• Excellent in seventh win
Nelson (7-6) earned the win Friday over the Cubs, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out nine.

Advice: It was an impressive showing out of the All-Star break from Nelson, who blanked the Cubs through his first five innings before allowing a lone run in the sixth while racking up a career-high nine strikeouts. The 26-year-old Nelson has been solid of late, holding opponents to three runs or fewer in each of his last four starts, posting a 2.22 ERA in that span (24.1 innings). Overall, his ERA sits at 4.78 this season with a 1.39 WHIP and 68:22 K:BB across 92.1 innings. Nelson's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Royals in his next outing. • On IL with lat injury
Manning was placed on the injured list at Triple-A Toledo due to a right lat strain.

Advice: Manning has been with Toledo since late May after making five starts with the Tigers early in the season. The 26-year-old has earned a 4.53 ERA across 59.2 innings with the Mud Hens and a timetable for his return has yet to be established. Manning likely won't see much, if any, MLB action in the final two-plus months of the regular season but could eat some innings once he's healthy if the Tigers decide to sell at the trade deadline. • Cody Poteet (triceps) throws lightly off of mound
Yankees’ right-hander Cody Poteet (triceps) threw lightly off of a mound on Friday without any issues.

Advice: The 29-year-old hurler expects to advance to a full bullpen session soon as he continues his recovery from a right triceps strain. Prior to landing on the injured list on June 18, Poteet had posted a stellar 2.14 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 13/7 K/BB ratio over 21 innings in four starts with the big-league club. • Matt Manning (lat) lands on injured list at AAA
Tigers right-hander Matt Manning landed on the injured list at Triple-A Toledo on Friday with a right lat strain.

Advice: It’s unclear at the moment how long the 26-year-old hurler will be sidelined for. For fantasy managers in deep redraft leagues who have been holding Manning in anticipation of Jack Flaherty getting dealt at the trade deadline, you can probably go ahead and cut bait now. • Next start pushed back
Quintana won't start as scheduled Saturday versus the Marlins due to an illness, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Manager Carlos Mendoza said Quintana is currently dealing with a fever, so he'll move back a few slots in the rotation and now projects to start Tuesday versus the Yankees, assuming he feels better by then. Luis Severino will now start on the mound Saturday, followed by Christian Scott on Sunday then David Peterson for Monday's series finale. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago

  • Ryne Nelson strikes out career-best nine in win
Ryne Nelson fanned a career-high nine while limiting the Cubs to one run in 5 2/3 innings in the Diamondbacks’ 5-2 victory Friday.

Advice: Nelson got some help from home plate umpire Roberto Ortiz on a couple of those strikeouts, but he definitely pitched well today. His previous high for strikeouts was eight, set against Chicago’s other team in June. His last six outings have seen him go 4-1 with a 3.29 ERA and a 35/5 K/BB in 41 innings. He still seems a little short of being a mixed-league option, but he’s definitely given the Diamondbacks a boost of late. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

  • Jose Quintana has start pushed back due to illness
Jose Quintana will have his scheduled start on Saturday pushed back due to illness.

Advice: The 35-year-old southpaw was scheduled to start the Mets’ second game coming out of the break, but he’s dealing with a fever so he’ll be pushed back at least a couple of days. Luis Severino will start in his place against the Marlins on Saturday. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

  • Paul Sewald works scoreless ninth for 14th save
Paul Sewald pitched around a pair of singles to pick up his 14th save with a scoreless ninth Friday against the Cubs.

Advice: Michael Busch and Seiya Suzuki both struck out while up as the tying runs in the ninth. Sewald has converted three saves and pitched four scoreless innings since a horrible week at the beginning of the month in which he gave up seven runs and took three blown saves. • Justin Steele surrenders five runs in defeat
Justin Steele was tagged for five runs in 4 2/3 innings by the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Advice: There goes the two-game win streak. It’s the fifth time this season that Steele has allowed as many as five runs. The other four all came in a five-start span in May and June, so hopefully that doesn’t repeat. He’d given up a total of 11 runs in his previous seven starts. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago
