt Casali is getting "strong interest" from teams, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

Advice: Casali was outrighted off the Rays' 40-man roster in early November and opted to become a free agent, a move Topkin says was good for the 29-year-old. Casali owns a .199/.285/.385 career line but could be a backup option for a team in search of veteran help. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:09 pm

  • Reds re-sign Patrick Kivlehan to minors deal
Reds re-signed INF/OF Patrick Kivlehan to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: Kivlehan elected free agency last week, but has decided to re-up with the Reds. He his .208/.304/.399 with nine homers, 26 RBI and a 61/22 K/BB ratio over 204 plate appearances at the big league level last season. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:34 am

  • Reds sign OF Mason Williams to minors deal
    C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports the Reds have signed outfielder Mason Williams to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: The 26-year-old outfielder has gotten brief cups of coffee with the Yankees each of the last three seasons. He has a career .281/.313/.391 slash line with one homer in 68 plate appearances. The former top 100 prospect will compete for a backup outfielder job when camp opens. Rotoworld.com Friday, 7:09 pm

  • Mike Moustakas rejects Royals' QO
3B Mike Moustakas rejected the Royals' one-year, $17.4 million qualifying offer.

Advice: Moustakas is set to strike it rich this offseason after slugging a career-high 38 home runs for the Royals this past season. He's a native of Southern California and the Angels have already been pegged as a likely pursuer of the third baseman this winter. Rotoworld.com Friday, 8:44 am

  • Ryan O'Rourke signs with Orioles
Orioles signed LHP Ryan O'Rourke to a minor league contract.

Advice: O'Rourke underwent Tommy John surgery at the beginning of May, so he'll likely miss at least the first couple of months of next season. The 29-year-old had a 4.98 ERA in 47 innings for the Twins between 2015 and 2016. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 5:26 pm

  • Blue Jays sign former 1st-rounder McGuire
Blue Jays signed RHP Deck McGuire to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Advice: McGuire was a first-round flop with the Blue Jays after being taken 11th overall in 2010, so it's surprising that he would want back in. He's coming off his best season as a pro, going 9-9 with a 2.79 ERA and 170 strikeouts in 168 innings for Double-A Pensacola and then posting a 2.63 ERA in two starts and four relief appearances for the Reds in September. His stuff is fringy, and it still seems like a long shot that he'll have a significant major league career. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 2:06 pm

  • Tigers sign Niko Goodrum to minors contract
Tigers signed INF/OF Niko Goodrum to a minor league contract.

Advice: Goodrum was outrighted off the Twins' 40-man roster earlier this month. The versatile 25-year-old spent the large majority of the 2017 season at Triple-A Rochester, where he hit .265/.309/.425 with 13 home runs and 11 stolen bases in 127 games. He joins a rebuilding club in Detroit, which could allow him a real opportunity at the major league level. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 12:54 pm

  • White Sox acquire Thyago Vieira from SEA
White Sox acquired RHP Thyago Vieira from the Mariners for international slot money.

Advice: Vieira is a hard-throwing relief prospect whose fastball has been clocked as high as 103 mph. He made his major league debut with Seattle in 2017, throwing a flawless ninth inning at the end of a blowout loss to the Orioles. It's a nice pickup for Chicago. The 24-year-old right-hander will compete for a spot in the Opening Day bullpen next spring in White Sox camp. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 9:07 am
  • Cubs looking at FA reliever Brandon Morrow
According to Patrick Mooney of NBC Sports Chicago, the Cubs have identified free agent reliever Brandon Morrow as an offseason target.

Advice: Morrow put up a stellar 2.06 ERA and 50/9 K/BB ratio over 43 2/3 regular-season innings for the Dodgers and then shut down the Cubs in the National League Championship Series. Mooney says the Cubs "are also expected to monitor" the market for free agent Addison Reed as they look for new late-inning relief options. The asking price on Orioles closer Zach Britton is said to be "too high." Rotoworld.com Thursday, 8:54 am

  • NYY interested in Rangers' Jurickson Profar
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees are interested in acquiring Jurickson Profar from the Rangers.

Advice: There is no obvious short-term or even long-term spot for Profar in the Bronx, but Sherman says the Yankees "would be willing to take on a single player with upside and pedigree in exchange for multiple players who are crowding their deep 40-man roster." Profar, once considered the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball, has batted just .229/.309/.329 in 206 career games at the major league level. A change of scenery would probably do him some good. There is also said to be interest from the Reds and Padres. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:45 am

  • Braves' IFA punishment likely to be severe
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic writes that the Braves' punishment for their alleged international free agent transgressions will likely be severe.

Advice: Rosenthal mentions that the Braves will probably receive a "substantial" fine, restrictions in their allocated finances for future signings, and the possibility that some prospects they signed out of Latin America could be turned back into free agents. This includes 17-year-old shortstop Kevin Maitan, the crown jewel of the 2016 international class. Maitan is said to have made a verbal agreement with Atlanta before the official signing period, which is against the rules. There's still no firm date as to when Manfred will announce his findings and the subsequent penalties. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 7:11 pm

  • Angels tops on Moustakas wish list
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick was told by a source that the Angels are at the top of Mike Moustakas wish list.

Advice: The feeling might not be totally mutual and some other team could decide to offer Moustakas more money, but Yunel Escobar is no longer under contract and the Angels would likely want to upgrade the production at third base either way. Crasnick also mentions that the Angels could just go with Luis Valbuena at third base and look to upgrade at second base, but Valbuena struggled to a .199 batting average and .294 on-base percentage in 2017. • O's showing interest in SP Tyler Chatwood
According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Orioles are showing interest in free agent starter Tyler Chatwood.

