• Clubs 19th homer
Alonso went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.

Advice: He got the Mets on the board in the fourth inning by crushing a German Marquez two-seamer deep to left field. Alonso snapped an 11-game homer drought with the blast, and he heads into the All-Star break -- and an appearance in the Home Run Derby -- slashing .240/.319/.454 with 19 homers and 51 RBI in 95 contests. • Takes no-decision Sunday
Paddack allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Sunday.

Advice: Paddack put in another decent effort, but he couldn't match Blake Snell's seven innings of one-hit ball. Paddack has allowed four runs (three earned) over 10 innings across two starts since he returned from a bout of arm fatigue. The right-hander has a 4.99 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 79:21 K:BB over 88.1 innings through 17 starts this season. While his results aren't great, Paddack's spot in the rotation doesn't appear to be in any immediate danger since he's stabilized his pitching following his injured-list stint. • Timeline remains uncertain
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that Marte is without a timeline for a return from the 10-day injured list while his recovery from a bone bruise in his right knee remains "slow still," Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Advice: Nearly three weeks removed from landing on the IL on June 25, Marte is still dealing with pain in his knee and hasn't yet been cleared to resume baseball activities. The Mets had been hoping that Marte would be ready to come off the IL in around four weeks in a best-case scenario, but based on where he currently stands in his recovery, it's apparent that he'll need more time to heal up. On a positive note, Marte has been able to work out in the weight room while he's been sidelined, but a clearer target date for his return from the IL won't emerge until he's able to take part in hitting, running and fielding drills. • Chris Paddack strikes out six against Giants
Chris Paddack allowed two runs — one earned — and struck out six in five innings against the Giants on Sunday.

Advice: Paddack’s velocity wasn’t very good today — his 91.5 mph average on his fastball was down 1.9 mph from his season norm — but he was rather successful anyway. He’s pitched five innings and allowed two runs in both starts since coming off the injured list on Monday. He’s mostly an AL-only option going forward. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:21 pm

  • Returning for Minnesota series
Wheeler (back) played catch in the outfield Sunday and is expected to make his next start for the Phillies on July 22 or 23 versus the Twins in Minnesota, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: A bout with back spasms caused Wheeler to miss out on a start in the Phillies' final game before the All-Star break Sunday versus the Athletics, and it'll also prevent from making his second appearance in the Midsummer Classic on Tuesday. However, the back issue wasn't significant enough to force Wheeler to the injured list, and if he continues to remain free of setbacks in his throwing sessions over the next week, he should be ready to take the hill July 22 or 23 without any restrictions. With a 10-4 record, 2.70 ERA and 0.99 WHIP through 116.2 innings over his 16 outings on the season, Wheeler had been a leading candidate to start for the National League in the All-Star Game, but those duties will now fall to Pirates rookie phenom Paul Skenes. • Xander Bogaerts collects RBI in loss to Braves
Xander Bogaerts went 2-for-4 and drove in a run as the Padres fell to the Braves in Sunday’s first half finale.

Advice: The Padres strung together three singles against Chris Sale in the opening inning, with Bogaerts’ knock plating Donovan Solano with the game’s first run. Bogaerts also led off the eighth inning with an infield single. He is now hitting .231/.274/.323 with four homers, 15 RBI and four stolen bases through his first 49 contests on the season. • Jazz Chisholm Jr. playing second base vs. Reds
Jazz Chisholm Jr. is playing second base and leading off against the Reds on Sunday.

Advice: Chisholm Jr. is going to be get a start at second base for the first time since 2022. The 26-year-old has been the subject of trade rumors as of late, and this is probably not coincidental. It would be somewhat surprising if Chisholm Jr. isn’t playing elsewhere by August. • Mendoza: No timetable for Marte (knee) return
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that recovery on the bone bruise in Starling Marte’s right knee has been “slow.”

Advice: Mendoza noted that Marte has been receiving daily treatment, but isn’t on the precipice of starting baseball activities. The outfielder was expected to miss at least four weeks with the contusion, but there’s a very good chance that Marte doesn’t return to the Mets until sometime in August. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:32 am

  • Getting start at keystone
Chisholm will bat leadoff and start at second base in Sunday's game against Cincinnati.

Advice: Chisholm will be making his first start at second base since 2022. The 26-year-old came into the league as a second baseman before transitioning to center field in 2023, so he has plenty of previous experience at the position. Vidal Brujan, who has been logging semi-regular starts at second base, is trading off with Chisholm and will cover center field Sunday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:32 am
