    • Plays defense in second rehab game
Polanco (hamstring) started at second base in High-A Everett's win over Eugene on Sunday and went 0-for-1 with two walks before being replaced defensively in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Advice: Polanco was able to take another step with his time on the field, even if it was relatively brief. The veteran has reached safely in each of his first two rehab games, and he's now poised to shift his assignment to Triple-A Tacoma when the Rainiers resume play Tuesday. Rotowire.com Today, 9:38 am

    • Rafael Devers plates two as Red Sox top Yankees
Rafael Devers went 1-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs on Sunday night as the Red Sox triumphed over the Yankees.

Advice: Devers delivered a sacrifice fly off of Marcus Stroman in the fourth inning that extended the Red Sox’ early lead to 4-1. He then added a valuable insurance run in the seventh with an RBI single that plated Jarren Duran to make it a 5-3 game. Devers then raced around to score on Connor Wong’s two-run triple. He’s having another solid season at the dish, slashing .284/.378/.550 with 13 homers, 36 RBI and one stolen base. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:19 pm

    • Could start Wednesday or Thursday
Astros general manager Dana Brown said Sunday that Verlander (neck) could pitch either Wednesday or Thursday against the White Sox in Houston, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Manager Joe Espada suggested earlier in the day that Verlander could rejoin the rotation for the Chicago series, and Brown's comments help further narrow down a potential return date for the 41-year-old righty. Verlander was unable to make his scheduled start Saturday versus the Tigers after experiencing neck discomfort during his bullpen session Wednesday, prompting the Astros to push both Spencer Arrighetti and Ronel Blanco ahead in the pitching schedule. The extra rest appears to have done Verlander some good, as he was able to play catch prior to Sunday's series finale with Detroit. He'll likely try to throw another bullpen session Monday or Tuesday before the Astros lock him for a start against the White Sox. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:18 pm

    • Adames slugs three-run home run in win Sunday
Willy Adames went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run against the Reds on Sunday.

Advice: Adames’ home run was his 12th of the season. The three-run shot gave Milwaukee a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning. Adames is only hitting .244 this season, but has 51 RBI hitting fourth for the Brewers. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:21 pm

    • Hitting bench Sunday
Garver is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.

Advice: Garver had started each of the past five games at either designated hitter or catcher, going just 2-for-18 but drawing seven walks over that stretch. The 33-year-old's .646 OPS still represents a more than 200-point downturn from his 2023 mark with the Rangers (.870), but Garver still looks like he'll play frequently against left-handed pitching and fairly regularly against right-handed pitching. • Taking seat Sunday
Hoskins is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

Advice: He'll get a breather for the day game after he started in the first two games of the series while going 0-for-8 with five strikeouts. Jake Bauers will fill in for Hoskins at first base. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:05 am

    • Plays catch Sunday
Verlander (neck) played catch Sunday, and manager Joe Espada has left the door open for the right-hander to return to Houston's rotation this week against the White Sox, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Verlander already seems to be feeling better after he was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday due to neck discomfort. If he responds well in the coming days, the three-time Cy Young Award winner could return for a prime matchup in Chicago, though Espada said Verlander's next start is still up in the air. Ronel Blanco will get the start Sunday against Detroit after Spencer Arrighetti was lit up for seven runs in place of Verlander in the second game of the series. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:37 am

    • Justin Verlander (neck) could return vs. White Sox
Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters that Justin Verlander (neck) could return for the upcoming series against the White Sox.

Advice: The Astros won’t announce their rotation for the upcoming games against Chicago just yet, largely (entirely) because the status of Verlander is up in the air. The future Hall of Famer was scratched from Saturday’s start against Detroit with discomfort in his neck, and he hasn’t been particularly effective when on the mound. He was able to play catch Sunday, so while it does sound like a trip to the injured list can be avoided. There’s just no guarantee at this point. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:13 am

    • On bench for matinee
Gelof is not in the lineup for the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Twins.

Advice: Gelof will get an extended breather of sorts, having also sat out Saturday, but he will likely be back in there to face Chris Paddack in the nightcap. After breaking out to the tune of an .841 OPS, 14 homers and 14 steals in just 69 games last season, Gelof has struggled to a .558 OPS, five homers and seven steals through 52 games in 2024.
