      Jordan Hicks gave up three runs in five innings while striking out seven against the Cubs on Thursday, but he didn’t factor into the decision.

      Advice: All three runs were given up in the third, as he gave up a two-run homer to Nico Hoerner and an RBI triple to Seiya Suzuki. The right-hander was strong outside of that frame while showing off his swing-and-miss stuff.       Kyle Tucker (shin) progressed to taking 30 swings off a batting tee earlier this week.

      Advice: Tucker is close to resuming running again after landing on the injured list earlier this month with a right shin contusion. It’s a positive sign that he’s progressed to taking some swings again.       Manager Bud Black said Tuesday that Diaz (calf) will be out for at least another week, MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Diaz has resumed baseball activities but is not sprinting at full speed and is still experiencing some soreness. The Rockies have stressed the importance of Diaz returning at full strength, so his absence could extend into the middle of July.       Caballero went 3-for-3 with a run scored Wednesday against the Mariners.

      Advice: He looked to be the odd man out when Taylor Walls returned from the injured list, but Caballero has started in three straight games and four of the Rays' last five games. In part, that's because Brandon Lowe (toe) has been sidelined, though the Rays have also played Caballero at third base and shortstop during his recent uptick in playing time.       Alvarez went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, three total runs and three total RBI in a 12-2 victory versus the Yankees on Wednesday.

      Advice: Alvarez touched up Yankees starter Luis Gil for a two-run homer in the third inning and added a run-scoring double in the fifth. The catcher also singled for his third three-hit performance during his current nine-game hitting streak. Alvarez has been scorching during that stretch, batting .516 (16-for-31) with three home runs, nine RBI and a 7:7 BB:K. His slash line is up to an impressive .313/.383/.521 on the campaign.       Francisco Álvarez went 3-for-3 with a home run, double, walk, three runs scored, and three RBI in the Mets’ 12-2 win over the Yankees.

      Advice: It’s very easy to forget that Álvarez is only 22-years-old. It’s even easier to forget he just missed nearly two months with a torn ligament in his left thumb.       Advice: Cowser belted his 10th home run of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Guardians, but he nonetheless finds himself on the bench for the second time during the three-game series. Both of those absences came against right-handed pitchers, so the lefty-hitting Cowser could be in danger of losing out on a regular spot in the outfield to fellow lefty hitter Heston Kjerstad, who will make his second start of the series following his call-up from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.       Even though he homered Tuesday, Colton Cowser is on the bench in favor of Heston Kjerstad on Wednesday.

      Advice: This hardly seems fair to Cowser. A left-handed hitter, he’s now been on the bench the last two times the Orioles have faced a righty and started both games against lefties, even though he has perfectly normal splits (.769 OPS versus righties, .679 OPS against lefties).       Connor Joe is in the Pirates lineup Wednesday for the first time in five games.

      Advice: Joe was playing regularly against righties last month, but a slump changed that, and since the Pirates have been in a stretch in which they’ve faced righties in 17 of 19 games, he hasn’t had a big role.
