• Shuts down Tampa
Rea (3-0) earned the win Wednesday over Tampa Bay, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out five over six scoreless innings.

Advice: It was a strong bounce-back effort from Rea after he allowed five runs on three homers against the Yankees in his last outing. Overall, it's been a strong start to the year for the 33-year-old right-hander. Rea's held opponents to one run or fewer in four of his six starts, lowering his ERA to 2.67 with a 1.22 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB over 33.2 innings. Rea's currently on track for a road matchup with Kansas City in his next outing. Rotowire.com 46 minutes ago

  • Giants option Landen Roupp back to Triple-A
Giants optioned RHP Landen Roupp to Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Roupp, 25, has already appeared in 10 games for the Giants this season — posting a 5.27 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and a 12/8 K/BB ratio across 13 2/3 innings. It shouldn’t take long for him to get another shot at pitching out of the Giants’ bullpen. Daulton Jefferies was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move on Wednesday. • Kenta Maeda fans six, gets first victory
Kenta Maeda limited the Cardinals to one run in six innings and struck out five in the Tigers’ 4-1 victory Wednesday.

Advice: It’s his first win in six tries this season. Pitching with a couple of extra days of rest, Maeda had a little more velocity today, topping out at 91.6 mph, and he wound up with a nice 34% CSW in the 79-pitch outing. He’ll pitch in Cleveland next time out, making him a mediocre mixed-league play. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

  • Miles Mikolas surrenders three runs in loss
Miles Mikolas yielded three runs in six innings Wednesday in a loss to the Tigers.

Advice: Mikolas isn’t going to win many games by himself, and the run support isn’t there right now when he turns in an outing like this. The Cardinals have scored a total of 18 runs in the seven games he’s started this year. Mikolas is 2-4 with a 5.68 ERA. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

  • Slated for rehab start
Hendricks (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Tennessee on Thursday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Hendricks landed on the 15-day injured list last week with a lower-back strain but is ready to test things out in a game setting. He could potentially need just the one rehab start before returning, although given his 12.00 ERA and 2.10 WHIP over five outings before going on the IL, much figures to depend on how Hendricks pitches. • Quality start in loss
Mikolas (2-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Tigers, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Most of the damage against Mikolas came early -- Colt Keith opened the scoring with an RBI double in the second inning before Matt Vierling extended Detroit's lead to 3-0 with a two-run homer in the third. The 35-year-old Mikolas held the Tigers off the board in his final three frames to earn a quality start, but the Cardinals couldn't climb out of the early hole, sticking the right-hander with the loss. Mikolas has been better after a rough start to the year, allowing five runs over 11.2 innings in his last two starts. His ERA now sits at 5.68 with a 1.39 WHIP and 29:7 K:BB across seven starts (38 innings). Mikolas is slated for a home matchup with the Mets in his next outing. Rotowire.com Today, 12:56 pm

  • Sharp against Cards
Maeda (1-1) earned the win Wednesday against St. Louis, allowing one run on four hits over six innings. He struck out five.

Advice: A Willson Contreras solo home run in the fourth inning was the lone mark against Maeda on Tuesday as the veteran right-hander cruised to his first win with the Tigers. After a brutal start to the year, Maeda's now allowed just one run on seven hits and no walks in his last two outings (11 innings). He's lowered his ERA to 5.02 with a 1.22 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB across six starts this season. Maeda will look to keep his momentum going in his next outing, currently lined up for early next week in Cleveland. Rotowire.com Today, 12:48 pm

  • Heading out on rehab assignment
Alexander (ribs) threw live batting practice to Miguel Andujar (knee) on Tuesday and is now set to join Single-A Stockton to begin a rehab assignment Friday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Alexander cleared his final hurdle to a return to the mound with Tuesday's activity, and when he does debut for the Ports, it will be his first game action since a March 6 Cactus League appearance against the Angels. Given the amount of time he's been sidelined, Alexander figures to need a fairly lengthy rehab assignment, even though he'll likely be utilized for no more than two innings per appearance once he's with the big-league club. • Dominant for third win Tuesday
Spence (3-1) got the win against the Pirates on Tuesday, firing three scoreless, one-hit innings during which he recorded two strikeouts.

Advice: Spence got the fifth-inning call after starter Alex Wood labored to the tune of 93 pitches over four frames. As has become increasingly customary, Spence delivered an impressive multi-inning effort, his third three-inning scoreless outing over his last four appearances. Spence now has victories in back-to-back appearances as well and sports a 2.84 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB across his eight trips to the mound. Rotowire.com Today, 11:50 am
