With Vaughn Grissom having recovered from the hamstring strain that cost him the first month-plus of the season and Ceddanne Rafaela still entrenched at shortstop, Hamilton has no clear path to consistent playing time.     Abbott (1-4) took the loss to the Orioles on Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits over five innings. He struck out eight without issuing a walk.

    Advice: He retired eight straight batters at one point while showing great depth with his breaking pitches, but Jorge Mateo and Adley Rutschman touched him up for solo shots in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, and that was enough to send Abbott to his fourth loss in five decisions. The lefty has now allowed multiple homers in three of his last four outings, but he still has a highly respectable 3.32 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 38 innings this season.     Advice: Home plate umpire Ryan Blakney was generous with strike calls on pitches off the plate all day, and Judge's muttering as he walked back to the dugout after getting rung up for a second time got him tossed. Per Joe Trezza of MLB.com, it was the first ejection of Judge's career -- at any level of baseball. He still made an impact in the win, and while the 32-year-old slugger has had a slow start to the season, he's produced three multi-hit performances, two homers and six RBI in his last eight games.     Rogers (0-5) took a loss Saturday in Oakland, allowing eight runs on eight hits and three walks over just 2.1 innings.

    Advice: Rogers gave up a couple runs in the second inning and then the wheels really came off in the third, as he was tagged for six runs during what turned out to be a 10-run inning for the Athletics. It's a disastrous performance in what should have been a favorable matchup for the left-hander. Rogers will carry a 6.15 ERA into his next start, which is expected to be against the Phillies at home.     Cano allowed one walk but retired the final two batters of Saturday's game against the Reds to earn his first save of the season.

    Advice: Craig Kimbrel was pulled from the game after allowing two hits and a walk in the bottom of the ninth. Cano entered and walked the first batter he faced to load the bases, but the 30-year-old ultimately worked his way out of it with a strikeout and a flyout. Kimbrel earned the save in Friday's game, but Kimbrel had back-to-back blown saves to end April and has been nursing a back issue recently.     Advice: With a runner on in the third inning, Rooker took Trevor Rogers deep for a two-run homer. The A’s would bat around the order, adding five more runs before Rooker blasted a three-run shot for his second of the inning in Oakland’s offensive explosion. Schmidt has been remarkably consistent to begin the season, allowing between one and three runs in every start and completing five innings in six of seven outings, although he has yet to last a full six frames.
