      Rafael Devers doubled twice, drove in Boston’s only two runs and walked Friday against the Twins.

      Brandon Marsh had a two-run single and a stolen base Friday as the Phillies edged the Giants 4-3.

      Advice: Marsh is still in a little rut that’s seen him go 3-for-19 with no extra-base hits and 10 strikeouts in his last six games. He got off to a fast start last year, only to cool off in May. We suspect that he’s a better player now than he was then, but he’s probably going to remain streaky with his strikeout tendencies.       Beeks struck out two and gave up a solo home run in two-thirds of an inning Friday, recording his first save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Pirates.

      Advice: With Justin Lawrence (paternity leave) away from the team, Rockies manager Bud Black called on Jake Bird to get the final out of the eighth inning and the first of the ninth, but the right-hander needed 25 pitches to do it and left a runner on base when he exited. Black then turned to Beeks to close things out, but the southpaw made things dicey by immediately serving up a two-run shot to Oneil Cruz before finally getting the job done. Lawrence should be back by the end of the weekend, and Beeks has never recorded more than two saves in a season in his career, but he does appear to have earned a spot in Colorado's high-leverage crew.     • Jalen Beeks records sixth career save for Rockies
      Despite giving up a homer in two-thirds of an inning, Jalen Beeks picked up his sixth career save Friday against the Pirates.

      Advice: The homer was a two-run shot from Oneil Cruz, plating one inherited runner. Beeks got the call tonight because Justin Lawrence is on paternity leave.       Manager Matt Quatraro said Friday that sending Marsh (elbow) on a rehab assignment before returning from the IL "would be a smart thing to do," Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

      Suzuki (oblique) took on-field batting practice Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro and LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune report.

      Advice: It's the first time he's taken BP since he suffered a right oblique strain April 14. Suzuki estimated that he's 80 percent recovered from the injury, and he could begin a rehab assignment next week if he continues trending in the right direction.       Parker (2-1) took the loss against Texas on Thursday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 5.1 innings.

      Advice: Parker had his least-effective outing through four big-league starts, giving up a season-high three runs while taking his first career loss. The southpaw still managed to keep Washington within striking distance, but the Nationals' offense failed to scratch against four Rangers pitchers.       Mitchell Parker allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings on Thursday in a loss to the Rangers.

      Advice: Parker got into trouble in the third inning when he gave up a trio of run-scoring hits, which accounted for all of the damage against him. He struck out five and only issued a pair of walks. The 24-year-old rookie right-hander has allowed three earned runs or fewer in four consecutive outings since getting the call to the majors back on April 15, but he’s struggled to work deep into contests.       MLP Pipeline’s Jonathan Mayo reports Paul Skenes will make his next start on Sunday for Triple-A Indianapolis.

      Advice: There was some social media buzz that Skenes could get the call this weekend to join Pittsburgh’s starting rotation, but that doesn’t appear to be in the cards. The 21-year-old top pitching prospect has reeled off six dominant outings at Triple-A Indianapolis to open the year, posting a surreal 0.39 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 41/6 K/BB ratio across 23 innings of work.
