• Strikes out seven in no-decision
Rodriguez did not factor into the decision Friday against San Diego, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over four innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: Rodriguez flashed his swing-and-miss stuff for the second straight start, striking out seven and generating 11 whiffs in his short outing. The 27-year-old rookie sports a 2.35 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB in his first 7.2 innings. Rodriguez has pitched well enough to likely maintain his rotation spot for another start, scheduled to be on the road against the Royals. Rotowire.com 3 minutes ago
  • Justin Verlander bests Nationals in 2024 debut
Justin Verlander beat the Nationals in his season debut Friday, pitching six innings of two-run ball in the Astros’ 5-3 victory.

Advice: Verlander topped out at 95.0 mph tonight and got just four missed swings, but he induced plenty of soft contact and the one homer he allowed, a 402-foot shot to center from Riley Adams, would have exited only four ballparks, according to Statcast. We’ll chalk this up as an encouraging first start back. Verlander is hardly a lock to remain healthy going forward, but he ought to be viewed as a top-30 SP now that he’s back. • Josh Hader gets second save for Astros
Josh Hader notched his second save despite allowing a run in the ninth against the Nationals on Friday.

Advice: It was the ninth earned run allowed by Hader in 9 2/3 innings. Last year, he allowed a total of eight earned runs in 56 1/3 innings. He also allowed just eight runs total in 58 2/3 innings in 2021. Obviously, this year isn’t going to compare. Still, there’s no reason to be particularly down on him going forward. • MacKenzie Gore gives up three runs to Astros
MacKenzie Gore was lifted after allowing three runs in four innings Friday against the Astros.

Advice: All of the runs scored in the second, an inning that included three soft hits and a pair of harder doubles. Gore struck out four and walked one. Obviously, it was far from his best outing, but with a little more luck, he might have allowed just one run in the second. The loss leaves him 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago

  • Matt Waldron gives up five in loss to Jays
Matt Waldron gave up five runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Blue Jays on Friday.

Advice: Waldron walked just one, but he also struck out just two hitters while throwing 58-of-96 pitches for strikes. The right-hander had been very effective in his previous two outings while allowing just two runs — only one earned — over 10 innings, but Toronto was able to get to him for a run in the first and four more in the second. Waldron will try and rebound next week, but it’s worth noting that start comes against the Rockies in Colorado. Rotoworld 42 minutes ago

  • Out with elbow strain
Kent was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Columbus on Friday due to a right elbow strain.

Advice: Kent presumably suffered the injury during his last appearance April 14, when he delivered a scoreless inning against Louisville. The right-hander will be out for at least the next week, but there's a decent chance he misses more time since it's an elbow injury. Rotowire.com Today, 9:10 pm

  • Walks four in no-decision
Gibson yielded a run on three hits and four walks over six innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out three in the loss to Milwaukee.

Advice: Gibson was tagged with a run in the third inning but otherwise didn't face much trouble in the quality start. He was in line for a tough-luck loss before the Cardinals pushed the game to extra innings. After earning a win in his Cardinals debut, Gibson was hammered for 11 runs over his last two starts. Friday's outing lowered his ERA to 5.04 with a 14:10 K:BB through 25 frames. Gibson is currently projected to face Arizona at home next week. Rotowire.com Today, 8:59 pm

  • Fires six shutout innings
Peralta allowed four hits and two walks over six scoreless frames in a no-decision Friday. He struck out seven in the win over St. Louis.

Advice: Peralta was in line for his third win of the year before the Cardinals tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. The 27-year-old has been terrific to begin the 2024 campaign, registering a 1.90 ERA with a 33:4 K:BB over 23.2 frames. He's forced double-digit whiffs in each of his four starts this season, including 13 on Friday. Peralta is lined up to start in Pittsburgh next week. Rotowire.com Today, 8:53 pm

  • Picks up first save
Milner walked one and struck out two batters in one inning Friday. He earned a save against the Cardinals.

Advice: Milner took the mound with a 2-1 lead in the 10th inning and finished off the contest despite facing a first-and-third threat. It was the 33-year-old's first career MLB save. He's produced a 7:3 K:BB with a 4.15 ERA through 8.2 innings this season,. Milner still appears to be outside the Brewers' main closer committee at this time. Rotowire.com Today, 8:48 pm
