• Santiago Espinal delivers pinch-hit homer in win
Santiago Espinal hit a two-run homer as a pinch-hitter to help propel the Reds past the Cubs 5-4 on Friday.

Advice: Espinal hit for Will Benson against lefty Drew Smyly in the seventh and drove the first pitch he saw 385 feet to left-center. It would have been a homer in nine out of the 30 ballparks, says Statcast, Espinal is now batting .202/.261/.303 in 137 plate appearances for the Reds. Rotoworld Today, 2:40 pm

  • Tommy Edman (wrist) takes BP left-handed Friday
Tommy Edman (wrist) was able to take batting practice from the left side of the plate for the first time on Friday.

Advice: Edman is already eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list, but he’s still not close to being ready. The fact that he’s now able to face live pitching from both sides of the plate though is an encouraging sign and perhaps a minor league rehab assignment could be in the cards soon. He’s going to need plenty of at-bats there before he’s ready to join the Cardinals though and there’s no guarantee that he’ll even be ready before the end of June. Rotoworld Today, 1:44 pm

  • Taking BP from left side
Edman (wrist) has been cleared to take batting practice from the left side of the plate, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's the first time the switch-hitter has taken BP from the left side since he experienced complications in his recovery from right wrist surgery. While the step is an important one, Edman does not appear close to beginning a rehab assignment just yet. Rotowire.com Today, 1:34 pm

  • Jeremy Peña getting a night off on Friday
Jeremy Peña is not in the Astros’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Twins.

Advice: It’s nothing more than a routine night off for the 26-year-old shortstop. Mauricio Dubon will start in his place and will bat seventh for the Astros against Pablo Lopez and the Twins on Friday evening in Houston. Rotoworld Today, 1:14 pm

  • Getting first day off
Pena is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Minnesota, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

  • Idle Friday
Baez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Red Sox.

Advice: Baez is 1-for-15 across his last four starts and will give way to Zach McKinstry on Friday. McKinstry will bat eighth and play shortstop with Tanner Houck on the bump for Boston. Rotowire.com Today, 12:57 pm
  • Getting break Friday
Schuemann is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: Schuemann will watch from the bench as Oakland opens up its series against Atlanta. The 26-year-old shortstop will get first breather in 21 games, and he hit .267 with two home runs and seven RBI in that stretch. Rotowire.com Today, 12:46 pm

  • Drawing rare start
Crawford will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Friday's game versus the Phillies.

Advice: Crawford is receiving a rare start as Masyn Winn gets a day off. The veteran shortstop is a woeful 3-for-31 (all singles) at the plate for St. Louis this season. This will be the first time he's played in nearly two weeks. Rotowire.com Today, 10:51 am
  • Masyn Winn not in lineup Friday
Masyn Winn is not in the lineup for the Cardinals’ game against the Phillies on Friday.

Advice: Winn is riding an 18-game hitting streak, but finds himself on the bench to begin Friday’s game. Brandon Crawford will start against Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola. Winn is hitting .308 with two home runs with 49 games. Rotoworld Today, 10:24 am
