  • Chase d'Arnaud plates two in win on Sunday
Chase d'Arnaud went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs on Sunday as the Padres topped the Nationals.

Advice: Drawing a start at shortstop in this one, d'Arnaud delivered a two-run single in the fifth inning that increased the Padres' advantage to 5-2. He's now hitting .350/.409/.400 in his limited action this season. Yesterday, 6:02 pm

  • Javier Baez cranks solo home run in defeat
Javier Baez went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Baez socked a solo home run off of an unusually unsettled Clayton Kershaw in the fourth inning. The bomb was his eighth of the season. He has picked up multiple hits in three of his last eight games and is now slashing .268/.299/.500 overall. Yesterday, 4:44 pm
  • Brandon Crawford drives in three vs. Braves
Brandon Crawford went 1-for-4 with a two-run single and three total RBI in Sunday's win over the Braves.

Advice: Crawford drove in his first run via an RBI ground out in the first inning, then later came through in the very next inning with a two-run single to cap off a four-run frame. He has notched hits in eight of his last 10 games and is slashing .266/.297/.424 with a modest three homers and 16 RBI across 139 at-bats this season. Yesterday, 4:03 pm
  • Eduardo Nunez scores twice against Braves
Eduardo Nunez went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Braves.

Advice: Nunez picked up an RBI single off R.A. Dickey in the second inning. The 29-year-old third baseman has been hot of late, collecting 20 hits in 55 at-bats in his last 14 games. For the season as a whole, he is slashing .283/.306/.370 with two homers, 17 RBI, 21 runs scored and 13 steals over the course of 48 games played. Yesterday, 3:57 pm
  • Garcia socks solo home run in loss to Rockies
Greg Garcia went 1-for-4 with a long solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.

Advice: Garcia came through with a solo home run off German Marquez with one out in the sixth inning to draw the Cardinals within 4-2. It was an absolute monster shot, traveling an estimated 462 feet to right. The Rockies managed to hang onto the lead through to the end of the contest, though. In 70 at-bats, the 27-year-old infielder is hitting .261/.370/.362 with one homer and three RBI. Even with the ball launched into orbit off his bat on Sunday, there is no fantasy intrigue here. • Jedd Gyroko cracks solo homer in loss to COL
Jedd Gyorko went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.

Advice: Gyorko slugged a solo homer off German Marquez to lead off the sixth inning. He is now up to eight home runs on the season and has driven in 21 runs in 41 games played. Gyorko owns a .322/.377/.570 batting line in that space and has far outplayed his career .244/.302/.429 triple-slash to this point. Yesterday, 3:15 pm

  • Andrew Romine hits RBI triple against CWS
Andrew Romine went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple in Sunday's loss to the White Sox.

Advice: Romine picked up an RBI triple against Miguel Gonzalez in the eighth inning. It was his second three-bagger of the season and bumped his RBI total to 12. While he has turned in multi-hit performances in two of his last three games, he is still hitting an uninspiring .238/.316/.369 over the course of 122 at-bats. Yesterday, 2:39 pm

  • Marwin Gonzalez notches two-run double in win
Marwin Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a two-run double in Sunday's win over the Orioles.

Advice: The Astros trailed 3-0 entering the bottom of the second inning before Gonzalez helped to jump start a six-run frame via a two-run double off Alec Asher. The two-bagger was his sixth of the season and he now boasts a smooth .299/.394/.632 triple-slash with 11 homers and 30 RBI over the course of 52 games played. His has been one of the most surprising offensive starts in all of baseball this season. Yesterday, 2:27 pm

  • Escobar goes 0-for-4 in loss Sunday
Alcides Escobar finished 0-for-4 in the Royals' loss to the Indians on Sunday.

Advice: Escobar is now batting just .172/.201/.226 in 49 games this season, and yet he again batted leadoff for manager Ned Yost on Sunday. The speedy shortstop has also yet to steal a base in 2017. Yesterday, 1:14 pm
  • Andrus goes 3-for-5 with SB, two runs scored
Elvis Andrus went 3-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, and two runs scored Sunday in the Rangers' 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays.

Advice: The stolen base was his 10th of the season and he's sporting a decent .278/.321/.434 batting line with 27 runs scored in 50 games this season for the Rangers. Andrus batted second on Sunday for the 24th time in 2017. It has become his regular lineup spot. Yesterday, 1:10 pm
  • Jonathan Villar moved down to No. 7 spot
Jonathan Villar is batting seventh for the Brewers on Sunday.

