• Blows save Sunday
Sewald was charged with a blown save in Sunday's extra-innings loss to the Pirates after he allowed a run on two hits in the ninth. He did strike out three.

Advice: Sewald was called upon for the ninth to protect a one-run lead and was unable to do so. Rowdy Tellez kicked things off with a leadoff double, but Sewald was able to rally with back-to-back strikeouts before Joey Bart laced a two-out double to tie the game up and eventually send the game into extras. It was the second time over his last three appearances Sewald's given up a run and he had converted five straight saves before blowing Sunday's opportunity. The 34-year-old owns a 3.76 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 28:4 K:BB in 26.1 innings. He's still got a grip on the closer's role, but the Diamondbacks did bring in A.J. Puk to bolster the back end of the bullpen, and he's someone that could supplant Sewald as the team's closer if Sewald were to keep struggling. Rotowire.com 58 minutes ago

  • Adds two steals in loss
Young went 2-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases and a run scored in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Young has picked up steals in pairs, swiping two bags on three different occasions since the All-Star break. In that span, he's gone 8-for-28 (.286) with four RBI and seven runs scored. The outfielder is up to a .252/.317/.319 slash line with one home run, 26 thefts, 22 RBI, 54 runs scored, 14 doubles and a triple over 95 contests this season. The Nationals have been sellers so far, but the outfield is already clear enough for Young to operate as the everyday center fielder. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:22 pm

  • Paul Sewald suffers blown save on Sunday
Paul Sewald was saddled with a blown save on Sunday afternoon, giving up one run on two hits in his lone inning of work.

Advice: The 34-year-old right-hander came on with a one-run lead to protect in the ninth inning. He was greeted by pinch-hitter Rowdy Tellez who smacked a leadoff double and was replaced by a pinch-runner. Sewald then battled back to strike out Josh Palacios and Ke’Bryan Hayes before allowing an RBI double to pinch-hitter Joey Bart. Sewald then punched out Jared Triolo to end the frame. He’s still locked in as the Diamondbacks’ closer, but with AJ Puk in the mix now, he’s going to need to stay sharp to keep a firm grip on the role. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:08 pm

  • Jacob Young collects two hits, two stolen bases
Jacob Young had two hits and two steals versus the Cardinals on Sunday.

Advice: Young hopefully is bouncing back here a little at the end of July. He hit .161/.257/.194 in his first 20 games of the month, but he wound up 4-for-12 with a couple of walks in the three games against the Cardinals. He’s now 26-for-31 stealing bases this season. • Absent from lineup Sunday
Smith is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against Houston.

Advice: Smith will get a breather Sunday after going 0-for-8 with five strikeouts over the first two games of the series. Austin Barnes will start behind home plate and bat eighth against Astros right-hander Spencer Arrighetti. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:12 am

  • Fans 10 in losing effort
Anderson (8-9) took the loss against the Athletics on Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over seven innings while striking out 10.

Advice: All three runs charged to Anderson came across in the first inning, when he allowed two of the first three batters to reach before surrendering a three-run homer to Shea Langeliers. The lefty would then allow just three singles and a walk over six scoreless frames to close out his night, but he still ended up taking his ninth loss, as the Angels' offense produced just one run in the contest. Anderson induced 17 whiffs in the loss, racking up 10 strikeouts for the second time in his last four starts. He's also gone at least six innings in three of his last four outings and currently holds a 2.70 ERA in July to go along with a robust 32:2 K:BB. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:39 am

  • Tyler Anderson posts 10 strikeouts in loss to A’s
Tyler Anderson recorded 10 strikeouts and allowed three runs over seven innings on Saturday in a loss to the Athletics.

Advice: It’s pretty remarkable that Anderson wound up being saddled with a loss, despite authoring one of his strongest performances of the season, cobbling together his second double-digit strikeout effort of the year. He served up a costly three-run homer to Athletics slugger Shea Langeliers in the opening frame, but proceeded to shut out Oakland’s lineup the rest of the way through seven impressive frames. He generated 17 swinging strikes, including 10 on his changeup alone -- which he threw nearly half of the time in this outing -- and finished with a solid 33 percent CSW. The 34-year-old southpaw will bring a sparkling 2.96 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 99/49 K/BB ratio across 130 2/3 innings (21 starts) into a home outing on Friday against the Mets, assuming he isn’t moved at the impending trade deadline. • Picks up fourth win
Hader (4-5) didn't allow a baserunner across a scoreless ninth inning to earn the win Saturday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Hader entered the game in the ninth inning with the score tied at 6-6. He retired the side on only nine pitches to turn in his sixth consecutive scoreless appearance. This was also Hader's first win since May 21. Rotowire.com Saturday, 11:11 pm

  • Takes loss Saturday
Gibson (7-4) allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while failing to record a strikeout over five innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Nationals.

Advice: Gibson has posted a 17:9 K:BB over 20.2 innings across his last four starts, allowing 10 runs in that span. That's just a little worse than his 3.97 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 102:46 K:BB for the year, marks he's achieved in 113.1 innings across 20 starts. The veteran right-hander is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Cubs. Rotowire.com Saturday, 11:08 pm