Advice: Chatwood might not be the sexiest name on this free agent market, but when you consider park factors (specifically the Coors Field effect) his numbers rank right up there with some of the available second-tier starters. The 27-year-old right-hander is also younger than many of the other guys out there. Baltimore badly needs rotation help and will probably be looking for it on a variety of fronts. • Report: Rays have interest in Jose Bautista
Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Rays have expressed interest in free agent Jose Bautista.

Advice: This comes on the heels of a report that Bautista is willing to play any position next season, from the corner infield spots to the corner outfield spots to designated hitter. That suits the Rays, who like to move guys around and take advantage of platoon splits. Bautista batted just .203/.308/.366 over 686 plate appearances this past season for the Blue Jays, but he still managed 23 home runs and 65 RBI. He should come pretty cheap, which also suits the Rays. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 11:43 am

  • Jose Bautista open to playing any position
Jose Bautista's agent, Jay Alou, said his client is willing to play any position next season.

Advice: That would include the corner infield spots, the corner outfield spots, and DH. "He’s never said no to a manager," Alou told Jon Morosi of MLB Network. Bautista batted just .203/.308/.366 over 686 plate appearances this past season for the Blue Jays, who made the easy decision to decline his $17 million club option for 2018. The 37-year-old should be able to find a major league deal this winter if he's willing to accept a reserve role. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 7:44 am

  • Alex Reyes (elbow) ready around May 1?
Cardinals president John Mozeliak suggested Tuesday that Alex Reyes (elbow) will likely make his 2018 debut around the beginning of May.

Advice: Reyes underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery last February and missed the entire 2017 season. "Maybe we think about his season beginning more like on May 1 and possibly rolling him in the bullpen," Mozeliak told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Depending on what we may accomplish this offseason." The young right-hander delivered an exceptional 1.57 ERA with 52 strikeouts over his first 46 major league innings in 2016. • Astros among teams in on Jonathan Lucroy
According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Astros are among the teams with interest in free agent catcher Jonathan Lucroy.

Advice: A deal with Lucroy would likely mean pushing Brian McCann and Evan Gattis into a platoon role at DH. Lucroy has been a better defensive catcher than both of them, but he actually struggled a bit in that department this past season and the 31-year-old also batted just .265 with a .716 OPS and only six home runs over 123 total games between the Rangers and Rockies. The 2017 World Series champs will probably be looking for a discount here. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 6:01 am

  • Profar doesn't have set role for 2018
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Tuesday that Jurickson Profar doesn't have a set role for 2018.

Advice: As of now, Profar is expected to be on the Opening Day roster next year, but that's only because he's out of options. The 24-year-old appeared in just 22 games in the majors this season and batted .287/.383/.428 with seven homers and 45 RBI over 87 games in Triple-A. The Rangers decided against a call-up in September, which ensures that he will remain under team control through 2020 as opposed to 2019. Profar has expressed his frustration with the situation, but barring a trade, the former top prospect figures to be a bench player for Texas going into next season. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 5:56 pm

  • Giants show interest in Brandon Morrow
John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants have "checked in on" Brandon Morrow.

Advice: They'll have competition, as Shea notes that "many teams are calling on Morrow," who posted a 2.06 ERA and 50/9 K/BB ratio over 43 2/3 relief innings for the Dodgers this season. The Giants are expected to go after at least one reliever this winter as they look to stabilize things ahead of closer Mark Melancon. Rotoworld.com Monday, 10:52 am

  • Royals 'seriously weighing' re-signing Moose
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Royals "are seriously weighing" re-signing Mike Moustakas.

Advice: Heyman writes that the Royals "now seem less inclined to do a rebuild" and will take their best shot at re-signing both Eric Hosmer and Moustakas, but they've "all but given up hope" of retaining Lorenzo Cain. The report adds that owner David Glass "seems to have come to the conclusion they team can remain competitive and doesn’t want to disappoint an enthusiastic fan base." Hosmer and Moustakas might be able to get $200+ million between them this offseason, so it's hard to imagine the Royals bringing back both of them. But, it does sound like they'll make an earnest effort. Hosmer has been seen as the free agent of theirs that they'd most like to retain, but he'll also cost the most. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 9:17 am

  • Patrick Kivlehan elects to become free agent
Patrick Kivlehan has elected free agency.

Advice: The 27-year-old outfielder hit .208/.304/.399 with nine homers, 26 RBI and a 61/22 K/BB ratio in 204 plate appearances with the Reds this season. He'll look for employment elsewhere and will likely have to settle for a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 5:39 am

Deck McGuire has elected free agency.

Advice: The 28-year-old pitched well, posting a 2.63 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 11/2 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings for the Reds in 2017. It's a bit curious, given their utter lack of quality pitching depth, that the Reds couldn't find a spot for him on the 40-man roster. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 5:37 am

  • Brandon Morrow hopes to remain with Dodgers
Brandon Morrow told MLB Network Radio on Thursday that he'd like to remain with the Dodgers as a free agent.

Advice: Morrow qualified the statement with an "all things being equal," suggesting that he wants to get out there and get the biggest deal he can. Of course, the Dodgers have the flexibility to be generous. One imagines they'll make a significant bid to keep him. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 1:44 pm