Advice: Villar made a start in the No. 3 spot a little over a week ago, but that was the only other time he's hit anywhere other than leadoff. The 26-year-old is currently in a 6-for-36 slide at the dish that has his season line down to .213/.285/.330. Villar has been woeful against lefties this season (.514 OPS) and the Brewers are facing southpaw Patrick Corbin, so it's possible Villar will be back in the leadoff spot Monday when they go up against righty Robert Gsellman. Keon Broxton is batting leadoff Sunday. This is obviously a situation to keep an eye on, as it could have a big fantasy impact on both players. Yesterday, 9:49 am
  • Francisco Lindor getting a rare day off Sun.
Francisco Lindor is not in the Indians' lineup Sunday.

Advice: It's a rare day off for the star shortstop. Erik Gonzalez is filling in. Yesterday, 8:45 am
  • Marco Hernandez (shoulder) moved to 60-day DL
Red Sox transferred INF Marco Hernandez from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Advice: The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Blaine Boyer. Hernandez is out for the season following shoulder surgery. Yesterday, 7:48 am

  • Eduardo Nunez's hitting streak snapped
Eduardo Nunez was hitless in three at-bats with a walk in Saturday's game against the Braves, snapping his hitting streak at 12 games.

Advice: Nunez entered the day with the second-longest hitting streak in the majors, but just couldn't punch one past the defense. He is still hitting .353 (18-for-51) with eight runs scored, two homers and nine RBI over the past 13 games. Nunez remains a solid play in most fantasy formats and DFS play. Yesterday, 12:33 am
  • Trevor Story starting to warm up
Trevor Story went 1-for-4 in Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Story has hit safely in each of his past four games since coming off the 10-day disabled list. It isn't much, but he is 4-for-14 (.286) with two doubles, a homer and two RBI during the four-game run. He was a feel-good story in 2016, but so far he has been a big disappointment in 2017 with a dismal .192 batting average. Saturday, 11:55 pm
  • Lindor has double, homer in loss to Royals
Francisco Lindor went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in a loss to the Royals on Saturday.

Advice: Lindor took Royals starter Jason Vargas deep as the second batter the southpaw faced, his 11th homer of the season. He also attempted to start a rally in the ninth inning with a two-out double, but he was stranded on second base to end the game. Lindor quietly has a 12-game hitting streak going, leaving him with a .283/.346/.545 line, 11 homers, 24 RBI and 33 runs scored overall. Saturday, 5:55 pm
  • Escobar knocks two-run double against Tribe
Alcides Escobar had a two-run double and scored a run in a win over the Indians on Saturday.

Advice: Escobar came to the dish with the bases loaded in a tie game in the sixth inning, and he proceeded to swat a two-RBI double to give the Royals a lead they wouldn't relinquish. It was his only hit in five at-bats. Hits have been hard to come by for the 30-year-old, who has just 32 of them in 182 at-bats this season. That translates to a forgettable .176/.205/.231 line and, more noteworthy, the accomplished base-stealer has yet to swipe a bag in 2017. Saturday, 5:52 pm
  • Romine goes 2-for-4 with a walk vs White Sox
Andrew Romine went 2-for-4 and worked a walk during the first game of Saturday's doubleheader versus the White Sox.

Advice: His two singles represented half the hits his club could manage in the ballgame, so it is no surprise they failed to score. The veteran utility man has played every position except pitcher and catcher for the Tigers this year. He has a .228 batting average with two home runs, 18 runs scored and 11 RBI in 129 plate appearances. Saturday, 2:27 pm

  • Javier Baez getting a breather Saturday
Javier Baez is not in the Cubs' lineup Saturday against the Dodgers.

Advice: He's just getting a breather. Ian Happ will handle second base and fifth against Dodgers right-hander Brandon McCarthy. Baez has been red-hot at the plate, earning nine hits in his last 19 at-bats. Hopefully Saturday's absence won't ruin his momentum. Saturday, 1:40 pm
  • Eduardo Nunez has two hits in lineup return
Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) was in the starting lineup Friday against the Braves and he finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

Advice: He made it through the whole game and the stolen base was the best thing for fantasy owners to see, as he wouldn't have chanced stealing if his hamstring was giving him trouble. It appears safe to plug him back into the active fantasy lineup in all leagues allowing daily moves. Friday, 11:48 pm
  • Perez has two hits, RBI single in loss
Hernan Perez went 2-for-5 with an RBI single in Friday’s extra-inning loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Perez made the start in left field and batted third with Ryan Braun (calf) back on the disabled list. The 26-year-old was a valuable piece in fantasy leagues last year and is batting .274/.314/.479 with five home runs, 19 RBI, two steals, and 20 runs scored through 42 games this season. He’s in a great situation in this lineup, so he’s worth considering in mixed fantasy leagues as long as the playing time is there. Friday, 9:31 pm

