    • Shane Baz takes loss to Rangers in 2024 debut
Shane Baz took a loss after allowing three runs in six innings Friday against the Rangers in his 2024 debut.

Advice: Baz allowed four singles and one double in the third, resulting in all three runs. He gave up just two additional hits and wound up with six strikeouts and one walk in the quality start. Unfortunately, quality starts aren’t enough for Rays pitchers this season, as the offense has proven incapable of scoring consistently. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:22 pm
    • Loses despite quality start
Baz (0-1) allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings Friday, striking out six and taking the loss against the Rangers.

Advice: Making his first MLB appearance since July 10, 2022, Baz delivered a quality start on 92 pitches. He looked impressive outside of an ugly three-run third inning. His fastball averaged 96.2 mph and topped out at 99.1. Baz posted a 4.12 ERA with a 44:23 K:BB across 39.1 frames with Triple-A Durham prior to his promotion. The 25-year-old's spot in the rotation could be in question once Jeffrey Springs (elbow) is ready to return. As of now, Baz is in line to face the Yankees at home next week. • Shane Baz promoted for 2024 debut on Friday
Rays recalled RHP Shane Baz from Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Finally, the 25-year-old right-hander will make his highly anticipated 2024 regular season debut on Friday evening against the Rangers. Baz made 10 starts at Triple-A Durham while building up his stamina, registering a 4.12 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and a 44/23 K/BB ratio across 39 1/3 innings of work. He’ll probably only go five innings in Friday’s start against the Rangers, so fantasy managers should temper expectations for a victory in his first start. He should deliver plenty of strikeouts though. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:53 pm
    • Officially recalled for start
The Rays recalled Baz from Triple-A Durham on Friday, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: He will start Friday in Texas against the Rangers, taking the rotation spot vacated by Aaron Civale, who was traded to the Brewers earlier this week. Baz will be making his first major-league start since July 2022, as he missed the entire 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The young right-hander had been heating up at Durham in June, collecting a 1.57 ERA and 35:10 K:BB across 23 innings. Baz will have a good shot to remain in the Rays rotation for the rest of the season and needs to be picked up in most fantasy leagues where he's still available. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:59 am
    • Keeps rolling for eighth win
Ober (8-4) picked up the win Thursday against Detroit, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: All three runs scored by the Tigers came with two outs in the second inning after strike three to Zach McKinstry got past Ryan Jeffers and allowed McKinstry to reach first and extend the inning. Still, Ober managed to generate a fourth outing with at least eight Ks, all of which have been quality starts. Through 94 innings this year, Ober owns a 4.12 ERA and a 100:23 K:BB. He's tentatively scheduled to face the White Sox in Chicago next time out. Rotowire.com Thursday, 9:12 pm

    • Goes seven innings in win
Webb (7-6) allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six over seven innings to earn the win over Atlanta on Thursday.

Advice: Webb gave up both runs on three hits and a sacrifice fly in the first inning, then settled in to produce a strong start by not allowing a runner past second base for the next six frames. He's gone seven innings in six of his last eight starts as he continues to be an innings-eater at the top of the Giants' rotation. For the season, Webb has a 3.09 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 103:27 K:BB over 119.1 innings through 19 starts. The right-hander is projected to make his next start at home versus the Blue Jays. • Webb allows two runs in win over Braves Thursday
Logan Webb allowed two runs in seven innings and got the win in the Giants’ 4-2 victory over the Braves on Thursday.

Advice: Webb gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out six. The win was his seventh of the year. Webb gave up an RBI double to Ozzie Albies in the first inning and Albies later scored on an Austin Riley sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 Braves. Then he held Atlanta scoreless for the next six innings. Webb has gone seven innings and allowed two runs in four of his last six starts. He’s been one of the most consistent pitchers in fantasy this year and has a 3.09 ERA. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face the Blue Jays at home next week.

    • Bailey Ober strikes out eight in win over Tigers
Bailey Ober worked six innings and allowed three runs — one earned — in a victory over the Tigers on Thursday.

Advice: Ober struck out eight and walked none. He has a 27/3 K/BB ratio in his last three starts and a 100/23 K/BB ratio in 94 innings for the year. The 4.12 ERA still isn’t great, but everything else is exactly what one would expect from him. He’ll face the White Sox next. Rotoworld Thursday, 1:31 pm

    • RHP Shane Baz to start on Friday
RHP Shane Baz will join the Rays’ rotation and start Friday’s game against the Rangers, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

Advice: Baz will take the rotation spot that opened up when the Rays dealt Aaron Civale to the Brewers. In Baz’ last five games with Triple-A Durham he has a 1.57 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 10.4 walk percentage, and 36.5 strikeout percentage in 23 innings. He should be rostered in any format where he’s available.
