• Recalled from Triple-A
The Marlins recalled Edwards from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Edwards is taking the roster spot vacated by Tim Anderson, who has been designated for assignment. The switch-hitting Edwards could also get a shot at shortstop in Anderson's place, although he will have to contend with Vidal Brujan there for playing time. Edwards is a potential stolen-base contributor in fantasy should he receive regular reps, although it's a question as to whether he'll ultimately hit enough to be able to take advantage of that speed. • Struggles continue Monday
Harvey (2-4) took the loss Monday against the Mets, surrendering five runs (four earned) on three hits over two-thirds of an inning as the Nationals fell 9-7 in 10 innings.

Advice: The final frame was a disaster for Harvey and the Nats -- after the right-hander hit Harrison Bader with a pitch, J.D. Martinez crushed a splitter over the heart of the plate for a three-run shot before extra-base hits by Tyrone Taylor and Francisco Alvarez chased Harvey from the game. The normally reliable set-up man has been tagged for eight earned runs in his last four appearances, and his ERA has more than doubled over the last month, going from 2.08 after an appearance June 2 to 4.24 following Monday's outing. • Report: Anderson to be designated for assignment
Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports that the Marlins intend to designate Tim Anderson for assignment.

Advice: Xavier Edwards will be brought up to take Anderson’s place on the roster. The 31-year-old was brought in by Miami in hopes that he could find the hit tool that made him one of the better infielders in baseball not long ago. He did not as seen in a .214 average, .463 OPS and 68 strikeouts in 234 at-bats. The Marlins will look to trade Anderson or see him potentially claimed off the waiver wire, but it seems unlikely he would report to Triple-A if neither of those things happen. It seems that Anderson’s days of being a fantasy helper could be over. Rotoworld Today, 8:39 am

  • On base three times in loss
Abrams went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored in Monday's extra-inning loss to the Mets.

Advice: The streaky leadoff hitter has drawn five free passes over the last three games, and over his last 20 contests Abrams is slashing a blistering .408/.512/.690 with three homers, five steals, 15 RBI and 18 runs. The peaks have outweighed the valleys so far in 2024 for the 23-year-old shortstop -- Abrams' .860 OPS is nearly a 150-point improvement on his .712 mark from last season. • Designated for assignment
The Marlins designated Anderson for assignment Tuesday, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.

Advice: Miami giving Anderson a modest one-year, $5 million contract in hopes that he could have a bounce-back season seemed like a no-brainer. The rebound didn't come, as Anderson slashed a hideous .214/.237/.226 with no home runs and a 68:7 K:BB over 65 games. He will clear waivers and eventually be released, at which point another club could take a chance on him at the prorated veteran minimum salary. It's no given that Anderson will receive that opportunity, however, considering his .544 OPS since the start of the 2023 campaign. Vidal Brujan could get a shot at shortstop for the Marlins with Anderson out of the picture, with Xavier Edwards also potentially in the mix. Rotowire.com Today, 8:38 am

  • Kerry Carpenter (back) making slow progress
Tigers manager AJ Hinch told reporters that Kerry Carpenter (back) continues to make progress and participate in baseball activities.

Advice: Hinch also noted that the progress is still slow for Carpenter as he works his way back from the lumbar injury that has sidelined the 26-year-old since the end of May. The outfielder will surely need a rehab assignment after missing over a month, but it’s feasible that Carpenter could help fantasy rosters and Detroit after the All-Star break. • Three hits in Monday's loss
Ruiz went 3-for-5 with an RBI in Monday's extra-inning loss to the Mets.

Advice: It was the backstop's first three-hit performance since March 30, but his third multi-hit effort in his last five starts. Ruiz is showing signs of life at the plate, and over his last 11 games he's batting .289 (11-for-38) with three doubles. Rotowire.com Today, 8:32 am
  • Casey Mize (hamstring) could head to injured list
Tigers manager AJ Hinch stated in an interview with MLB Network Radio that Casey Mize (hamstring) may need a trip to the injured list.

Advice: The hope was that Mize’s issue was just a cramp in his hamstring, but it turns out it’s at least a little more severe than that. The right-hander has the All-Star break coming up relatively soon, and it’s possible the Tigers could keep the 27-year-old out of action until after that break. Even if he does avoid a trip to the injured list, don’t be surprised if Mize isn’t able to make his next scheduled start over the weekend. Rotoworld Today, 8:28 am

  • Likely headed to injured list
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said in an interview Tuesday that Mize (hamstring) is a likely candidate to be placed on the 15-day injured list, Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio reports.

Advice: Mize had to depart Sunday's start against the Angels with a left hamstring issue. While the initial hope was that he was merely dealing with a cramp, Hinch said Tuesday that it's more serious than that. Mize would be held out at least through the All-Star break if he is indeed placed on the IL. Matt Manning and Keider Montero are candidates to take Mize's spot in the Tigers' rotation.
