• Taking seat against southpaw
Gorman is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Pittsburgh.

Advice: Left-hander Martin Perez is drawing the start on the mound for the Pirates, so the lefty-hitting Gorman will begin this one on the bench. Jose Fermin will occupy second base for the Cardinals. Rotowire.com Today, 6:58 am

  • Sitting against left-hander
Garcia is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.

Advice: Garcia slugged a pair of home runs in Wednesday's win over the Mets but nonetheless finds himself on the bench a day later with southpaw Jose Quintana on the hill. Ildemaro Vargas will be at second base for the Nationals. Rotowire.com Today, 6:12 am

  • Smacks solo homer
Schuemann went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's win over the Angels.

Advice: Schuemann jumped on a hanging slider from Davis Daniel in the bottom of the fifth and sent it into the stands in left field for his fourth home run of the campaign. The shortstop has now hit safely in four of his last five games while also driving in at least one run in three of those outings. On the downside, Schuemann has also struck out twice in five of his last eight contests. Rotowire.com Today, 6:08 am

  • Homers twice Wednesday
Garcia went 2-for-3 with two home runs, a walk, three total runs and four RBI in Wednesday's 7-5 win against the Mets.

Advice: Garcia hit a three-run shot in the sixth inning and added a solo blast in the eighth. It was the second multi-homer game of the infielder's career, and the four RBI tied a season-high mark. Garcia has already matched the career-high total of nine long balls he accumulated last year, and he's 10 shy of his career-best mark of 50 RBI, which he also reached last season. • Logs second steal
Cronenworth went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, one stolen base and one run scored in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Rangers.

Advice: Cronenworth notched his first multi-hit effort since June 21 and his first steal since May 6 with a strong performance Wednesday. The infielder hit .250 with eight extra-base hits and 15 RBI over 27 contests in June. For the year, he's at a .260/.325/.437 slash line, 12 home runs, two steals, 53 RBI and 45 runs scored across 85 games. He's played fairly well, but he may slip out of an everyday role once Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) returns from the injured list later in July. Bogaerts had played primarily at second base prior to his injury, though Cronenworth or Luis Arraez could ultimately share first base and designated hitter to keep both of their bats in the lineup. • Swipes bag Wednesday
Merrifield went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one stolen base in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Merrifield has two steals over his last six contests, but he's gone just 4-for-23 at the plate over his last 11 games. The infielder has recorded 20-plus steals five times in his first eight major-league campaigns, but his smaller role and lackluster ability to get on base in 2024 has put a damper on his speed contributions. He's slashing .190/.277/.282 with eight steals, three home runs, 10 RBI and 19 runs scored over 160 plate appearances this year. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:37 pm

  • Luis Rengifo exits game with hand injury Wednesday
Luis Rengifo was removed from Wednesday night’s battle against the Athletics in the ninth inning due to an apparent hand injury.

Advice: Rengifo appeared to injure his hand while swinging the bat on a foul ball in the ninth inning. Whatever the issue is, it was substantial enough to pull him from the game in the middle of an at-bat. The Angels should have an update on Rengifo’s status prior to Thursday’s series finale. • Max Scheumann slugs solo homer Wednesday
Max Schuemann went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk against the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: Schuemann gave the A’s a three-run lead with a solo homer off Davis Daniel in the fifth inning, his only hit of the game. He later drew a walk. The 27-year-old shortstop is slashing .230/.321/.333 with four homers, 27 runs scored, and six steals across 214 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:03 pm

  • Exits with injury
Rengifo was removed from Wednesday's game versus Oakland due to an apparent injury, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Rengifo's hand/wrist seemed to be bothering him after he fouled off a pitch in the ninth inning, and he was immediately replaced at the plate following the incident. The specifics of his injury remain unknown, but the Angels will presumably take him in for imaging and should offer more information ahead of Thursday's game. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:58 pm