  • Elvis Andrus swipes two bases in loss Friday
Elvis Andrus went 1-for-4 and stole a pair of bases in Friday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Advice: He also drew a walk in the ballgame. Andrus is enjoying one of his best seasons offensively, slashing .270/.315/.423 with six homers, 22 RBI and nine stolen bases. Friday, 7:51 pm
  • Jedd Gyorko picks up two-run double in loss
Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-4 with a two-run double in Thursday's loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Gyorko notched a two-run double against Kenta Maeda in the first inning, his ninth two-bagger of the season. The hit bumped his RBI total to an even 20. For the season as a whole, the 28-year-old third baseman is slashing .336/.384/.579. Thursday, 10:20 pm

  • Gonzalez launches 11th homer against Tigers
Marwin Gonzalez hit a two-run home run, his 11th of the season, in Thursday's win over the Tigers.

Advice: We keep waiting for Gonzalez to fall off, and he keeps defying everyone. On Thursday, he teed off against Tigers ace Justin Verlander, lifting a two-run shot over the right field wall for his only hit in three at-bats. To illustrate how out-of-character this is, Gonzalez's career high for homers is 13, set in 141 games last year. He's now at 11 dingers through 40 games this season. His durability will keep him on the field most days, and if he keeps hitting .282/.380/.627 he'll be in the lineup for a long, long time. Until he stops hitting, he's a fantasy asset for his position eligibility as much as his bat. Thursday, 9:49 pm

  • Andrus connects for homer in loss to Red Sox
Elvis Andrus hit his sixth home run of the year in a loss to the Red Sox on Thursday.

Advice: The solo shot was Andrus' only hit in four at-bats, as the Rangers struggled mightily against Red Sox starter Drew Pomeranz. The shortstop set a career high with eight homers in 2016, but he's already got six this year roughly one-third of the way through. The steadily consistent 28-year-old also has seven steals and a .270/.313/.427 line in 47 games to date. Thursday, 9:20 pm
  • Nunez (hamstring) hopes to play Friday
Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) is hoping to return Friday against the Braves.

Advice: He was scratched from Thursday's lineup due to a left hamstring injury but received treatment throughout the game and thinks he'll be good to go on Friday. Nunez has played all over the diamond this year but has seen most of his action in left field recently. Thursday, 4:21 pm
  • Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) scratched Thurs.
Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) has been scratched from the Giants' lineup Thursday.

Advice: Nunez tweaked his left hamstring on Wednesday night and the Giants want to play it safe. It doesn't sound like something that will require a lengthy absence. Christian Arroyo is starting at third base now in the matinee game against the Cubs. Thursday, 9:13 am
  • Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) playing Thursday
Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) is in the Giants' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Cubs.

Advice: He'll start at third base and bat sixth versus Cubs right-hander Eddie Butler. Nunez tweaked his right hamstring Wednesday but it was obviously nothing serious. Thursday, 9:01 am
  • Jedd Gyorko goes 3-for-4 in win
Jedd Gyorko finished 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Gyorko's surprising 30-homer season last year came with just a .243 average. This year, though, he's at .331 over 136 at-bats. There's no way he keeps that up, but he probably will make another run at 30 homers now that he's a regular. Wednesday, 10:09 pm

  • Eduardo Nunez tweaks hamstring in loss
Eduardo Nunez suffered a minor left hamstring tweak in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Nunez did not have to leave the game (he finished 2-for-4) and expects to play on Thursday. He has stolen 12 bases this season, but might not be quite as active on the basepaths over the next few days. Wednesday, 8:57 pm
  • Javy Baez at leadoff for CHC on Wednesday
Javier Baez is batting leadoff for the Cubs on Wednesday night against the Giants.

Advice: A nice reward for his hot May. Baez has slashed .318/.338/.636 with six home runs, 16 RBI, two stolen bases, and 13 runs scored in 19 games since the calendar flipped from April. Ben Zobrist is out of the Cubs' starting lineup on Wednesday against Giants lefty Matt Moore, as is Willson Contreras. Miguel Montero will catch. Wednesday, 12:09 pm
  • Jonathan Villar steals three bases Tuesday
Jonathan Villar had a two-RBI single and stole three bases in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Advice: Villar singled in two runs and stole two bases in the fifth inning and then stole another base after walking in the seventh. He's hitting just .220/.289/.345, but Villar is tied for fourth in baseball with his 12 steals and he's also swatted five home runs. Tuesday, 7:58 pm
  • Brandon Crawford drives in lone Giants run
Brandon Crawford drove in the Giants' only run in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs with an RBI double.

