• Adam Mazur surrenders three runs to Brewers
Adam Mazur was lifted after allowing three runs in 4 2/3 innings Thursday against the Brewers.

Advice: Mazur struck out three and walked three. The Padres are about to get Yu Darvish back, so Mazur seems likely to be sent down, perhaps prior to Friday’s game. He still might be interesting later this year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:17 pm

  • Jeremiah Estrada winds up with win after BS
Jeremiah Estrada took a blown save but ended up with a win after allowing two runs in the ninth Thursday against the Brewers.

Advice: In Estrada’s defense, he really should have Christian Yelich struck out to begin the ninth, which probably would have led to a scoreless frame. Instead, he allowed two runs after surrendering two runs on a walk to Yelich and two hits. It was quite curious that the Padres decided to use Estrada and avoid Robert Suarez tonight. Both had worked the previous two days, but Suarez threw fewer pitchers in those outings, had, unlike Estrada, gone four straight days without working previously and is the older of the two by eight years. If we were the Padres, we’d consider Estrada the more important reliever of the two going forward. Suarez, though, is in the second year of a five-year, $46 million contract. • Bryse Wilson gives up five runs to Padres
Bryse Wilson surrendered five runs in 4 2/3 innings Thursday against the Padres.

Advice: Wilson was supposed to lose this one, but the Padres let him off the hook in the top of the ninth, only to succumb in the bottom of the inning. The Brewers and everyone else know that Wilson belongs in middle relief, and the team might eventually get back to the point at which that is feasible. For now, though, he’ll stick in the rotation and face the Rangers next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:17 pm

  • Ryan Helsley secures MLB-leading 25th save
Ryan Helsley fired a scoreless ninth inning on Thursday against the Giants to record his major league-leading 25th save of the season.

Advice: Helsley was summoned to protect a narrow one-run lead at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama and made things interesting by issuing a leadoff walk to Trenton Brooks and surrendering a two-out single to Patrick Bailey, which put the potential tying run in scoring position. He managed to wriggle out of the jam by striking out Matt Chapman to extinguish the threat. The hard-throwing 29-year-old righty has converted 25 of 26 save chances this season to go along with a sparkling 2.45 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 38/13 K/BB ratio across 33 innings (33 appearances). Simply put, he’s been one of the best closers in baseball this year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:00 pm
  • Andre Pallante allows five runs, still gets win
Andre Pallante was charged with five runs over 5 1/3 innings on Thursday in a win over the Giants.

Advice: Pallante drew the starting assignment for Thursday’s contest at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama and gave the Cardinals some much-needed length in this outing, working into the sixth inning. He struck out five and also issued three walks. Of the seven hits he allowed, the costliest was a three-run shot to Heliot Ramos in the third inning, which accounted for most of the damage against him. He’ll take the ball on Wednesday against the Braves his next time out. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:55 pm
  • Cardinals call up Adam Kloffenstein on Thursday
Cardinals recalled RHP Adam Kloffenstein from Triple-A Memphis.

Advice: Kloffenstein provides St. Louis with some extra long relief depth behind Thursday’s starter Andre Pallante. The 23-year-old righty earns his first promotion to the majors after compiling a respectable 3.97 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 68/29 K/BB ratio over 77 innings (14 starts) this season for Triple-A Memphis. • Officially promoted
The Cardinals recalled Kloffenstein from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.

Advice: After putting up a 3.97 ERA and 1.13 WHP through 77 innings at Triple-A, Kloffenstein will now come up from the minors to give St. Louis another multi-inning relief option in its bullpen. He'll take the place of Chris Roycroft, who was optioned to Memphis in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:12 am
  • Adam Kloffenstein expected to join Cards Thursday
According to Katie Woo of The Athletic, the Cardinals plan to promote Adam Kloffenstein from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.

Advice: The 23-year-old right-hander has posted a 3.97 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 68/29 K/BB ratio over 77 innings in 14 starts at Triple-A Memphis this season. It’s unclear if he’ll actually get an opportunity to start with the Cardinals, or will function as a long man out of their bullpen while he’s up. Either way, he’s unlikely to make a major impact for fantasy purposes. Rotoworld Wednesday, 5:17 pm
  • Headed to majors
The Cardinals will recall Kloffenstein from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Kloffenstein has spent all season with Memphis, posting a 3.97 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through 77 innings across 14 starts. Although he has been used almost exclusively as a starter throughout his minor-league career, he will likely be used as a multi-inning reliever while with St. Louis. The 23-year-old righty will be making his MLB debut whenever he gets into a game. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:54 pm
