• Straight-line running Tuesday
Urshela (hamstring) did some straight-line running drills Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Advice: It's a good sign that he's already doing some running just a few days after landing on the injured list with a right hamstring strain. Urshela will eventually progress to running the bases and could need a short rehab assignment before rejoining the Tigers. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago

  • Yankees send DJ LaMahieu on rehab assignment
Yankees sent DJ LaMahieu on a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset.

Advice: The team was targeting LaMahieu to make a rehab assignment tonight and it looks like they are right on schedule with the 35-year-old. LaMahieu has been recovering from a fractured foot he suffered in the spring and could be a nice boost for the Yankees’ offense who have scored zero runs in two of their past three games. It’s unclear when he’ll make his return to the active roster, but this is a step in the right direction for the veteran infielder. Rotoworld 48 minutes ago

  • Rehab assignment will be brief
LeMahieu (foot) has said he expects to play "less than five" rehab games before being activated, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Advice: LeMahieu is beginning a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. Assuming the Yankees concur with the infielder's assessment of how many rehab games he will require, it sounds like he could be back as soon as the weekend series in Milwaukee. LeMahieu has been out all season with a a bone bruise and non-displaced fracture in his right foot. Oswaldo Cabrera's production has slowed since a hot start, so LeMahieu should quickly regain his role as the primary third baseman. Rotowire.com Today, 10:13 am

  • Lifts second homer
Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Goldschmidt's slow start has been the cause of much consternation for St. Louis, and it's led to him batting fifth in the last two games. He's gone 3-for-7 since the drop in the order, so it looks like the change is at least having a short-term effect. The first baseman is batting a meager .195 with a .566 OPS, two homers, nine RBI and eight runs scored over 94 plate appearances. Goldschmidt's track record will give him a lot of leeway to work out of his struggles, but it's possible that the 36-year-old may be starting to feel his age as well. Rotowire.com Today, 10:07 am
  • Expected to be called up
The Cubs are expected to recall Mervis from Triple-A Iowa prior to Tuesday's game against the Astros, Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register reports.

Advice: Hayden Wesneski is also headed back to the majors, per Birch. There's no word yet on what the corresponding moves will be, but Wesneski would have to replace an injured player since he hasn't been down 10 days yet. That could point to an injured list stint for Ian Happ (hamstring). Mervis is slashing .288/.402/.606 with five home runs and a 19:12 K:BB over his first 82 plate appearances with Iowa this season. He could see some action in the designated hitter spot for the Cubs. Rotowire.com Today, 9:18 am

  • Gets injection for oblique
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that Carpenter received a platelet-rich plasma injection for his strained right oblique, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: The Cardinals will have Carpenter rest for the next three days to allow the injection to take effect. If all goes well, Carpenter will resume hitting on the field later this week, and then face a high-velocity pitching machine before he starts getting at-bats in a game setting. Heading into the season, Carpenter didn't look as though he would be in store for much of a role before being placed on the 10-day injured list April 4, but he could have an opportunity to see reps at designated hitter if Nolan Gorman (.610 OPS, 38.1 percent strikeout rate in 84 plate appearances) and Alec Burleson (.549 OPS in 52 plate appearances) fail to show improvement in the weeks to come. • MRI confirms significant injury
Casas (rib) underwent an MRI on Monday that confirmed the expectation that he'll be out for a significant length of time, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: The Red Sox haven't placed a timetable on Casas' return, but it seems likely he'll blow past the 10-day minimum on the injured list. For now, the team plans to get by with a combination of Bobby Dalbec, Pablo Reyes and possibly Rob Refsnyder, who has been working at the position since the start of spring training. Another option is for Boston to wait and see what happens after May 1, when several players could exercise opt-out clauses. Rotowire.com Today, 3:35 am

  • Swats solo shot Monday
Alonso went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Giants.

Advice: Alonso accounted for the Mets' first run with a fifth-inning solo blast to left field. The long ball snapped a seven-game homerless drought for the slugger, and he had gone just 4-for-26 with one RBI during that stretch. Alonso still leads the team -- and is tied for third in the majors -- with seven homers on the campaign, though he's knocked in just 12 runs. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:38 pm
  • Pete Alonso hits seventh homer against Giants
Pete Alonso went 2-for-4 and homered against the Giants on Monday.

Advice: Unfortunately, Alonso couldn’t come through again in the ninth, when the Mets scored once off Camilo Doval but still fell three runs short. Alonso is tied for third in the majors with seven homers. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:16 pm