Advice: The Giants managed just four hits and no walks against Jon Lester, but they did scrape together a run in the fifth when Buster Posey and Crawford each doubled. Crawford has driven in just 14 runs so far this season to go along with a .267/.297/.442 batting line. Tuesday, 7:30 pm
  • Marco Hernandez to have shoulder surgery
Marco Hernandez is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left shoulder Friday.

Advice: And the subsequent rehab will take several months, likely stretching into the offseason. Hernandez injured his left shoulder during a May 3 game against the Orioles. Tuesday, 1:32 pm

  • Story not in COL lineup for first game off DL
Trevor Story is not in the Rockies' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Phillies.

Advice: Story was activated from the disabled list Tuesday afternoon after missing two weeks with a left shoulder strain, but he's on the bench versus Philadelphia right-hander Zach Eflin. Alexi Amarista will start at shortstop and bat seventh for the visiting Rockies. Story has posted a disappointing .180/.289/.396 batting line in 33 games this season. Tuesday, 12:56 pm
  • Rockies activate Trevor Story from DL
Rockies activated SS Trevor Story from the 10-day disabled list.

Advice: As indicated Rockies manager Bud Black, Story will return to finish out the series in Philadelphia. The 24-year-old was batting just .180/.289/.396 through 33 games prior to landing on the disabled list with a left shoulder strain earlier this month. The Rockies and fantasy owners will have to hope that the time away did him some good. Tuesday, 12:30 pm
  • Baez not in Tuesday's lineup vs. Giants
Javier Baez is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Giants.

Advice: Baez went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer on Monday, but he'll take a seat on Monday against right-hander Jhonny Cueto. Ben Zobrist will make the start at second base and bat leadoff while Kyle Schwarber will return to left field and bat second. Ian Happ is starting in center field and will bat fifth. Tuesday, 11:10 am
  • Story (shoulder) could be activated Tuesday
Trevor Story (shoulder) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Tuesday.

Advice: Rockies manager Bud Black passed along the news during an appearance on MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM. Story, out since May 11 with a left shoulder strain, went 3-for-11 (.273) with a homer over four games during his minor league rehab assignment. The 24-year-old was batting just .180/.289/.396 through 33 games prior to the injury, but the power has still been there and he obviously plays half of his games in a great park for offense. Tuesday, 8:21 am
  • Baez goes 3-for-4 with two-run HR in loss
Javier Baez finished 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in the Cubs' loss to the Giants on Monday.

Advice: Ben Zobrist was the only other Cubs batter to register multiple hits in this one. Baez struck his two-run shot off Giants starter Ty Blach in the bottom of the eighth, but the Cubs entered that inning trailing 6-0 and would ultimately fall 6-4. Baez is batting .264/.301/.496 with seven home runs and 21 RBI in 38 games this season for the defending World Series champions. Monday, 8:24 pm
  • Crawford slugs third home run in loss Sun.
Brandon Crawford drew a walk and hit a solo homer in the Giants' loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.

Advice: Crawford took Miguel Socolovich deep over the right field wall in the top of the eighth inning, but the Giants were already down big at that point. The shortstop is batting .274/.306/.451 with three home runs and 13 RBI in 31 games this season for San Francisco. May 21, 3:17 pm
  • Jonathan Villar doubles in loss to Cubs
Jonathan Villar went 3-for-4 with a double in Sunday's loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Villar managed his seventh double of the season against Jake Arrieta, but the Brewers' offense was largely stymied until the ninth inning, when they scored five runs. That late flurry could not prevent the 13-6 defeat. Even with his three hits on Sunday, Villar is still hitting just .220 through 44 games played and has struck out a whopping 55 times across 173 at-bats. May 21, 3:02 pm

  • Villar dropped to sixth in Brewers lineup
Jonathan Villar has been dropped to sixth in the Brewers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: After a breakthrough 2016 season, regression has hit Villar in a big way this year. He's hitting just .207/.272/.331 and leads the National League with 55 strikeouts. On the plus side from a fantasy perspective, he has hit five homers and swiped eight bases. May 20, 8:20 am
  • Eduardo Nunez delivers in Giants' win
Eduardo Nunez went 2-for-4 with a two-run double in the ninth to lead the Giants past the Cardinals 6-5 on Friday.

Advice: Nunez isn't known as an RBI guy, but he's driven in eight runs in his last five games after totaling seven in 35 games to open the year (even though he spent most of that time hitting sixth and seventh). He needs to be hitting at his absolute peak in order to help a team as a starting left fielder, but the Giants feel that they don't have any better options at the moment. He'll keep playing regularly and stealing bases at a pretty good clip. May 19, 11:05 pm
