• On bench against righty
Brennan is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Brennan will sit for the third time in four games, though Wednesday's contest marks the first occasion during that stretch that he's been on the bench against a right-hander (Grayson Rodriguez). Daniel Schneemann will occupy Brennan's usual spot in right field. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:54 pm

  • Jake Fraley scratched with leg contusion
Jake Fraley was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup because of a lower leg contusion.

Advice: We assume that makes him day-to-day. Levi Jordan has replaced him in the Reds outfield for the game against the Pirates. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:37 am

  • Scratched with leg contusion
The Reds scratched Fraley from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates due to a right lower leg contusion.

Advice: Per Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer, the injury likely stems from Fraley fouling a ball off the leg a few days ago. Levi Jordan was a late addition to the Cincinnati lineup and will start in left field while Fraley gets at least one day off to recover from the injury. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:15 am

  • Battling knee tendinitis
Reds manager David Bell said Wednesday that Candelario is dealing with knee tendinitis that is "progressively not getting better" and "maybe a bit worse," Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Candelario -- who is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Pirates -- was removed from a game last week with the knee issue, and it has continued to nag at him. Bell noted that Candelario is still able to play but added that the infielder will be re-evaluated later Wednesday as the club decides how to best handle the situation. With Noelvi Marte looking likely to return from an 80-game suspension Thursday to provide the club another option at third base, it's possible the Reds will choose to put Candelario on the injured list if they determine his knee would improve with some extended rest. • Receiving rest Wednesday
Candelario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: Candelario will get a routine day off after he had been in the lineup for each of the previous five contests. Spencer Steer and Santiago Espinal will occupy the corner-infield spots for the Reds on Wednesday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:40 am

  • Looks set to join big club Thursday
The Reds announced Wednesday that Marte (suspension) has rejoined the team after completing his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Marte won't be eligible to return from his 80-game suspension until Thursday's series opener in St. Louis, but since he's back in Cincinnati rather than sticking around in Louisville, the Reds are presumably preparing to add him back to the 26-man active roster ahead of their four-game series this weekend. The 22-year-old struggled to regain his timing at the plate during the rehab assignment, slashing .151/.151/.170 with no walks and a 28.3-percent strikeout rate over 12 games. However, after Marte posted an .822 OPS in 123 plate appearances in his first taste of the big leagues in 2023, the Reds look as though they'll allow him to iron out the kinks in the majors. He's seen action at third base, second base and shortstop during his rehab assignment and may have to settle for more of a utility role with the Reds initially until he performs well enough to warrant everyday playing time. • Gleyber Torres continues to deal with groin issue
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after Tuesday’s game that Gleyber Torres’s failure to run hard to first base in the eighth was a product of his groin issue.

Advice: Torres left Thursday and missed Friday’s game with the groin problem before returning Saturday. While Boone let Torres off the hook for his apparent lack of hustle, he did say Torres needed to make a play he missed that gave the Mets two runs in the sixth. Rotoworld Tuesday, 8:15 pm

  • Daulton Varsho remains out Tuesday with back issue
Daulton Varsho (back) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Red Sox.

Advice: Varsho has been held out of Toronto’s lineup for three consecutive games due to back tightness, but appears to be available off the bench for now. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern, but the Blue Jays clearly don’t want to push it and potentially make things worse. He’s day-to-day for now. Rotoworld Tuesday, 1:29 pm

  • On bench again
Varsho (back) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.

Advice: Varsho will be out of the starting nine for the third straight game after tweaking his back Saturday. Kevin Kiermaier will make another start in center field and bat ninth Tuesday. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:25 pm
