• Red Sox ship Bobby Dalbec back to Triple-A
Red Sox optioned INF Bobby Dalbec to Triple-A Worcester.

Advice: Dalbec heads back to the minors to clear a spot on Boston’s roster to activate Vaughn Grissom for Friday’s series opener against the Twins. The 28-year-old batted .137 (7-for-51) with zero homers and two steals this season in 21 games. Rotoworld 7 minutes ago

  • Demotion coming
The Red Sox will option Dalbec to Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.

Advice: Dalbec no longer had a path to clear playing time after the Red Sox signed Dominic Smith to split time at first base with Garrett Cooper, so he will head to the minors to serve as an organizational depth piece. The 28-year-old has slashed just .137/.200/.176 across 56 plate appearances with Boston this season. Rotowire.com 9 minutes ago

  • Absent from lineup
Freeman is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Houston.

Advice: In a 1-for-14 stretch at the plate over his last four contests, Freeman will take a seat in the series finale. Gabriel Arias will occupy center field for the Guardians on Thursday. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

  • Nathan Eovaldi exits start due to groin tightness
Nathan Eovaldi was removed from Thursday’s start against the Nationals due to right groin tightness.

Advice: Eovaldi will continue to undergo further evaluation after exiting Thursday afternoon’s showdown with a trainer at 92 pitches through 5 2/3 scoreless frames. The 34-year-old righty finished with eight strikeouts and only issued a pair of walks. He was unlikely to work much further into the contest, but the fact that he’s dealing with a groin issue certainly puts his next start in serious jeopardy. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago
  • Enters no contest plea
Urias pleaded no contest Wednesday to a misdemeanor domestic battery charge related to his Sept. 3 arrest in Los Angeles on suspicion of domestic violence, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: As a result of the no contest plea, Urias had his four other misdemeanor charges stemming from the arrest dismissed. He was placed on 36 months of summary probation and ordered to complete 30 days of community labor, as well as a year-long domestic violence counseling course. Additionally, the 27-year-old left-hander must pay a domestic violence fund fee, not possess any weapons, not use any force or violence, pay restitution to the victim and abide by a protective order. Currently a free agent after his contract with the Dodgers expired following the 2023 season, Urias isn't yet facing discipline from Major League Baseball, though the league launched its own investigation into the Sept. 3 arrest that could be completed soon now that a resolution to Urias' legal situation has been reached. Urias has previously served a suspension related to MLB's domestic violence policy, as he was handed a 20-game ban in August 2019 for an incident that occurred earlier that year. • Twins option Caleb Boushley to Triple-A
Twins optioned RHP Caleb Boushley to Triple-A St. Paul.

Advice: Boushley heads back to the minors after a brief stint this week with the Twins. The 30-year-old righty didn’t get into a game and will continue to serve as extra organizational relief depth in the upper minors. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago
  • Exits with groin injury
Eovaldi was removed from his start Thursday against the Nationals with right groin tightness, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Eovaldi didn't look comfortable on the mound after making a pitch in the sixth inning, prompting a visit from the Rangers' training staff and his eventual removal. The severity of the veteran righty's injury remains unknown, but the team may provide more information after Thursday's game. Eovaldi threw 5.1 shutout innings while striking out eight batters before his early exit. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago
  • White Sox outright Deivi García to Triple-A
White Sox sent RHP Deivi García outright to Triple-A Charlotte.

Advice: García was universally-regarded as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball just a few years ago when he was with the Yankees, but it’s never really come together for him at the highest level. The 24-year-old righty will presumably stick around with Chicago as extra organizational pitching depth after passing through waivers unclaimed. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago
  • Braxton Garrett makes likely final rehab start
Braxton Garrett (shoulder) fired five shutout innings on Wednesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: Garrett finished with three strikeouts, built up his pitch count to 61 (33 strikes) and averaged 90.7 mph in his likely final tune-up before rejoining Miami’s starting rotation mix for his season debut. The 26-year-old hurler has been out since spring training due to a left shoulder impingement and a setback after experiencing a “dead arm” phase. He’ll likely take the ball on Monday against the Dodgers in his season debut, barring an unexpected development. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago
