Pavin Smith has been the biggest threat to McCarthy's playing time in right field lately, and Randal Grichuk is also in the mix to poach some at-bats versus southpaws.     Advice: Gurriel snapped a 26-game homer drought with his eighth-inning blast. The outfielder has gone 11-for-45 (.244) over his last 12 contests, adding just five RBI and five runs scored in that span. He's at a .236/.284/.385 slash line with six homers, 27 RBI, 24 runs scored and two stolen bases over 44 contests this season.     Iglesias notched a save against the Padres on Monday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work.

    Advice: Atlanta got seven dominant scoreless innings from Chris Sale before Pierce Johnson took over with a scoreless frame in the eighth. Iglesias then completed the shutout with a perfect 13-pitch ninth. The veteran closer hasn't posted his usual big strikeout numbers with just a 12:5 K:BB over 18.1 innings, but he's converted 11 of 13 save chances this season while registering a 2.45 ERA and 1.15 WHIP.     Sale (7-1) earned the win over San Diego in the second game of Monday's doubleheader, allowing five hits and no walks while striking out nine batters over seven scoreless innings.

    Advice: Sale dominated a Padres offense that had put up 18 runs in winning the first three games of the series, racking up 18 swinging strikes and registering his third straight scoreless outing. The left-hander fell one punchout shy of his second double-digit strikeout effort of the campaign and has now fanned at least nine batters in four straight appearances, recording exactly nine strikeouts three times during that span. Sale has accumulated 19 scoreless frames over his past three starts with a 28:1 K:BB during that span, giving Atlanta a dominant hurler to help ease the early-season loss of Spencer Strider (elbow).     Cecconi (1-4) took the loss Monday versus the Dodgers, allowing six runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings.

    Advice: Cecconi was partially sheltered Monday by pitching behind opener Joe Mantiply to avoid the top of the Dodgers' order at the start of the game. That proved to be a wise choice, though it ultimately didn't pay off, as Freddie Freeman's grand slam in the third inning off Cecconi was the decisive hit of the game. This is the third time in four outings Cecconi has given up six runs, and the second time this year he's allowed multiple homers -- he also gave up solo shots to Enrique Hernandez and Will Smith. Cecconi has a 6.12 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB over 32.1 innings across six appearances (five starts). He's projected for a much easier home matchup versus the Marlins his next time out.     Ozuna went 3-for-7 with two solo homers, an additional run, a double and a walk across both games of Monday's doubleheader versus the Padres.

    Advice: Ozuna came into Monday without a homer over his past eight contests, but he snapped that drought with a solo shot in each game of the doubleheader. The slugger simultaneously extended his hitting streak to 13 games, during which he's batting an even .400 with five long balls, three doubles and 11 RBI.     After taking over for opener Joe Mantiply, Slade Cecconi gave up six runs in five innings Monday in a loss to the Dodgers.

    Advice: Mantiply did his part in the first and Cecconi kept it going with a scoreless second, but he went on to five up three homers in the third inning. It was impressive how Cecconi rebounded with three scoreless innings afterwards, but the damage was done. Cecconi is now 1-4 with a 6.12 ERA, and his rotation spot appears to be in jeopardy.     Jake McCarthy went 2-for-4 and hit his second homer against the Dodgers on Monday.

    Advice: McCarthy’s homer was hit 106.6 mph off Eliezer Hernández, edging out his previous season high. He’s off to a pretty encouraging start offensively, hitting .283/.357/.414 in 114 plate appearances. Unfortunately, he hasn’t delivered in the stolen base department, collecting just three in 40 games, and there just isn’t much reason to think he’ll remain a factor once Alek Thomas is healthy.   • Perez blasts ninth home run Monday
    Salvador Perez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run against the Tigers on Monday.



    Advice: The home run was Perez’ ninth of the season. It came in the sixth inning off Tigers reliever Joey Wentz. Perez is now 16-for-41 (.390) against left-handed pitchers this season. He’s hitting an incredible .341 overall. The 34-year-old is a career .269 hitter and has never even hit .300 in a single-season where he’s played at least 100 games.
